College football 12/5/15

Iowa showed that they were for real, but Michigan State's game-winning drive was legendary with 22 plays and over nine minutes of time.

And after watching the ACC officials all season, I'm not sure I can ever complain about NFL refs again. They were dreadful in the clutch once again tonight.

Got to hand it to Iowa. They would destroy Florida. The Big10 is so much better than the SEC.

It appears the teams are set, The rankings were
1 clemson
2 alabama
3 oklahoma
4 iowa
5 michigan state

You would think that the final rankngs would be
1 clemson
2 alabama
3 oklahoma
4 Mich state

But my guess is they will change up the rankings to set up particular matchups, namely Alabama to play Michigan State. To do that, you would either have to put Alabama #1 which is absurd because Clemson is unbeaten and has much better wins than Alabama. Or you jump Mich State over Oklahoma.

That seems strange because if you thought Mich State was that good then they should have been 3 or 4 last week instead of 5.

I still think Ohio State is the best team this year.

Stanford set to extend their lead...

still only care about UH though.....

CBS is projecting Houston vs Ohio State in the Fiesta. Tough matchup but maybe the former OSU coach has some inside info on how to attack.

Had QB Ward been able to play at full strength at Conn., the Cougars would be 13-0.

Herman is a terrific coach. Another year or two and he'll make them a major player in college ball.

It's only taken 40 years!

Western Kentucky won their first FBS conference championship yesterday over Brett Favre's alma mater.

The MSU/Iowa game was intense. I guess Iowa was for real. I kinda hated to see them lose. MSU had a ridiculously lucky interception in the end zone. Connor Cook seems hurt.

Refs really ****** over NC on that onside kick they recovered, calling an offsides that the replay clearly shows was not offsides. it wasn't reviewable. they had to rekick and of course Clemson recovered. seems the fix was in so the playoffs didn't get all screwed up with a Clemson loss

Ah, man! Nobody took the bait? I thought for sure at least a couple people would have freaked out.

NC had ever chance with all the big time penalties, even top defensive player kicked out for Clemson, yet Clemson did its job. Three long drives for TD'S, overcome NC short fields drives and won, they deserve number 1 spot. Clemson beat three top ten teams along the way. I can't see how the committee did not go home after all the games since it is all laid out top three winning and MS beating Iowa.

What a great game. i was actually rooting for both teams. both are blue collar teams and it's a shame one had to lose. i still think they should've let them score

I agree about letting them score, but Iowa's D is good enough to stop them and that was their only chance. MSU's RB was a beast. His second and third efforts won them that game. Shame that game had to end.

Ward only got in after Postma went down prior to the final drive. Started the game missing Jackson in the backfield and Farrow got knocked out in the 3rd which left the Coogs with just Webb at RB and he had not gotten a whole lot of carries this season. Plus the leading tackler on defense was ejected for targeting in the first quarter....that was a tough loss to take.

But Herman taking Wilson from CB and getting him to play RB against Navy and Temple worked very well. Wilson and Webb have both played well the last two games. I am sure he will have the team ready for whoever they face in a bowl game. They start next season playing at NRG Stadium against Oklahoma...That could be the start of something exciting.

By the way, this college playoff/bowl game show on ESPN is a joke.

Just run through all the bowl matchups, then discuss the Top 4 ad nauseum if they want (and they will).

Making people monitor this thing for four hours is ridiculous.

not sure why you would monitor it if you weren't part of one of the teams. I will wait until the list is posted to find out where Houston will be playing and who they will be defeating.....

Well, we'd like to know, for one. And we're going. Decent airfares are hard to come by to begin with. And it'll be even tougher because of the time of year.

There's no reason the matchups can't be released online. Then the ESPNers can yak about them all they want.

They don't pull this kind of crap for the NCAA basketball tournament. They get right to it.

There isn't enough intrigue to care about a four-hour show when they have a month before the games are played. Release all of the games and then talk about it, completely agree with you.

ESPN wouldn't be able market the commercial airtime as well if they did that. Same reason to spread the first round of the draft over a month.

Money.

Alabama is too big in the trenches. I see them winning it

The rest of the SEC may suck, but bama will likely take the title this season.....

Penn State vs Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl on Jan 2. That's a good matchup.

Tape, a couple things. You couldn't put MSU ahead of Iowa. They lost to Nebraska and Iowa was undefeated. I don't get how anyone can think Ohio State is the best team in the Big Ten? MSU beat them in their house with a back up QB. They knew MSU was running the ball and couldn't stop it. Hell, had MSU not turned the ball over in their own end Ohio State had almost no scoring. Did they sustain a single long drive? I respect their talent level, but they got beat bad in the trenches that day, and that wouldn't change if they played again.

I was in Indy Saturday night at the game and that last drive was ridiculous. Iowa impressed me, all that they hadn't played anybody talk turned out to be irrelevant. You knew when MSU won they were setting up the Saban vs. his former team story line. The only thing I can say is as good as Alabama is, MSU is top notch up front on both sides of the ball. They will have to throw the ball against them. Nobody is just running the ball down their throat.
