The entire nation is still reeling fro the Penn State loss at Indiana ending on a call so bad that draftkings sportsbook refunded bets. Still the nation soldiered on.

A word on rankings and how sill they are. Georgia gets blown out by Bama and just drops 1 spot. Penn State loses on the road on some bonehead plays and a controversial call on the last play in a game they statistically dominated and they drop 10 spots. What if that last 2 point conversion was overturned by replay? Is PSU ranked 7 or 8 now? Makes no sense.

In pregame interviews, it was revaled that James Franklin isn't even living with his family this season. He was surprised by a video call from them during the pregame. Lots of people doing everything they can to make sure the season is played.

A word on the Big 10 COVID regulations. Ridiculous. Their policy is that if a player has a positive test, he must be quarantined for 21 days. Absurd. It is clear that those who wanted Big 10 football cancelled were able to sneak in some rules to try to sabotage the season. They may well get their way after all with a rule like that.

3 Ohio State at 18 Penn State 7:30 ABC

Penn State's #1 RB was out due to an undisclosed medical issue discovered just a few weeks. But backup Noah Cain is more than capable. Until he was injured for the season on the first drive. You find yourself down to RB#3 and that inexperience showed on the play where Indiana let him score even though they were told on the sidelines NOT to score on the play.

Misleading Box scores. In reality, Penn State was more dominant last week that Ohio State. Penn State put up 500 yards offense, held the ball for 40 minutes and shut down a good Indiana offense most of the day.

Ohio State's offense looked good but their OL was not great and their RBs left a lot of yards on the field. Justin Fields was forced to run more than they wanted to keep the offense moving.

OSU had issues on defense. Namely, the Nebraska OL pushed them around and there wasn't much pass rush. OSU did not have a QB hurry last week. There were also WRs open but Taylor Martinez missed them.

How much of week 1 was rust for both teams? There can be a big difference this week for both teams.

No matter how you slice it, if PSU is going to stay close or win, their WRs need to step up big time. They struggled to get open last week. Freshman Parker Washington looks like he may be a player. Somebody else needs to step up or it will be a long day for PSU.

White Out game on Halloween would have been epic. Here's hoping PSU fixed some issues and plays a tough game.

Boston College at ! Clemson 12:00 ABC
Trevor is out with COVID. His backup is just a 5 start national offensive player of the year. Clemson will still roll

Michigan State at 13 Michigan 12:00 FOX
everybody focused on MSU losing to Rutgers but it could be misleading. They had 7 turnovers. Can't put too much stock in week 1 games in this season. MIchigan still probably wins but MSU is likely much better than they showed week 1

Texas at 8 Oklahoma State 4:00 FOX
if Texas loses this game, then coach Tom Herman is on the hot seat. OK State has not been challenged yet. weak opening schedule and last week's game postponed. Texas has been in more battles and they're desperate.

Miss State at 2 Alabama 7:00 ESPN
will the Bama offense be slowed with the loss of Jaylen Waddle. Maybe, but not enough for Miss State to hang in this game.

Will Indiana have anything left for Rutgers after going balls deep in Week 6?

Tape...

Big PSU fan ... have been since the 60's. BUT .... they are gonna get crushed tonight. I can't even bring my self to watch it. Gonna tape it. Franklin must go. The play calling sucks. The guy from Minn. that came in has no imagination. All I saw last week was run, run, pass. The OL sucks again. Clifford is terrible. Just a total cluster....

Hairball lost to Mich St. ..... his days are numbered.

Yep....OSU steamrolling early and now looks like Shaka Toney is hurt. All of the talent that PSU was bringing back outside of Freiermuth is out. Ugh.

Overall a good game for PSU. I saw way more positives. The defense actually played pretty well. They gave up a big run on one of the first plays and that led to the first TD. They are still trying to replace the nation's best LB Micah Parsons who opted out and had to play the first half without their 2nd best LB and leader, Jessie Luketa. Immediately they get blown assignments that give up a big play.

