Combine Stuff

Last 5 drafts.
Curtis Brown 6'0
Cortez Allen 6'1
Terrance Frederick 5'10
Sharmako Thomas 5'9
Terry Hawthorne 6'0
Shaq Richardson 6'0
Doran Grant 5'10
Gerod Hollimon 6'0
Senquez Golson 5'8

That's nine DB's in the last 5 years and only two are under 5'10. Yet you claim the Steelers love drafting vertically challenged DB's?

looks like most over 5'10"don't stick?

Look at who's playing or will be projecting to be playing. Golson and Grant are the " future" and both are on the short side. So is Blake and Gay. All four of these corners are 5'10" or shorter. Who cares about later round players that did not pan out?

Thomas according to Tomlin doesn't have it above the neck, and he's short too.

If we draft a corner in the early rounds, it would be nice is he was 6 feet or taller.

In our history our best corners in Woodson, Blount, Taylor, Woodruff were all over 5'10" tall. Most were 6 feet or taller.

The NFL WR's are getting taller. If your best corners are shorter, you are at a disadvantage.

Colbert all but said the Steelers don't care about length when it comes to cornerbacks. They want a guy who is capable of covering Antonio Brown (no one, right?), so they apparently focus on speed and quickness.

Colbert should care about the 30th ranked pass defense in NFL which to be blunt is worse than the ranking because the Steelers played seven backup QB's during the season.

I would not put a lot of stock in what he says because he's very careful not to offend anyone or tip his hand. If Colbert said I'd like taller Corners, its a slight at who his best corners are.

There is more than 1 way to skin a cat; I don't think you can conclude that all WRs are getting taller so all CBs should be taller. One of the best CBs of all time is Darrell Green. And he would still be great playing today. If you can't cut on a dime and do it quickly, I don't care if you're 6-6, you will still suck.

WR's are getting taller and bigger in general. Modern NFL routes are better at using taller WR's on comebacks routes, in the red zone on fade patterns, on jump balls, and the side line. Height and length are assets, and when matched vs smaller DB's you have a mismatch.

Yes-- there are always exceptions. Darrell Green had world class speed and coverage skills. He's the only player ever to catch a prime Dickerson from behind! If your 5'9" tall, you better be that quick and fast. The trouble is our guys 5'9-5'10 are neither tall or fast. They are average 4.5-4.45 type of guys. There is a reason why our CB's offer large cushions.

OT Jason Cribbs, a player I felt really looked good at the senior bowl practices is having a top combine. Based on the practices I saw and the combine so far, round 1 grade for me. Look for mock draft websites to move him up on their rankings

Why would Colbert worry about offending guys when the team clearly doesn't care about drafting big cornerbacks? They look for a different set of traits when it comes to the position and its evident with the make of their current defensive backfield.

Grant projected to be playing and our "future"? A 4th round pick that wasn't even active most weeks. Your words were we "love" drafting vertically challenged DB's. Then you turn around and say who cares about later round guys that don't pan out? Make up your mind already. You just like making bold proclamations that suit your own agenda. Most of which have no factual basis whatsoever lol

i want to see a DL other than A'shawn Robinson who when the DL have thier workouts we can look at and look at some that in the base have the strength and size to hold up in our base 3-4 and can play both DE or both interior sides so when we go go 4-2-5 3-3-5 4-3-4 1-5-5 we can keep them in unlike when a team goes to 3-4 wide we have to rush out Mclendon, because he offers little to nothing as a pass rusher.
A few players to look at
Maliek Collins Nebraska 6"2 310 45 tackles, 17 for a loss, 4.5 sacks, and 13 quarterback hurries late rnd 1-early 2 , could trade down if CB not there
Josh Augusta, DT, Missouri 6"4 300 Augusta totaled 23 tackles with 4.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception and two forced fumbles in 2014. He was disruptive at the point of attack. Augusta notched two sacks as a freshman backup in 2013. Augusta has upside with size and speed.
Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi State 6"5 300

You forgot about the ... 2-1-8, 3-6-2, 0-5-6 and my all time favorite. ...the 4-4-4. :)

The thing I'm watching between now and the draft is the QBs. Not because I think the Steelers might take one high, but because it could significantly impact both who is available at 25, and the trade value of the pick.

Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders, DeSean Jackson, O'Dell Beckham and Jarvis Landry all say hello.

true. although if Paxton Lynch is somehow there at 25....

So I'm curious, which guys have the top KEI numbers so far at the combine? Anyone know where there might be break-down of this information?

forgot of the default dime, instead of a a 3-2-6 I think we should use a 4-1-6, where shazier is playing as s/b and only LT is in the middle

Keith Marshall -RB - Georgia

Split time with Gurley as a freshman. Was actually the more herald of the two coming out of high school. Did 4.29 and 4.31 coming off injuries, led backs with 25 reps at 225.

Where is he projected to be drafted?

I'd imagine if the Crackboys dont do a complete fuckup and take Ezekiel Elliott in the first, they'll take Marshall in the 2nd.

though with Matt Forte hitting FA...

Fixed it for you.

Heard an incredible fact about the draft today. The last Big Ten QB drafted in the fist round was Kerry Collins in 1995, 21 years since it happened, wow.
