College Football Week 7

Franklin has to go. There's no way around it now. He looks completely checked out. I got a text after the game and it's a situation of somebody knows a guy who knows a guy...and he says Franklin is out and it will be announced in a few days. We'll see.

Drew Allar is out for the year and his career likely done. I feel horrible for this kid. He plays his heart out and has no help. Last year he had Warren. This year all he has is RB Kaytron Allen and they refuse to play him enough.

It's fitting that Allar had another INT in this game where his WR screwed him. He stopped running, turned toward Drew in the endzone, so Drew throws it as a comeback, then as Drew releases it, he runs to the back pylon and it's an easy INT. It sums up the offense this year.

The defense played better but that's because it was not possible to play worse than they did against UCLA. The defense is just too small up the middle. It's that simple. This is an inexcusable roster building mistake.

The offensive scheme is a joke. They routinely waste 1st down with some nonsense gimmick play. They tried to "feature" Kaytron Allen but that still only meant 16 carries. He's the spark on this offense and they put him on the sideline not because he's tired, but because it's the other guy's turn. What is this Little League?

Matt Canada looks like a genius compared to Kotalniki.

Whatever

Who will they go after as next coach?

Matt Ruhle - Nebraska HC and former Penn State player. NFL HC experience and is doing a good job building back Nebraska.

Lincoln Riley - if USC flames out again, maybe they part ways. Riley's teams are soft, but if they keep Knowles and let him build a defense, then this could work.

Lane Kiffin - maybe Lane figures it's easier to get to the playoffs without having to go through Bama and Georgia

Kenny Dillingham - HC Arizona State. He's young with tons of energy

Brian Hartline - OC and WR coach Ohio State. At least PSU would have some WRs. You could weaken OSU by taking a key coach.
Could they pilfer Indiana’s coach?

Don't know why you think his career will be over, I didn't get to see the game but the replay i saw looked like he broke his ankle, even if there is ligament damage he should recover. unless i missed something.

I don't care at all who wins Georgia vs Auburn, but this looks rigged. Auburn should be up at least 17-3 and probably more.
I'm with you tape i don't care who wins, but I hate it when officials change the game. I switched from the MI game at half time and wished i hadn't. those calls against AU were unreal.

I read that he just signed a big deal. You'd have to pay Franklin to go away, then pay to get Cignetti out of his contract, then pay Cignetti. I can't see that.

That doesn't mean you can't take one of his top assistants, OC Mike Shanahan (no relation). He played at Pitt and was OC for Cignetti at James Madison and now at Indiana.

I have never seen a PSU team fall this far this fast. They had some off years but were at least competitive - Paterno could have done better, and he's dead.

As a Dawg alumnus, I always like to see UGA win, but there is a reason why I’ve been more into the Steelers and Penguins again.

It’s games like these that justify when big schools in big conferences with espn/disney contract tv deals will get questionable calls.

This injury for Drew may be a positive for his NFL prospects. He can heal up, graduate then get away, work with a QB coach and improve. It will also save him taking a beating each week trying to make something happen with nobody open.

UCLA smoked Mich State today. Shows what a difference coaching makes. PSU has to at least fire the OC and let somebody else call plays.

With Allar out, it may force them to make the offense simple for backup Ethan Grunkelmeyer. When I say simple, I mean get rid of all the nonsense gadgets and just let him throw the ball.

Big win for USC, they dominated MIchigan most of the game. It's crazy USC is unranked.

I'm not certain Michigan QB Underwood will be back next year. He was committed to LSU until Dave Portnoy and billionaire Larry Ellison gave Underwood a huge bag of cash. He does not look happy in this Michigan offense. Maybe he'll take another bag of cash (Oregon?) to go elsewhere next year.

This is recruiting traits and not just stars assigned by people who aren't good enough to get jobs coaching or scouting.

LOL at the beat writer losing his mind on how bad the WRs are.

Northwestern's defense seems solid against the pass. they have not given up a 200yrd passer yet. They only gave up 180 to oregon. Still not excusing PSU's offense though especially since NW wasnt the only team they struggled against

So what QBs are rising and falling for yinz? Proving to be an interesting year in regards to the position…

Penn State football has a ton of problems and it starts with Franklin. His two coordinators are pretty bad too. I’m not sure what is going on in happy valley, but there is something clearly wrong.

The team has talent. In spades. But they can’t seem to get anything out of said talent this year. And you’ll never convince me that losing Tony Rojas is the reason the defense is *** all of the sudden. I mean, when you can’t get off the field against Northwestern, ******* Northwestern, you have to evaluate what you’re doing.

There’s a reason Jim Knowles is not at OSU anymore. After winning a national title. Penn State didn’t “steal” the guy, OSU didn’t want him. And if he was so good, why is their defense light years better now that he’s gone?

And the offense? Pfffffffffft. It’s a gimmick. The whole damn thing. It’s a stupid, sophomorish philosophy that does nothing to put playmakers in a position to make plays. Peewee coaches know better. Pure rubbish.

This offseason is going to be brutal for Penn State. You’re going to see a lot of recruits decommit, and quality players transfer out. Heck, you’re already seeing it.

What a disappointment. You could see this coming when they struggled against the first three teams they played. I think you have to find a way to part ways with James Franklin. Take out a loan if you must, but underachieving annually is no way to run your program. I think it’s time for a change. There certainly won’t be a better time.

I can’t put that all on Clifford. Sure he messed up, but Drew never looked at anyone else. Stared Clifford down, and then threw it to the wrong place. That pass shouldn’t have been thrown considering the WR and the coverage, but if you’re gonna throw it, at least throw it to the boundary.

And while we’re on the subject, why is Clifford even playing? I mean, Devonte Ross comes out of the game in favor of this guy. Then the two youngsters, that are probably better than any of the other receivers, don’t even get reps. For Liam Clifford.

Other schools routinely get their star freshmen players into the mix, and in some cases they are the lead dog at a given position. I get that Clifford has been there for like a decade, but ffs, are they really putting their best players on the field? Another example….is Dom Deluca really the second best ILB that Penn State has? Really? Also, Allen and Singleton. They aren’t putting their best players on the field consistently. So when Franklin says a player “isn’t ready” I think you have to question it.

At this point, I think you start getting your youngest guys reps. Ready or not. Everything they do from this point is about next year, because there’s a real chance they don’t win another game. Gotta try and salvage recruiting and minimize transfers. That’s it. Anything else is criminal mismanagement.

Oh, and try recruiting a QB with mobility that can actually run the clown show of an offense instead of another tall white statue.

I realize that this is like complaining that my diamond shoes are too tight, but the only one who can stop Ohio State’s offense is Ryan Day. He can’t get out of his own way trying to will the Buckeyes into being a physical, power running team. Slammed into the middle of the line with delayed handoffs all game while playing the 113th ranked pass D in Illinois.

Did the same thing at Washington.

If he does this again in Ann Arbor, he’ll lose his fifth straight to That Team Up North.