Next you have the defense give up a TD on a short field after the horrible decision to go for a 4th down on their own side of the field. Joey Porter Jr had excellent coverage, it was just a great catch. OSU scored another long TD when Porter was temporarily out with an injury and they attacked his replacement. Most of the rest of the game, the defense was pretty good. The offense was doing nothing so that defense kept going back out there and got worn down a bit. Ohio State is possibly the best offense in the nation. Holding them to 38 is pretty good.

Speaking of Holding. The OSU TE holds on nearly every outside run.

The positives was the offense getting better in the second half. Finally a WR stepped up. That was the first time Dotson has made some plays other than the routine. Those back to back 1 handed grabs were insane. I think the 2 freshman WRs are going to be good players. Penn State wasted too much time on the RPO. It was obvious ohio State was focused on stopping the run. They weren't even affected by the fakes.

It was huge to have success in the second half. Ohio State never went prevent, so nothing was cheap. That confidence will carry forward. Penn State has just played 2 of their toughest games already. They have a shot to run the table the rest of the way.

This team reminds me of the one that won the Big Ten a few years ago with McSorley. They lost their first 2 and then went on a run. That team only had 1 Big Ten loss so they were able to win. This team won't win the Big Ten unless COVID stops Ohio State, but if PSU runs the table, they could be in the mix for that 4th playoff spot.

Franklin reminds me of Tomlin. He is clearly a very good coach. far better than most. But he does make some horrible in game decisions. I have seen Tomlin become a better coach over the years and I think Franklin may be on that same path. One of his strengths is that he is not afraid to make staff changes. I really think they made upgrades at OC, WR, and OL coaches this year and it will pay dividends.

SO the bottom line is you never want to lose but Ohio State is loaded. Fields is possibly the most dangerous player in the nation. Penn State kept fighting and stayed in the game. This may end up being the closes game OSU plays until the playoffs.

Joey Porter Jr is going to be a star.

Let's talk Michigan. Every MIchigan game i see, the announcers talk about their DC Don Brown like he's Vince Lombardi. He's a bully. His whole scheme is rushing the passer and putting his DBs in man coverage with no help a large portion of the time. This gameplan will absolutely crush less talented teams. Teams that are weak on OL or have a shaky QB. In other words, most college teams. But what happens when they face a team with a QB that is tough enough to stand up to a blitz and WRs that can get open vs press? They get torched.

Michigan could run the table. Penn State's WRs are still struggling even though they showed a few signs of life today. Michigan's pressure could be too much. But even if michigan squeaks into the playoff, they will get demolished by OSU, Bama or Clemson. I expect Ohio State will hang 50 on them.

Here's hoping it's a bad week for Harbaughs.

You know I respect your opinions, tape, but you are coming off as a huge Penn State homer here. Not sure what you watched, but this was never a game. Five out of six of OSU's scoring drives were 75+ yards. They had another 72-yard drive that ended with a missed 20-yard field goal. They missed another field goal from 23 yards. PSU was dominated from start to finish. Ohio State had 300+ yards passing and 200+ yards rushing. Penn State had just 44 on the ground.

C'mon, man.

Most delusional fanbase in America.

I'm part of that fan base and an alumnus myself, but I call it like I see it. The final score of that game was not indicative of how badly Penn State was dominated.

...I about fell backwards out of my chair

Do you not read his posts? He is a huge PSU homer, but I think about 90% of what he says is to get a reaction out of the SEC homers on this board. And it works. Every time.

so pissed at bon brown for the soft *** play-calling and josh Gattis conservative passing attack wife just as surprised as winters around the corner bought me a wolverine's sweatshirt the same day JIM get it together u suck in bowl games and vs msu and ohio ST, but ur recruiting well now work these guys ***** off all week, so i dont have to see a **** show next week

this is not a normal season. If there had been spring ball and summer training camp, I would have gone apeshit on losing to Indiana and would have been pissed at a poor performance vs Ohio State. But they didn’t have any preseason and didn’t have the usual cupcake opener that most teams have. The offense was going to feature RB Journey Brown and they lost him, The defense was built on LB Micah Parsons and they lost him opting out.

