I think we can do well with either back. Conner made the pro bowl and deserved it.

After three games, played here how I think they rate as running backs. You could say Conner is a better conventional running back, but Samules might fit our passing offense better in many areas. The best solution for the future might be to split the work loads based on situational football giving each man 8-15 touches a game.

I'm not saying one is better than the other at this point in time but here's how I see it in the above categories.

Short yardage runner - Conner. Clear edge
Run Inside in between the tackles- Conner
Run Outside the tackles - Samuels
Counter and draw plays - Samuels
Moves/ elusiveness - Even. Samuels is shiftier in the open field, Conner has a better spin move / stiff arm
Vision - Even
Quickness - Samuels, slight edge
Speed and acceleration - Samuels, slight edge
Pass catching ability - Samuels, slight edge
Ball security - Samuels
Breaking tackles - Conner
Durability - Likely Samuels, however more games are needed for a conclusion
Third down skills - Samuels, slight edge
Pass blocking - Conner
Stamina for a heavy workload during a game - Likely Conner, however more games are needed for a conclusion.

Tally:

Conner - 5
Samuels - 7
Tied - 2

No way is Samuels better in quickness and acceleration. I do think Samuels might have a little better vision. Overall, it’s really up to the OL. If they aren’t making space, I don’t care who the RB is.

I dunno ... Probably a close call there in regards to who has better acceleration. I am happy with both backs. But like Bell, Conner has to find a way to stay on the field. You can't help us from the hot tub.

I think Samuels is slightly quicker with better acceleration but its close. At full speed, Samuels is faster for sure. In terms of moves/ elusiveness ( forget to list that one ) , I'll call that one even. Samuels shiftier in the open field, Conner has a better spin move / stiff arm

I love Conner but his ball security must improve. Either way, I'm extremely happy we did not give Me'Von 14.5 million a season. We've got two backs, just as productive, with more big play ability for a fraction of the cost for several seasons.

I have to see a little more of Samuels. He has the better hands for sure, he fits the new era of RBs who can catch now. He needs to improve in pass pro like most young guys but that can be taught. He’s a great 3rd down back if nothing else.

Doesn't matter when ******** coach brings in Ridley to cough it up in the biggest game of they year.
None of the backs can hold a candle to 26. Sorry, but it's true.
Conner played great but ultimately is injury prone and fumbles at a league leading rate. And fumbles cost games as Ridley showed us yesterday.

There’s not many RBs who can. He’s not worth 15-17 million, sorry. We’ll see how good he is after missing an entire season of football, it might take him half a season to even get back in the groove of the game. He’s one of most talented backs but one of the dumbest players of all time.

I would be shocked if he gets back to the level that he was at. Losing that much time, seems to effect every player i see upon their return.

In the off-season I am hoping they tag and trade him. But bringing him back would be a big fail.

Steelers are 31'st in the league running the ball.
That never happens with Bell. Ever

FAK the LeMEon Bell arguement, he was injured or SUSPENDED way to often to be considered reliable. One full season in 5 years,.......yea, that's it. Conner surpassed your #26 and you have no Idea what Samuels is capable of in a full time job. Rather than enter "CAP" hell our team chose a MUCH better avenue for RB service.

You are right about the constant,..............CMVLT and something needs to happen. Butler will be fired and a new DC will be brought in and I'm hoping he is from outside the organization and is allowed for him to hire his assistant coaches along with ownership relaying to Cool Shades he is hands OFF the "D".

Have a great daY AND MERRY CHRISTMASS !!!!!

The Red zone offense is MUCH better off without Bell. The Steelers are 4th overall in offense out of 32 teams. The Offense is not the problem.

Love Conner, great story, awesome character guy, and an all around Steeler favorite. Myself I prefer the more punishing running style of Samuels. Someone that makes hard hitting safeties wear down in the 4th quarter. Really looking forward to watching him going forward.

As someone already said, RB looks to be covered next season and a game plan featuring their individual strengths should not be difficult for Fitch.

Sorry..but Im not seeing Samuels as a "punishing" runner at all..

He looks like a more shifty type of runner able to pop outside, but still capable of running inside. Conner is definitely the more punishing type of runner.

I was gonna say, Conner is definitely more of a brute force runner then JaySam is. I like both, nice to have two young backs to throw in the mix. Just wish Conner was more durable. Ideally we'd see a 60/40 split between the two next season, keeping Conner fresh for the 2nd halves of games. Samuels will be even better next year, pretty much what you look for in a 3rd down back.
