Comp picks

I wonder what the rules are for a guy who retires then eventually unretires and signs with a team

You're not really "retired" until you sign some papers or something. You can't play anymore after that even if you want to. Has to do with how they set up your pension, health care and benefits.

This is way too early. If we sign any non cut free agent it will cancel out McCain basically.

Not sure how it works but I remember DeBerg coming back after he had retired 4 years prior.

There has been more than one instance of a player retiring and then unretiring later. I think Farve might have been one and a couple of other players as well. The player had to petition the league and clear waivers I believe and it would have been different if the team he retired from still had his rights or something that gave them first claim on his services as a player.

Yes there has. I think Worilds played us. He did not want a long term deal, and got franchise tag money for a year. We could have had a 3rd or 4th round comp pick for Worilds in 2016.

I'll take the 6th round comp pick this year. We have plenty of needs.

Amazing how people think Worilds had this all planned out....from last year.Really?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...poppycock.

Worilds was like:

Thinkin of a master plan
Cuz aint nuthin but sweat inside my hand
So I dig into my pocket, all my money is spent
So I dig deeper but still comin up with lint
So I start my mission- leave my residence
Thinkin how could I get some dead presidents

ROFLMAO

Not sure why everyone thinks it is so far fetched.... hell almost everyone on here thinks Wallace planned to play it easy his last year here. Why could Worilds not do the same thing? 7.5 sacks and not beating a RT all year could indicate a lack of effort. Hell a DE (Heyward) had the same number of sacks and that's in a 3-4. Moats had almost as many sacks in 1/3 the snaps. And he was going against LTs not TEs and RBs.

Or 7.5 sacks could indicate that like he, Lebeau and Butler have said, he was asked to drop into coverage more often, and rush the passer less, last year than the year before.

Some people think if Worilds was offered a larger contract he would of accepted it. So how is it that he played the Steelers? Now it's he took the transition tag last season so he could retire this season. I guess... why not. that is until some other theory comes up.

Truth. We do not dabble in truths around here. Ever. Only personal opinions.

I'm just saying ... could you imagine Butler, the only one on the staff who called Woodley out on his poor off-season conditioning and eating habits, failing to address one of his LBs if he saw the guy giving piss poor effort? And then lying about that LB's role on the team to cover up said piss poor effort? I like a good conspiracy theory myself, but I don't think Butler is a guy who would be able to keep silent.

Still doesn't explain why he plays 2/3 more snaps and has almost the same sack totals. He didn't beat a RT all year.

I just gave you truth. Let's see if you'll dabble in it or give your personal opinion.

Thank you, brother.

I'll give you my opinion. Worilds would rather his "salvation" rather than his "gladiator status" in the NFL. He walked away from a HUGE payday this year.

End of dabbling.

He's just not that good. Also, unless we can look at a breakdown of what he was required to do on those additional snaps, it's hard to say that he would theoretically get more sacks if he weren't executing his master plan to dog it and retire. I mean, was he rushing on each of the additional snaps? Was he in coverage? Rushing on some and coverage on others? What percentage were rushes and what percentage were coverage?

I don't know the answers to those questions and it would take a person with a little more time on their hands (and a touch of OCD) to find out.

Personally, I don't believe he had some master plan to dog it and retire after getting the $9M last year. I do believe that he just wasn't as good as the second half of the 2013 season made him appear to be.

I never questioned the reason he left. I don't care. All I know is that he had 7.5 sacks which ties him with Cam Hayward.... a DL in a 3-4...

I watched every snap of every game. He rushed a ton. He was stoned a ton. I know he rushed more than Moats. Everybody knows that because he played 2/3 more snaps. Again why can people excoriate Wallace and say he mailed it in (after a similar down season to Worilds) but Worilds didn't have any plans? He just woke up after this season and decided to retire. No plan at all... Again I don't know and nobody else does either. I just don't get the double standard.

Why do people say we would have gotten a comp pick of 3rd or 4th round? He was only going to be a contract of $3m, right?

So, sometime before the last few weeks, JW probably decided last year was his last in the nfl. Someone said it was due to religious reasons. Someone who will walk away from millions this year, for religious reasons, wouldn't have the integrity to bust his *** for the millions he is already being paid?

He was half assing it and still got 7.5 sacks? if he was such a ****** draft pick that no one else was going to offer him a contract, it seems like half assing it would have resulted in even fewer sacks.

No....more likely if he went full tilt he would of recorded say....15 sacks. I'm guessing.

I don't see a double standard in my not believing he mailed it in and instead thinking that he sucked last year because ... well, he sucks. He sucked for 1/2 of 2013 before he went on a small sack spree and he sucked prior to 2013. So it's neither a stretch, nor a double standard when I say that I believe he just sucked in 2014. We get to the same place (he was ineffective) but just view the reasons for getting there differently.

Edit: "Sucks" is a little harsh. But, he's no Lloyd, Porter or Harrison and never was. So, to expect that type of production from him, when he's never shown the ability to do so isn't realistic. His best year was 2013 and no one was/is saying he mailed it in then. His total sacks in 2013? Eight (8).

I find it more reasonable to think he is not all that good. As he played more he just played and it showed what they really had in him, an ordinary player. One that could make the occasional good play but not do so consistently through the season like the great players did. I don't think he mailed it in I expect he gave us all he had and this year he did not get hurt and played a full season. After the season ended he may have realized what he was as a player and weighed that against what he was putting into it and decided it was not worth it. We may have seen his ceiling and it was not that high. If I remember correctly he has often said things that had a bit of religion sprinkled in so he likely did not become this way overnight. He is likely now set for a comfortable life provided he does not go crazy with his money and if he wishes to make a big change it is his to make. Good luck.

I still did not want him back as I never thought he was that good at the position. That does not mean I wish him ill or that I dislike him.
