If there was to be a conspiracy theory to be unraveled, this is another one that needs attention....

NE and LA both receive double threes......LA themselves pick up Suh and Fowler.....how is it possible they qualify the highest comp pick level.....twice?

Who did the Rams/Pats lose. Who did they get. 3rd is pretty damn significant. I feel like especially the Rams pushed chips in during FA last year. Hard to imagine them being on the light end of the FA ledger. Maybe the Pat's got the pick to divert minds from Krafts rub n tug story.

This needs to be clarified. I don’t recall either team with significant loses but especially LA had significant pick ups.
Makes no sense!

Suh was released and they traded for Fowler. I don't believe those figure into the comp picks formula. I have no clue who either team lost in UFA.

If Suh was released and signed after the beginning of the league year it counts. And trades by compensation are taken into account with the formula. Switzer’s trade impacted our calculation, because we swapped 6ths in addition to the 5th rounder.

I do not believe you are correct here.

Lane Zierlein predicted compensatory picks back in May.

Los Angeles Rams

Projected compensatory picks: Two in Round 3; one in Round 7.
Key free-agent losses: WR Sammy Watkins (Chiefs), CB Trumaine Johnson (Jets), DB Cody Davis (Jaguars).
Key free-agent additions: None.
The skinny: While the Rams made some marquee additions this offseason, they did it via trade (Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib) and by signing a player (Ndamukong Suh) who was released by his previous team, so those moves won't factor in the compensatory formula. The Rams lost Watkins and Johnson to big-money contracts, which should net them a couple of third-round compensatory picks. The departure of Davis puts them on track to also gain a seventh-round pick.

I'm sick of this bullshit, get rid of the comp picks. Every single year the Pats and Ravens get premium 3rd rounders, even though they lost nobody of significance. EVERY SINGLE ******* YEAR!!

So does anyone know or remember who the Pats lost last offseason?

Smart teams know how to work the system. They don’t sign guys like L Green or M Burnett.

Had the Steelers passed on players like this, they would get better comp picks.

So explain to me how Bell in his prime is going to get the same pick as a washed up Suh on his last legs

Malcolm Butler was one.

According to this article, they also lost their starting LT, among others.

http://www.espn.com/blog/new-englan...-as-many-notable-free-agent-losses-as-in-2018

Patriots:
Key free-agent losses: OT Nate Solder (Giants), CB Malcolm Butler (Titans), WR Danny Amendola (Dolphins), RB Dion Lewis (Titans), OT Cameron Fleming (Cowboys), CB Johnson Bademosi (Texans).
Key free-agent additions: DE Adrian Clayborn (Falcons), RB Jeremy Hill (Bengals).

There is no scam here. These teams are just good at playing the game.

And how do these players truly cancel out anyone we lost? They did nothing for us.

So, Colbert isn’t as solid you said he was in previous postings. Make up your mind.

We won’t see it because of HIPAA laws, but Green probably secluded his migraine condition during contract negotiations, and he may have had to pay back some of his signing bonus.

Overall Colbert does a good job. If he took my advice on DB’s and passing on L Green, you could say he would be a bit better off.

I did agree with picking up Haden. Drafting Burns and Davis, not so much. And picking Edmunds in round one was a reach. Other safeties picked after him were better as rookies.

I applaud Colbert for being more vocal lately. If Tomlin can talk to the media about problem players, Colbert can. He also made it clear it’s Ben’s team.

PS: I hear his son is real grinder type employed by the Steelers.

Comp picks are based on who you lost vs. who you brought in free agency.

By singing less expensive free agents the team is more likely to get mote comp picks.

Has the Steelers passed on l green and m Burnett we likely get an additional comp pick or a higher comp pick.

There is a complicated formula which I do not fully understand.

Some teams are smart about getting themselves better Comp picks. Others are not.

“If he took your advice”......please.

If he did he wouldn’t have a job for 10 seconds, nor would he have drafted a certain large headed future Hall of Famer.

I would argue that L Green and M Burnett did NOTHING. If we did not sign them, we would have received a higher comp pick or more comp picks.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a proprietary formula, developed by the NFL Management Council, which considers a player’s salary, playing time and postseason honors.
The value of the compensatory free agents gained or lost by each team is totaled, and a team is awarded picks of equal value to the net loss of compensatory free agents, up to a maximum of four.

Note the words gained. If you sign cheap free agents, and lose players that sign elsewhere for several million or more, you are getting comp picks. Had the Steelers not signed Green or Burnett, they probably would have had a player draft in round 4-5 for a much cheaper rate.

A few things. I was the guy who said trade up to get Ed Reed, and did the same for Earl Thomas. How did their careers work out? What you are referring to was a comment made during Troy's rookie season.
