I hear there's a game tonight.
Bama has a better defense than they've had in years. They actually have guys who can run as opposed to their traditional run stuffers, so they are better equipped to face a good dual threat QB.
But Watson is really really good. The best Bama has seen since Newton. Bama has not been tested this year by a dynamic offense. Michigan State had a good pocket passer but no threatening receivers. When Bama played Ohio State last year, you saw the difference that a running QB and some speed at WR makes.
Clemson also has a really good RB who is overlooked.
Clemson has some great athletes on defense and they shut down a really good Oklahoma offense. Bama's QB has struggled this year when he has had to do anything more than the basics.
Tough game to call because I don't think either team has faced a team like the other. Bama has not faced an offense anywhere as good or dynamic as Clemson. Clemson has not faced as powerful a run game as Bama.
Perine is good on Oklahoma but they are not a power run team.
Michigan State has some athletic DL and the Bama OL struggled to block them and Henry was mostly stuffed. It was the weak MSU secondary that was exploited. Clemson has much better athletes in their secondary.
Bama was one of the worst in the nation at converting 3rd and 6 or longer. That's because their QB struggles to read the field and if his first read isn't there, he's not very good.
I am not a fan of Derrick Henry. I think he has cement feet and doesn't make anybody miss. His yards per carry was lower than Penn State RB Saquan Barkley and PSU had one of the worst OL you will ever see. He a pile driver who wears you down.
If Clemson can't stop Henry then Bama wins.
I think Clemson will slow him enough and score enough to make Bama pass more that they like and that will lead to some turnovers. Watson will be the difference with his feet.
My guess
Clemson 28
Bama 20
