College Football Weekend

I really have a hard time understanding what makes Jabrill Peppers a Heisman contender. Is he an elite athlete? Sure. Is he a great defender? No doubt. But Heisman? Come on, no justification

I think it's a few things. The biggest one being that there really aren't any standout contenders this year. Jackson at Louisville will probably win because , who else? Jackson's stinker vs Houston the other day would have lost him the Heisman most years, but this year you just think, who else?

The other reasons why Peppers, is because Michigan promoted him, the media loves Harbaugh, and the similarities between Peppers and Charles Woodosn, the only defensive player to win. They try to use Peppers on offense but he's just OK. Peppers has nowhere near the big plays on offense or defense that Woodson had.

Having said that, i'd sure take Peppers on the Steelers. We could ditch Mike Mitchell and Peppers would be a great pairing with Davis at S. Peppers would be great at doing all the Polamalu in the box stuff as a hybrid LB/S. Because of that Peppers will go very high in the draft.

******* UT loses again...so Strong is likely out and there will be a big push by their boosters to get Tom Herman out of UH....**** **** **** **** **** **** ****

Not just a loss, but a loss to a horrible Kansas team.

Nice for Pitt to have a comfortable win and for James Conner to set the ACC touchdown record.

Seeing reports on Twitter that Charlie Strong has been fired. Nothing official yet.

Strong is a good coach but Texas is more than a coaching job. You have to deal with those boosters who have no patience. I hate seeing coaches fired with just 3 seasons but it's hard to defend Strong. They looked like they might finally be turning the corner with wins vs Baylor and Texas Tech. Then they lost to WVU but it was close so it wasn't bad. They were 5-5 and if they won the last 2 they could save the season at 7-5 and get a bowl. Then with 1 more good recruiting season, they could possibly get over the hump in 2017.

Losing to Kansas is tough to defend. Strong needs a place where he will not have so much pressure to win immediately. Purdue should give him a call.

I'm not a fan of either KU or Texas, but that was a helluva game. How in the hell can you justify THAT loss...wow.

On another note....I'm going to the A&M game on Thanksgiving. Since I'm not an Aggie fan, would it be OK if I wore either an Auburn shirt or a Steelers jersey to the game?

Don't get me wrong I'm picking Alabama vs anyone, but I think they looked beatable early vs A&M and during the LSU game. I just think if they face a good passing team, with an OL that allows them to be spread out defensively they can be beaten.

Who do you see as that team among the top 10?

As an alumnus of Texas A&M (see username) you can borrow some of my Aggie gear :)

it is a free country...wear whatever you like....or just pick up a LSU jersey

HELL NO. Not buying LSU....but I will be cheering for them.

Not even for Fournette? Lol

He's an *******, but I'll be rooting for LSU just to piss off the BF and his family....lol,

ESPN thinks bidding might reach $8 million per year for Herman....so more for a guy with 2 years experience than for Sabin? Seems a bit much

Billionaire Tillman Fertitta though says money won't be the reason Herman leaves UH....

Money won't be the deciding factor if University of Houston football coach Tom Herman leaves, a top school official said Monday.
Billionaire Tilman Fertitta, chairman of the UH board of regents, said he has no concerns about getting into a bidding war with other schools to keep Herman.
"I do not fear a bidding war for Tom," Fertitta said. "We're not going to lose him over money."
Herman, 22-3 in two seasons at UH, is expected to be a top candidate for several jobs, among them LSU and Texas if the Longhorns part ways with Charlie Strong. UT officials said Sunday they plan to evaluate Strong after Friday's final game against TCU.
Offers sure to come

Along with Baylor - and if Oregon and Texas A&M make coaching changes - Herman could have multiple offers from which to choose. Texas is considered the favorite with its deep pockets and is believed to be a "dream job" for Herman.
An ESPN report Saturday said bidding for Herman could begin at $5.5 million. Herman earns $3 million, making him the highest-paid coach among Group of Five schools. UH officials have spent the past month discussing parameters of a new contract for Herman.
"We will do whatever it takes to keep Tom Herman at the University of Houston," Fertitta said. "We're not going to lose Tom Herman because of money. If Tom Herman wants to go to LSU or Texas or Oregon or Baylor or wherever else, we cannot stop him from doing that. But it's not going to be because of money.

