He doesn't have quite the hands or ball skills that Moss had, but he is a similar type of vertical threat with his size, acceleration, leaping ability and ability to track and adjust to the ball in the air.

The inconsistent effort and concentration when it comes to fighting for and securing contested passes downfield is really frustrating, though.

His demeanor and body language remind me a lot of Plaxico Burresss, which means he'll be a very good, dangerous receiver for a long time, but will probably never come close realizing his full potential.

Hes the reason why we can beat any team in the league...his catch radius is large like AJ Greens or Julio Jones....but hes more athletic than both. He can get beyond the DB in single coverage almost anytime he wants....he makes the game very easy for Ben in that with that large catch radius, the pass need not be perfect. He adjusts to the ball very well. Mike Wallace never dreamed of doing such

He gets his hands on the balls. He just needs to catch them. Too many drops right now. He is still young, so hopefully, his hands get better and he stays off drugs.

The drugs are the big issue, as he is a toke away from being another Josh Gordon.

One would think he would not be stupid enough to ruin a promising career, but the kid doesn't look or seem that bright.

There is a reason why he was still available in the fourth round other than being part of perhaps the deepest WR class ever.

I disagree with the part about never realizing potential. Hes playing second fiddle to Brown who is the leagues most proficient WR. Every 5th catch is a touchdown for this kid. He knows his potential...Ben knows it too............theres just not enough footballs but hes producing at an amazing rate and its just his 2nd season. Weed is his Kryptonite but as soon as the nation legalizes, look out.

Imagine if he could catch.

Imagine all the footballs, not falling to the earth, Ooooh Oooh. They may say he's a receiver, but he's not the only one. I hope someday he'll join them, and we'll be number one.

He needs a stickier variety of weed.

Even if the nation legalized that doesn't mean the league would... The Broncos don't get to play stoned!

Our "replacement " players

The replacements.

This has been a year of injuries. Usually the next man up is not as good as the initial starting player, but the Steelers have smashed Murphy's law.

Below is a review of the replacement players, who in many cases have upgraded the position, and in many cases will save us a ton of cap space.

Chris Boswell. Few knew his name before the Steelers signed him. Boswell had perhaps the most pressure as the Scobee experiment was an utter failure. If Boswell was a rookie, he's win rookie of the year. His kicking has been excellent for accuracy and distance on field goals.

Boswell is 20-22, with no missed inside of 40 yards. 90.9% accuracy. He has the range to hit 55+ yard field goals and has been solid on his kickoffs.

Deangelo Williams. Simply stated Wiliams is paying excellent. He adds a bit more speed and power running in comparison to Bell, and can thrive with an FB or TE as the extra blocker. Williams is averaging 4.9 yards per carry, which is outstanding! As a pass catcher, he's averaging 10.2 yards per catch ( 4.5 yards more than Bell as a pass catcher ). Williams also scored 6 times, compared to Bell's 3 with just 25 more attempts in the pass catching and rushing department.

A+

Alejandro Villanueva

Villanueva flashed good skills in camp, but the questions remained on how effective he would be as the starting left tackle. When Beachum went down, many Steelers fans feared the worst. Villanueva has been solid to good as a the starter. Early on his had some issues with speed rushers ( and still does ), but he seems to have improved a bit with more experience. Tall with extremely long arms, Villanueva has already proven to be a better run blocker in comparison to Beachum. Army tough, he hasn't committed many penalties either which is somewhat rare for a new starting left tackle. Beachum is a free agent next year, and could command 8-10 Million a year on the open market. The Steelers could have an upgrade here, and saved themselves 7+ million in projected cap space, in addition to picking up a likely compensatory pick in 2017 for Beachum.

Grade A-

Cody Wallace

A known commodity, Wallace isn't very skilled or big. However, he is experienced, and gritty. Often overmatched vs. bigger Defensive Tackles or Nose Guards, Wallace's play has been good enough to win with and has not held the offense back as a run blocker at all. He's not an upgrade over a healthy Pouncey, but he is a valuable reserve.

The kid is an amazing talent. No one is disputing that, but he also drops a lot of passes, doesn't always fight for balls like he should, and has a route tree resembling a flag pole. He's currently an explosive weapon, who benefits greatly from playing across from the best WR in the league, but there are holes in his game.

If he's willing to work to fill them, the sky's the limit, but it's hard not to be skeptical of his attitude and dedication when he followed all the questions surrounding those things in college by being caught smoking dope multiple times within his first year in the league.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but there's no guarantee that he'll work to get better or won't **** it up off the field.

And there you have it Martavis... Trust is easy to lose, very hard to earn back.

Fans are tough *** S.O.B.'s. You earn their respect and they'll name the damn children after you. Lose their respect and it will take a very great deal of time and work to earn it back. But, the rewards my friend... the rewards. The game doesn't make you a God. It's the fans. And Pittsburgh fans are the best damn fans in the world. The very best.

He is the X-factor.. just needs to start catching those contested passes and he will be an unstoppable weapon

And his ability to blow by people is very Mike Wallace like. Bryant might be the fastest Steelers in pads.

When we came out with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense, then when we did get the wr's on the field, I kept saying to my wife "where the **** is 10?" We had ******* wheaton and dhb out there with 10 on the bench. THAT my friends is ******* dumb. As soon as he hit the field, within three plays he's pulling in a 20+ yard grab, then there was the catch down the sideline where it looked like everyone else was in slo mo.

This kid is a beast, he's a freak of nature with that size and speed. He does drop a few, but ****, his touchdown percentage is ******* un-real. Get him on the damn field when you're in the shotgun, for ***** sake.

Joe

I think Bryant was a little injured for the game, but you're right. Get him on the field. His presence alone can dictate coverage, opening things up for AB, or Wheaton underneath!

Haha, that was 3rd an 3. Ben should have just took the short completion and moved the sticks.::p:

Is it possible he did something immature again causing the team to sit him in the 1st quarter? As I watched I sent a text to my son saying its one of 2 things...he sure didnt look hurt...so that leads me to the other thing..just a guess of course

This has been going on for several weeks now. For extended periods during each game, Wheaton and even DHB have been on the field with AB and no Bryant. The drops may be the reason. Bad practice may be the reason. Or, they may just not see him as a true No. 2 WR yet. This weeks game certainly was not new for this as I have been commenting on it for at least 3 or 4 weeks now.

Rumor has it he is guilty of bogarting.

The rumors on twitter last night from some writers was that Martavis has had a hip issue (maybe a bruise) that doesn't limit him in practice per se (i.e. not enough where he has to be listed), but that the Steelers were resting him at times during games so that it doesn't get worse.

New England has lost two games in a row

Are they out of Lobster spray?

more likely out of players...It was fun seeing the Browns Bellycheat on display against the Eagles this week...not such a genius when your players aren't that good or know how to follow your cheat system...
