College Game Day

Congrats to the Nittany Lions on last night's win, they put on a helluva perfomance in vanquishing my Buckeyes, particularly the d-line late in the game

Was at a concert last night and as I was leaving, there were some people watching TV at the in-house bar. I couldn't figure out WHY they were watching TV while a concert was going on (I left only because it was the last song). Turns out they were watching the OSU game and cheering for PSU.

Oh and WAR DAMN EAGLE. 56-3. That is all.

Key to the game. PSU MLB Jason Cabinda wore Jack Ham's old neck roll for the game. It was some old school magic.

Penn State has lots of talent. The problem is that they are almost all freshmen and sophomores. Ohio State is in the same boat. The difference is OSU has way more depth so the cracks had not shown until the last 2 games.

Word is PSU had over 100 recruits in attendance. This could be a program changing win that could kick their recruiting to the next level. There are a few top PA kids who already committed to Notre Dame. Maybe a few of them can be flipped.

The key to this game was PSU got back 2 of their starting LBs, pretty much the only 2 players on their defense with any experience and the difference was huge. Ohio State probably gameplanned to exploit some things against the LBs that they saw on film and with their starters back, those things weren't there.

I really hope Ohio State knocks off Michigan and the Big Ten gets shut out of the playoffs. I will laugh so hard. The Big Ten only cares about OSU and Michigan and their precious rivalry being the last game of the year. They split up the divisions just to facilitate that game. It is beyond stupid that they play that game in the last week where the loser has no time to make up ground again in the polls.

After what I seen last night I think its very unlikely the OSU knocks off UM.

That UM DL will kill Barrett if the OSU OL plays like that against them.

I'm so pissed that penn state won

Holy crap was Houston overrated or what?

I never bought Houston. It was an early cinderella type of story. The better cinderella stories are at the end of the year, with a team that's undefeated, but really didn't beat anyone that's ranked in the top 10 by December.

OSU has a QB problem. In a close game where they need yards and point through the air on days where the ground game isn't working, J.T. Barrett is just average.

The part of the game I saw looked like OSU had a blocking problem.

Penn State ranked in the top 25 for the first time since 2011. They currently sit at #24.

Looking at today's rankings, this loss did not hurt OSU that badly. They only fell to 8 in the coach's polls which is the poll that is factored into the playoff. If OSU beats Michigan, they are in the playoffs. I can't see any way around that.

Penn State may run the table the rest of the year. They are likely to be favored in each game.

If PSU finishes 10-2 or even if they drop one and finish 9-3 they will likely be pretty highly ranked, probably in the 12-18 range, so it won't be seen as a terrible loss for Ohio State.

Ohio State does have a shot against Michigan. Michigan has not been challenged yet by a running QB. They played PSU early in the season when the offense was still being installed so they didn't really see much.

That game is weeks away and OSU may improve quite a bit. A loss like the one vs PSU might be a positive because now they know they will lose if they don't pay attention to the little things.

I'm not sold on the Michigan QB. It's all VERY easy for him. He has not been pressured at all. We saw how Barrett reacted to being pressured for the first time and he's a runner. Michigan's QB is a pocket passer. He may throw some INTs.

CBS Sports seems to think Ohio State will beat Michigan as they have Ohio State in the playoff in their most recent bowl projections.

How is the coaches poll factored into the playoff? The playoff has their own personal committee for selecting the rankings.

I was quite pleasantly surprised to see the Penn State score. This is the first upset by (not of) a Penn State team in over a decade. Defense played very well in the first half and when they got Sickels back in the second half - what do you do to get suspended for half a game? - it made it that much better. Special teams didn't hold up their end of the bargain until the 4th quarter with a blocked field goal and a muffed punt but put the game away in fourth. I think Penn State played a top notch game. I personally think OSU was exposed. They are good but they are not championship material and I don't think they'll be in the final four.

Penn State took the Buckeyes into the showers.

Makes sense that Ohio State didn't drop much after a loss on the road, in conference. If the win the rest of their games, they'll be in the playoff.

Yeah, I was actually pretty surprise Ohio State only fell to 6th. As a Buckeyes fan, I'm pleased because we still pretty much control our own destiny. If we were to win out, including Michigan (not all that likely at this point), we'd probably be in the playoffs.

With that said, I'm not sure we deserve it.

The coaches poll is factored into some of the computer rankings which is one of the factors the committee supposedly looks at. Within the next few weeks, the committe will release their own official rankings.

among a LOT of others... but the number of coaches on that committee kind of balances that out/off... I don't think they put a whole lot of stock into the rankings from the computers/coaches/media. I really don't. A couple years ago, FSU was #1 in the country in both polls, but came into the playoff the #4 seed...

But what we are talking about here is Ohio State getting in as a 1 loss team. It looks like Bama and Washington will go undefeated. There's a good chance Clemson will as well. That likely would leav Ohio State vs Louisville for the last spot both with 1 loss. This is where these polls will be used to justify the last selection.

If washington or clemson loses a game, i think you could potentially see both Michigan and Ohio State in the playoff. How? If Ohio State beats #2 Michigan in a close game, OSU will be in and i can easily see Michigan being picked over Louisville, or a 1 loss Clemson or Washington.

Ohio state will end up with an impressive strength of schedule with an out of conference win vs Oklahoma to go with wins over ranked Wisconsin and Michigan.

Still too many things that have to happen, but i'm just pointing out that The polls and computer rankings and SOS will likely determine wh9ch 1 loss team gets the 4th playoff spot.

...and I would argue that the polls & computer rankings don't determine it... Strength of Schedule, however, does weigh HEAVY in that decision. I firmly believe that Ohio State will be in the playoff if they continue to win and run the table...

...I wouldn't count on Clemson, Alabama and/or Washington running the table. Yes, I'm aware of how good Alabama has looked, but they've still got to travel to LSU (now with a healthy Fournette and decent coaching)...we'll see. Clemson really hasn't looked very impressive this year (but neither has FSU)...I could see an upset there.

Just keep in mind that we've not had two teams finish undefeated in a very long time...not likely to happen this year either.
