Combine Stuff

i'd like to see Will Jackson's short shuttle. Sometimes these guys who run a fast 40 don't do well in the shuttle. The 40 is all straight line speed but quickness and agility are more important.

Jonathan Jones ran 4.33 in the 40 but his 4.25 in the shuttle was only 24th best I'm more impressed with DeAndre Elliott who ran 4.55 in the 40 but 3.94 in the shuttle. That shows he's a smoother athlete.

This draft is deep at DB and DL. That's good for the steelers because those are positions of need but it could also bit them if they get cute. What if they just assume those positions are deep so they can get them later and they use a top pick on maybe OL or a TE. That strategy could pay off big if you are able to get the pass rusher and CB that you graded as a first rounder in rounds 2 and 3. That would be like getting 3 first round picks.

It can also backfire if you take that luxury pick first and then there's a run on the positions you wanted and you get shut out and end up reaching or waiting until round 5.

That's what has kept happening with the steelers and CB. It's frustrating because they seem to have no problem drafting a flawed prospect like Jarvis or Ziggy in round 1 but when it comes to DB, they seem to have such high standards, as if they won't even consider a DB who isn't future hall of famer.

the link I posted has a video of Jackson running through several of the drills

well, I posted some stuff in here about the kid....

he is aggressive in run support, but not a great tackler..needs to wrap up better.

earlier in this thread someone made a comment about him getting beat in the Peach Bowl, but since the pass was under thrown he was able to get back and make a play on the ball. I believe that play was a case of him keeping his eyes in the backfield too long trying to support the run (and the defense did shut down Dalvin Cook) and the guy got past him. His speed though did enable him to get back in the play.

He was a big contributor in a defense that was excellent in taking the ball away ( they were +20 in turnover margin)

I am a big short shuttle and ten yard split guy for corners as they change direction a lot and often run in a straight line. Rod Woodson ran a 4.29 40 and under 4 seconds in the 20-yard shuffle. Amazing since they did not train for the combine in his day!

I really like Jackson and Apple. Apple needs some work and could be overrated as a player right now due to the talent he was playing with. Jackson looks amazing, but you have to wonder about his level of competition faced.

My best guess is Jackson goes in the mid teens. Apple could be there for us. I'd love Jackson in round one. I'll check his film later. If its that good, I would even send a 3rd pick to obtain him earlier in round one. I was for doing this with Peters.

DB-wise...I still want to see what Alexander does for his Pro Day---still love his confidence, but WJ3 looks good too, IMO...
