You can never have enough solid CB's and Cockrell can be retianed for less than 2 million a season... I think
Golson has never been healthy or played. You can't count on him!

disagree on 1, agree on 2.
I haven't thought much on what Cockrells number might be, but I can't imagine, the way teams overpay, that it will be less than $2m. If, as someone said, he is RFA, we get to wait a year to find out, I guess?
Cockerel is solid and has good size for a CB, no he's not a shut down guy, but not horrible

You can tender RFA's from round 1-3 if you lose him. Projections are below.
Most teams need a smart 2nd or 3rd type of QB, which is what Cockrell is. Remember, he has to play on an island with a lousy pass rush for the most part.

Senquez Golson's career goal is to supplant Cliff Stoudt as the Steelers record holder for most days being a Steeler without actually playing.
No way would I let Cockrell walk, and thinking a often injured Golson is reliable for anything is a huge stretch. And as was mentioned he is a restricted free agent he will be back.
I lose no sleep on anyone else leaving on D.

we both agree there, a few posts before I put the 2nd round tender hit at 3M which is what it might be for next season as the cap goes up every year. It actually was $2.553 million for 2016.
Ross is capable #2 that will have a full season of experience under his belt. At that price he is a big bargain.
And yes, Golson has to earn his snaps next season, he'll probably be #5 in the depth chart if he ever gets healthy

Yeah...that's what he does, reads press clippings. You have it all figured out. Of the list you provided, only 3 (Smith, Porter & Townsend) were not drafted under Colbert. Kimo and Potsie were FA acquisitions under Donohoe.
Colbert did bring in FA Jeff Hartings and Ryan Clark both solid performers who made pro bowls.
As for picking out talent....these guys were pretty good late finds and some were/are pro bowlers/All Pro; Keisel (7th-2002), Kemoeatu (6th-2005), Colon (4th-2006), Gay (5th-2007), AB (6th-2010), Beachum (7th-2012), Williams (6th-2013), Bryant (4th-2014), James (5th - 2015), Chickillo (6th-2015)
Not to mention some UDFA, like Deebo, W. Parker.

Yeah Colbert has no idea what he is doing. I would like to see a comparison of home grown players from other teams during the same timeframe and the approx draft slot. Not FA, because we know the philosophy in use there.

Steelers drafts improved from Tom D.to Colbert........ if you believe Tombert they both have equal say. I somewhat think that Colbert had the edge under Bill. IF TRUE they need to go back to him having the final say. Because whatever is happening now needs tweaked..........

Does the CBA allow for a two tier deal? It would be awesome to be able to 1) not pay for his fuckup again, and 2) get back that cap space for future use.
I'm guessing that this is easily answered, or more teams would have pursued problem players like Gregory or the stains best WR in 20 years.

Stoudt actually played, eventually. And the 3 years he didn't he was behind Bradshaw. This is actually an insult to Cliffy.
The power struggle that git Donahue fired was between him and Cowher, why would they fire a GM because Cowher wanted more control, then bring in another GM and give the new GM more control? No way, the Coach has had the edge since then, unless the Rooney steps in.

We'll have a ton of space, Steeler rich...we franchise Bell and long term a bonus heavy deal for Brown that will not really even increase his number much if it does at all leaving close to 15-20 M after retaining these 2 before even approaching possible restructures to give more functional cap room.
We have only 1 DE expiring in Mathews who is very replaceable, a non issue type player. I'm not concerned with him returning if he does it will be a vet min type deal with little bonus.
OLB I think you are way off Coach, the probability of JJ "benched" (into equal snaps as the others) being less to return than Harrison is highly unlikely. I'd give him 50/50 depending on how he values himself in an open market vs the Moats type deal we may offer him much to many Steeler fans dismay. Silverback will ride off into the sunset 80-90% sure he is gone, the only way I see him returning is if we come up just short and his body and family give him the go ahead for 1 more ride...highly unlikely scenario. Chicky should be an ERFA and as such will be retained cheaply as we lack depth at OLB 90% likely to return if not higher. Dupree and Moats still under contract, but I could see Moats let go...again a very replaceable player though.

He seems like the guy that will hometown discount to retire a Steeler, and should give a discount to market value as he will be rotational very soon, may have 1 more year as a starter before being bench strength. I would put LT at about 50/50, depending on if he will take a 2-3 year retirement deal having already made his money in this last contract. ST guy Johnson is another who cares take it or leave it guy, if he takes vet min w invite him back to camp to compete-non factor.

Burns still under contract too.
S we have Mitchell entering the final year (or 2?) of a contract that was made to be easy to get out of at the end, while his contract is not expiring he is certainly not earning his pay slot in the D. Hopefully he can build on the last week and solidify his spot as we will have enough holes to fill. Shamarko while listed as a S is merely a ST player, take him or leave him...should be a cheap deal if we retain him 50/50 chance of return. The others are locked in for a bit here.

If this be true they need to bring Bill back and give him some draft say.... because for a while there they were on fire with those first rounders.
Or maybe the Steelers axed Donahue to bring in another GM who could work with Cowher better. And then they continued what was working between the GM and coach before the relationship went to **** between Cowher and Donahue.

Donahue/Cowher relationship went sour when Donahue commented after a playoff loss that the team "looked flat" and not prepared. That really ticked off Cowher, and then the Troy Edwards fiasco, whom Cowher didn't want but was given, started the movement to which Dan Rooney had to make a decision. A wise one too. Nothing against Tom Donahoe, but Cowher wanted players of a certain type. Donahoe never bought into it. Colbert understood the role. Find players that meet Cowher's coaching method.

Walton is not ready to replace Matthews retain him for 2 more years Timmons sad to say but has to go to slow this D needs more speed at LB. Thomas no loss, Cockrell give him 4 years 14 mill resaonable deal, much less and safter then what we gave that guy that could not stay healthy.

Those may be the RFA tenders, but his contract, when he gets one, will (is should say, "is likely to be") be north of all of those.