Add in that they are installing a new offense and a rough start was to be expected. Despite that, they really did dominate Indiana, just made too many huge mistakes and gave it away. As for Ohio State, you have to like how the offense improved in the second half. Maybe it’s starting to click a bit. Ohio State is going to score a bunch of points on just about everybody. They didn’t give up a bunch of big plays. Ohio State just has too many weapons.

Penn State doesn’t even know who their key players are yet on offense aside from TE Freiermuth. The OC is still learning what the guys can do in his playcalling. Basically, it’s a work in progress and I did see some good progress vs Ohio State. Penn State actually outscored OSU 19-17 in the second half. OSU did not let off the gas either. Penn Sate had kept it close enough that OSU didn’t pull starters and kept trying to score until very late.

Indiana returned a lot of starters and the same systems so they were a dangerous opening game. If they played next week, I think PSU wins by 20. Ohio State is just loaded with talent. They’re are replacing quite a few starters themselves but Justin Fields erases most of that inexperience. Also, the WR Olave made some great plays. He caught a TD with Porter all over him and later he caught a long bomb that he got with his finger tips.

I’m still not sure what to think of Clifford at QB. He does have a lot of talent and he’s tough. Herbstreit kept pointing out how nobody was open on most plays in the first half. In the second half, PSU adjusted, guys got open and Clifford made some plays. He’s slow on making the RPO read. When they called more regular passes and he was able to keep his eyes downfield he made quicker reads and seemed more confident.

we shall see but I think they have a great shot to win all the rest and play in the Rose Bowl, if they are even playing it this year.

The main takeaway from me is that Penn State did play with OSU physically. Many of Ohio State’s big plays were on great plays by the WR or on blown assignments by PSU. Many of the issues are fixable going forward. I think they will gain some confidence when they watch the film and see how close they were on so many plays

we have no idea what this year will hold with Covid. There is a very real chance that #4 teams will have 2 losses. Penn State could end up winning 6 in a row finishing 6-2 and if those 2 losses are the controversial call vs Indiana and a 13 point loss to Ohio State who maybe beats everybody els buy 20+. We know that early season losses are easier to overcome. That possibly will give them as good a resume as any.

don’t forget that most are playing conference games only so teams will beat each other. Georgia vs Florida this week is a good example. The loser will have 2 losses and is likely done unless they somehow beat Bama in the SEC champ which I think is unlikely. I think Bama will thump whoever they face in the SEC champ game and that could be a 3rd loss for that team.

I think Big 12 teams will keep beating each other. Who knows about the PAC 12. Will they even be considered after playing just 6 games? Their team would have to be 6-0 to even be considered.

Notre Dame has a must win this week vs Clemson. If they lose this week, I think they’re done unless the can beat Clemson with Trevor in the ACC Champ. I can’t see them getting in the playoff with 2 losses to Clemson.

Yeah, they only need to climb over 20+ teams in both polls in a shortened season, and they'll be golden.

I read some, not all. Usually his assessments of Penn State are insightful and mostly non-biased, but not in this case. Which is why I said something.

Other Big Ten programs didn't get to play St. Mary's School for the Blind, either. And yes, obviously, Penn State isn't going to be as good without Parsons and Brown.

Indiana's starting quarterback also transferred to Northwestern...all teams have to adapt to change. The Lions made so many mental mistakes in the first game, it was embarrassing to watch. Franklin was clearly not prepared to coach, either. And last week, why the hell would you go for 2 when you're down by 12? The guy isn't stupid -- what's the rationale there?

I'm not sure what to think of Clifford, either. What I do know is Fields was committed to PSU, and somehow they lost him. Put that dude in Blue and White, and it's a different ballgame.

As far as a possible playoff berth in 2020, you're kidding yourself. First of all, they don't have enough talent, and will probably lose another game. Secondly, it's a shortened season. It is extremely unlikely that there is going to be a spot for a 2-loss team in the playoff, and if somehow it happens, it'll be Georgia or Notre Dame, not Penn State.

So since Parsons opted out, is he paying for his education this year out of his own pocket?

Clifford sucks .... he lost the Indiana game with all his turnovers.

Are there going to be regular bowl games this year or just the FCS playoffs?
