A few good games this week. As usual we start with the biggest and most important game.

Purdue at 12 Penn State - Noon on ESPN
Purdue has a shot with their veteran QB and one of the most explosive players in football, WR Rondale Moore. Unfortunately, neither will play due to injury so this is a likely blowout.

To me, this season is already a success for Penn State and they could still possibly lose 3 or 4 games. It's a success because they are playing so many freshmen and sophomores. These are kids that are mostly 4 and 5 star players. They are rotating a lot of guys at multiple positions, getting them valuable experience and they have looked good.

PSU had second and 3rd stringers playing half the game vs Maryland and there was almost no dropoff, especially on defense. Linebacker U may be back with Micah Parsons, Ellis Brooks, Brandon Smith, and Jesse Luketa all Soph or Fresh and getting tons of playing time.

If Clifford keeps improving at QB and this OL comes together, PSU could be a beast next year.

14 Iowa at 19 Michigan Noon on Fox
Iowa has looked good but hasn't really played anybody yet. Michigan is struggling and starting to feel the heat from fans. Michigan's offense is not in sync. It feels like when Rich Rod took over a few years ago. Trying to run spread without the right guys. If Michigan loses this game at home, the wheels could start coming off. I have a feeling Mich wins because Iowa is not a tricky team and Mich has more talent. We'll see.

7 Auburn at 10 Florida - 3:30 on CBS
Auburn has some good wins under their belt. Florida has a new QB. This is a bigger game for Florida. The SEC East is a 2 team race between FL and GA. Florida needs this one to keep pace. FL has LSU next week and i don't think they'll win that one, so if they lose to Auburn, they will likely face Georgia with 2 losses already making that game possibly meaningless. Georgia does not play LSU.

25 Michigan State at 4 Ohio State - 7:30 on ABC
I think this will be a beatdown. Ohio State simplified their defense so they have fewer blown coverages. They have a ton of athletes on that defense and MSU can't match them. I'll be surprised if MSU scores more than 10.

Florida is going to get exposed. Shoulda lost to a not-so-good Miami team. Kentucky had chances to beat 'em as well.

Iowa wins a close one.

PSU wins.

OSU wins.

Said it before, and I’ll say it again, Sean Clifford is meh.

Penn State looks like *** since Clifford threw that horrible interception. Free money all over the field, and State can’t take advantage.

James Franklin looks an awful lot like Mike Tomlin right now with his sunglasses and blank stare.

Michigan o play calling beyond soft

You have 4 reciievers over 6”2 it’s time to attack and it seems about time they are it seems Faris has been listening to the commentary and is calling the plays to utilize the big wr”s

I don't understand what Rahne is trying to accomplish. He has no answers now that Purdue has made defensive adjustments. The whole team got comfortable after going up big and seems like they're just mailing it in for the rest of the game

Wolverine alumni must have had a big pep tack with the d 8 sacks now

The Michigan/ Iowa game was a snooze fest. The offenses were horrible and yellow flags all over the field. Seemed like it lasted forever.

I just hate that style of O Penn State runs. It mostly worked with McSorley but even he had his moments. Clifford is either taking it on himself to be the focus running and passing each week or the coaches are. They have good RB's and good WR's and good TE's. McSorley is looking to run it himself way to much. They never get in any rhythm. I still think, now that they are hitting the meat of their conference schedule, that Clifford won't be able to handle it. I would not be surprised to see a good D shut Penn State out. Their D is legit, though. The next 4 weeks will be a huge test for them. If they win 3, I would be ecstatic but I am thinking they will struggle to win 2.

Miami's QB is horrible. He has 6 passes 3 for Ints. 14-0 V.Tech.

Clifford is slow on his reads, and if the first read isn’t there he gets lost. On the options, his reads are even slower. I know the o- line is lacking, but Clifford is very limited as a QB.

Michigan State defense playing disciplined football tonight.

i don't love the style either but that's college football now. Even Bama is now using a lot of spread stuff. Penn State's OL has still not quite recovered from the sanctions. OL is tough to recruit. Lots of busts. They are just now starting to have decent OL play with depth to develop for the future. I'm hoping that as the OL improves, they start to use more power running and less spread.

I still don't get the criticism of Clifford. He only has 5 starts under his belt and he has clearly improved. McSorley comparisons aren't fair because McSorley had Saquon at RB and Chris Godwin, Daeshawn Hamilton, and MIke Gesicki to throw to.

Hamler and Freiermuth are really good but they aren't jump ball guys like Godwin and Gesicki were. How many times did McSorley just throw up jump balls and Godwin and Gesicki came down with them? And how many times did he hand it to Barkley and he juked 8 guys for a long TD?

Clifford isn't there yet but he's trending in the right direction.

I still feel like this season is mostly a training year for 2020. When i look at how many players they are giving significant playing time to, it makes me think that.

I would feel good about beating Iowa next week if it wasn't at Iowa. That's a tough place to play and PSU tends to struggle there. We'll find out more about this team next week. We know the offense can be explosive but can they grind out a win vs a team that tends not to give up many cheap yards?

At some point Penn State is going to have to lose that mentality if it wants to compete with the big boys. Teams like Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and maybe Georgia now don't build for the future, they reload. You figure teams with that many 4 and 5 star recruits (Penn State, Michigan, Texas, etc.) should be competing for conference titles and the playoffs every season

And other teams have QB’s with only five starts that aren’t surrounded by the kind of talent they have at Penn State that do as well or better. I guess we will see how good he is here coming up, starting with Iowa.
