College Football Week 1

Week 1 is finally here with 5 straight days of games.

Some NFL players are going back to college (for now). The Pac 12 is back, sort of, with 8 teams (all state schools). James Franklin to Va Tech. Indiana is still good. Everybody hates Lane Kiffin. Let's Go!

Saturday
Marshall at 18 Penn State 3:30 FS1 PSU -24.5

A new era at Penn State with new coach Matt Campbell and a renovated stadium (with jacked up ticket prices). Campbell brought many players with him from Iowa State, including veteran QB Rocco Becht who was a 3 year starter at Iowa State in this same offense. The new DC is former Penn State DB D'Anton Lynn who did a good job as DC at USC.

Franklin kept the offense buttoned up and he practiced the team to death. The new offense will be more aggressive and let the QB take shots downfield without some double revers fake.

Penn State got much bigger on the DL. Franklin favored small, quick DTs, which is great for rushing the passer but they had trouble holding up against the run. The new DL will be one of the bigger ones in the nation.

Apparently Feranklin had a huge office. I read that Matt Campbell had his office remodeled to make in smaller, so there'd be more room for other coaches. Meanwhile Franklin had his new Va Tech office expanded.

I just want to see a functional modern offense and not some high school BS.

Thursday

Colorado at Georgia Tech 8:00 ESPN GT -6.5

Back in 1990 they were split national champs. Colorado won the AP Poll and GT won the UPI Coaches Poll. Coach Prime is coming off a Legendary 3-9 season.

Idaho at 21 Utah 9:00 ESPNU Utah -35.5

FRIDAY

Toledo at Michigan State 8:00 FS1 MSU -10

Former Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald takes over at MSU. He has a lot of work to rebuild.

7 Miami at Stanford 9:00 ESPN Mia -24.5
Stanford played in week 0 and got a close win over Hawaii. Miami has new QB Darian Mensah from Duke. They are a national championship favorite again.

Fresno State at 14 USC 9:00 Fox USC -22.5
all eyes will be on the stands for this one. Last week, USC was roasted online for the pathetic attendance of their home opener. Will fans actually show up for this one?

SATURDAY

North Texas at 6 Indiana 12:00 Fox Ind -40.5

Indiana starts the title defense with TCU transfer Josh Hoover. They also got bog time WR Nick Marsh from Michigan State.

East Carolina at 13 Alabama 12:00 ABC Ala -28.5
Bama fans love coach Kalen DeBoer and he'll have a new QB Keelon Russell.

Oregon State at 23 Houston 12:00 ESPN Hou -20.5
The Pac 12 is back baby. Last year is was just Oregon State and Wash State, but now they're up to 8 teams and they're all state schools.

Miami(OH) at Pitt 12:30 CW Network Pitt -16.5

Pitt has a solid returning QB Mason Heintschel. They have a tough second half schedule so they can't lose any of the easier games like this one.

Boise State at 2 Oregon 3:30 CBS Ore -24.5
Is this finally Oregon's year? QB Dante Moore is a Heisman candidate and likely top 5 NFL draft pick next year.

Clemson at 11 LSU 7:30 ABC LSU -10
The debut of Lane Kiffin at LSU. LSU is trying to take multiple NFL players. The SEC is threatening to kick them out of the league if they play those NFL players. I assume everybody except LSU fans were already rooting against them. Lane is just running up the villain score. Hopefully Dabo can pull off the upset.

Western Michigan at 16 Michigan 7:30 NBC Mich -27.5
Michigan welcomes new coach Kyle Whittingham from Utah after their last coach was fired for knocking up an intern and trying to set up threesomes on onlyfans during halftime. Former 5 start QB Bryce Underwood has been a disappointment so far, but maybe he turns it around with a real coach.

SUNDAY

Washington State at 17 Washington 4:00 NBC Wash -23.5

The Apple Cup being played in week 1. Wash is a darkhorse for some in the B10. They return QB Desmond Williams but have to Denzel Boston at WR.

Wisconsin vs 4 Notre Dame at Lambeau Field 7:30 NBC ND -20.5
Notred Dame is a title contender with QB CJ Carr as a Heisman candidate. Last year their season was derailed by 2 early losses. Wisconsin has been down but they're expected to be improved. Once again, ND's schedule is pretty weak, so losing this game would could mean they'd have to run the table the rest of the way.

24 Louisville vs 9 Ole Miss from Nashville 7:30 ABC Miss -6.5

This could be the most entertaining game of the weekend. Vertically challenged QB Trinidad Chamblis is back for Ole Miss as they move on from Lane Kiffin. Lane is a douche but he's a great offensive coach and playcaller.

MONDAY

19 SMU at Florida State 7:30 ESPN SMU -3

Florida State had a solid but not spectacular win vs New Mexico State in Week 0. It could be a big advantage to have a game under their belt. Florida State is a program under pressure. Coach Mike Norvell was only retained because it was too expensive to fire him. This would be a huge win for the FSU program.