"Tom might want to compete for a national championship every single year and he thinks he might have a better opportunity at another school. We think the opportunity is very good here."
In two seasons at UH, Herman is 6-0 against ranked opponents. That includes two wins over top-five teams Oklahoma and Louisville this season.
But after climbing to No. 6 in the national polls, the Cougars lost to Navy and SMU in October, ending any shot at the College Football Playoffs or a New Year's Six bowl.
At a Power Five school, Herman would have considerable resources, a clearer path to the postseason and wiggle room for error that is nonexistent as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
Herman's agent, Trace Armstrong, met with UH officials last week.
"It's common when you are in contract extension talks," Herman said of the visit. "So I can concentrate on winning games."
Fertitta said he is aware of speculation that Herman will be coaching elsewhere next season.
"I absolutely do not think it's a foregone conclusion that we're going to lose our coach," Fertitta said. "Tom Herman loves the University of Houston. He's happy to be coaching at the University of Houston, and I think there are only a few places Tom Herman would even consider."
Along with a bump in salary, UH has also worked with Herman on areas he considers a priority, including construction that began Friday on a $20 million indoor practice facility. Herman has also stressed the need for a football operations building adjacent to TDECU Stadium.
Negotiations ongoing
"When the season's over, we'll sit down with Tom Herman and make adjustments to his contract to pay him what he's worth," Fertitta said. "We'll make other adjustments and other wants and needs that are important to him, and we'll do whatever it takes to keep him as the football coach at the University of Houston."

Nice to see someone with deep pockets finally has an interest in UH Athletics.

why can't Power 5 schools find their own hidden gems and leave UH coaches alone...

Herman gets a bit emotional talking about Fertitta's comments

Unfortunately for you guys he isn't a hidden gem. Probably the hottest assistant coach out there and a guy some of the bigger schools probably wanted to get some seasoning as a HC before hiring. I hope he stays!

Yeah I hope he stays but I expect he will be in Austin next year....which will truly suck since I hate the longhorns

and hidden gem was a bit of a stretch, but after losing Art Briles and Kevin Sumlin to big 12 schools this will really suck.

At this point you hope the program is on enough of an upswing that a new coach can come in and sustain the success.

Briles really turned it around and Sumlin kept it going..we had a poor coach and then Herman was brought in and he took it up a level. They already had the new stadium on the way when he was hired, but have just broken ground on a new indoor practice facility Herman talked them into building and are working on funding for an football operations facility next to the new stadium. I know all coaches claim to love working wherever they currently are employed, but Herman really seems to believe it himself. If you follow the last link I posted, he is really emotional speaking about his feelings on Fertitta's comments and how much he appreciates the support of the Board, the UH President and AD. He WILL NOT have that level of support in Austin. Last year he spoke about wanting to stay and build something at UH, how he didn't want to be just the next coach somewhere else.

If the big 12 hadn't kicked UH in the teeth by not expanding, I would feel a lot more confident he would stay. He would have gotten a $5 million bonus and another raise.

I saw Houston is offering a seven-figure raise. Whatever he decides, the dominoes will start to fall. A lot of talk around Sumlin's future with A&M as well.

I almost just lost it. Couldn't find OSU vs Michigan game and thought Armstrong decided not to carry it. For whatever reason, it's on ESPN2, under the listing Virginia vs Virginia Tech. WTF?

OSU laying a huge egg against Michigan....horrible offensive playcalling and terrible QB play (Barrett).

Michigan is flat out spanking that big ole' behind, but only has a three point lead.
