Other Big Ten programs didn't get to play St. Mary's School for the Blind, either. And yes, obviously, Penn State isn't going to be as good without Parsons and Brown.
Indiana's starting quarterback also transferred to Northwestern...all teams have to adapt to change. The Lions made so many mental mistakes in the first game, it was embarrassing to watch. Franklin was clearly not prepared to coach, either. And last week, why the hell would you go for 2 when you're down by 12? The guy isn't stupid -- what's the rationale there?
I'm not sure what to think of Clifford, either. What I do know is Fields was committed to PSU, and somehow they lost him. Put that dude in Blue and White, and it's a different ballgame.
As far as a possible playoff berth in 2020, you're kidding yourself. First of all, they don't have enough talent, and will probably lose another game. Secondly, it's a shortened season. It is extremely unlikely that there is going to be a spot for a 2-loss team in the playoff, and if somehow it happens, it'll be Georgia or Notre Dame, not Penn State.
Penix was Indiana's real starter. he was injured last year. Mich State lost to Rutgers week 1 and played much better week 2. If PSU had started with just about any team but Indiana or OSU, they likely win week 1. That includes MIchigan who is breaking in a new QB and it showed vs Mich State.
I think Georgia loses this week to Florida and that is loss #2 for them. If they somehow still make it to the SEC Champ vs Bama then that's loss #3. Florida has 1 loss already. They could easily lose another SEC game and then get loss #3 vs Bama.
As i said with ND, this week is a must win. They will liley meet again in the ACC champ. If ND wins this week and then loses a close one in the CHamp game then they will likely get in. But If they lose this week, then lose a second time to Clemson then i can't see them getting pickd for the playoff even if those are their only 2 losses. I mean, are they going to set up a 3rd meeting vs Clemson? I say no way.
I'm not saying it's likely PSU can make it but it is certainly possible. If you look at the standings, there's only a few undefeated teams aside from the non-power 5. We know they screw over the non power 5 teams. Will an undefeated Cincy make it? Maybe, but lose 1 game and they're done.
