Yeah...that's what he does, reads press clippings. You have it all figured out. Of the list you provided, only 3 (Smith, Porter & Townsend) were not drafted under Colbert. Kimo and Potsie were FA acquisitions under Donohoe.
Colbert did bring in FA Jeff Hartings and Ryan Clark both solid performers who made pro bowls.
As for picking out talent....these guys were pretty good late finds and some were/are pro bowlers/All Pro; Keisel (7th-2002), Kemoeatu (6th-2005), Colon (4th-2006), Gay (5th-2007), AB (6th-2010), Beachum (7th-2012), Williams (6th-2013), Bryant (4th-2014), James (5th - 2015), Chickillo (6th-2015)
Not to mention some UDFA, like Deebo, W. Parker.
Then, you have these fellows,
2000 - P. Burress (1st), M. Smith (2nd)
2002 - K. Simmons (1st), A. Randel El (2nd)
2004 - BR (1st), M. Starks (3rd)
2005 - H. Miller (1st), McFadden (2nd)
2006 - S. Holmes (1st)
2007 - L. Timmons (1st), L. Woolley (2nd)
2010 - M. Pouncey (1st), J. Worlids (2nd), E.
Sanders (3rd)
2011 - C. Heyward (1st), M. Gilbert (2nd)
2012 - D. DeCastro (1st)
2013 - L. Bell (2nd), M. Wheaton (3rd)
I left out those that were previously listed, and a couple others that were high picks but didn't pan out long term, but were productive (Mendenhall, Wallace, etc)
Yeah Colbert has no idea what he is doing. I would like to see a comparison of home grown players from other teams during the same timeframe and the approx draft slot. Not FA, because we know the philosophy in use there.
