College Football Week 2

It was great having football back last week. Defenses were ahead of offenses. Just like the NFL, colleges have removed hitting from most practices, so it's to be expected to see some rust.

The OSU vs Texas game was important but a snooze. For all the scrutiny on Arch, Ohio State didn't exactly light it up either.

LSU looked good vs Clemson, but to hear some people talk, you'd think they won by 50.

Notre Dame on a Bye. Then they pay Texas A&M next week. They play zero other ranked teams. Even if they lose and start 0-2, it won't matter, they'll sneak into the playoff.

All games Saturday

Florida International at 2 Penn State 12:00 BTN PSU -42.5
Last week Penn State worked on passing to the WRs and they ended up with 2 WRs with 6 receptions or more. No WR had 6 receptions in a game all last season.
The run game was a bit sloppy as PSU played 7 OL, mixing and matching. Last year's starting RT Anthony Donkho is coming back from season ending injury and moving to G. Hopefully the run blocking will look better.

The big news for PSU is it appears they are switching from Nike to Adidas and part of the deal is Adidas will contribute to Penn State's NIL. Drew Allar then signed a person Nike deal a day later. Some fans are freaking out about switching to Adidas. I have no idea why. it's not like Penn State's uniform will change. PSU gear will still be licensed to Nike, Underarmor, etc. I think 47 Brand has some nice stuff. They have some old school farmer looking hats for various schools.

11 Illinois at Duke 12:00 ESPN iLL -2.5
former Penn State DC manny Diaz is HC at Duke so he's familiar with Illinois. Illinois does not play Penn State, Michigan or Oregon. They need quality wins. If they lose this game, it could hurt their playoff chances later.

Iowa at Iowa State 12:00 FOX ISU -3.5
the CyHawk trophy is up for grabs. State got the win week 0 against Kansas State, so they have the advantage of 2 games under their belt. Iowa scored 34 points vs Albany last week. Only Albany, but Iowa has trouble scoring 30 vs anybody the last few years. Iowa is excited about transfer QB Mark Gronowski from San Diego State. He only threw for 44 yards last week, but he's a dual threat and they may have been hiding stuff from Iowa State.

Baylor at 17 SMU 12:00 CW Network SMU -2.5
Baylor played Auburn tough last week but came up short. SMU wants to get back to the playoffs from the ACC which is looking a lot tougher after week 1.

Delaware at Colorado 3:30 FOX CO -24.5
Fox is making this crap their 3:30 game? I guess they want to ride that Deion ratings boost. Does that boost still exist post Travis Hunter? I can't imagine watching a single second of this one, unless Delaware is somehow winning.

Kansas at Missouri 3:30 ESPN2 Miz -6.5
apparently Kansas and Missouri hate each other. That's always a good game element. Each team beat up on a upcake last week as a tune up. Penn State transfer QB Beau Pribula lit it up for Mizz with his arm and legs. I've seen Mizz projeted for a playoff spot by some. They better win this game first.

Oklahoma State at 6 Oregon 3:30 CBS Ore -27.5
UCLA transfer QB Dante Moore looked good last week taking over for Dillon Gabriel. Ok State's starting QB broke his foot last week so they will go with redshirt freshman Zane Flores who played well in relief.

20 Ole Miss at Kentucky 3:30 ABC Mis -8.5
the September loss to Kentucky cost Ole Miss a playoff spot last year and Kiffin spent his offseason whining about it on Twitter. They should be dialed in for this one.

North Carolina at Charlotte 7:00 ESPN+ UNC -13.5
it will be interesting to keep an eye on this to see if UNC really is as bad as they looked vs TCU.

Boston College at Michigan State 7:30 NBC MSU -4.5
This one could be a close game to flip to while watching some bigger names.

Vanderbilt at Virginia Tech 7:30 ACC Network VT -2.5
just like above, could be a good flip to game

12 Arizona State at Miss State 7:30 ESPN2 ASU -6.5
Need more cowbell...This is a QB scout game for Arizona State's Sam Leavitt, a possible 1st round pick.

15 Michigan at 18 Oklahoma 7:30 ABC OU -5.5
Michigan HC Sherrone Moore is suspended for 3 games, but that starts next week. You wouldn't expect him to be suspended vs a ranked opponent would you? That might be like a punishment. Moore played at Oklahoma so he's probably pretty excited that the NCAA is a joke.

Michigan's 5 star QB Bryce Underwood had a good first start vs New Mexico. This will be a big step up in competition. Oklahoma has potential 1st round QB John Mateer, so it will be good to see him against a non Big 12 leaky defense.

UL Monroe at 21 Alabama 7:45 SEC Network AL -34.5
The only reason this game is interesting is to see how Bama responds. They were embarrassed last week. They looked soft. Star WR Ryan Williams is walking around with painted nails and a support stuffed animal. That's not a joke.

There are internet rumors that Bama players had girfriends over and were ordering door dash at 1 AM the night before last week's game. I find that hard to believe. But DeBoer is under pressure. He has a $70 million buyout so I don't see any way they can fire him. Not unless you want him gone so bad that you drain NIL funds. I can't see that happening.

Underwood and MI both might have a tough year this year but man am I excited about this kid for the next couple years. He is about the same size as Ben and is very physical. thru a great block on one of their TDs. not that he should do a lot of that but love to see that kind of attitude... GO BLUE

I’ll be at the Penn State game today. Hoping to see more pop from the running game. Last week was kind of embarrassing considering the opponent. I also thought the defense played really soft early in the game, and if not for Dani Denis-Sutton, the game might have been competitive for a bit.

Regardless, it’s likely to be a blowout where we as fans don’t learn much about what Penn State is going to be on the field. Hope they keep improving, because the BIG schedule is looming, and Oregon is no slouch.
