Coaching "tree"...

Wasn't Dom Capers Carolina's first coach and coach them to the NFCCG. Marvin Lewis coached an all time great(single season) defense in Baltimore, and a huge reason they won a super bowl.

Yeah Capers was Chin’s first DC. He came over from the Saints being an Asst coach under Jim Mora for several years in the late 80’s early 90’s. Both had been in the USFL. Can’t remember which team (Philly Stars?), but 3/4 was the calling card.

I think Cowher had 8 assistants become Head Coaches

Capers
Gailey
Lebeau
Mularkey
Whisenhunt
Marvin Lewis
Jim Haslett
Kevin Gilbride - forget if he was a HC before or after the steelers

Munch, but his was a lateral move. Point is, somebody else wanted him. Think Joey Porter is gonna coach again any time soon?

I would not be shocked if Porter winds up at Penn State. His son is committed there. Porter does have college coaching experience at Colorado State. He'd probably be a good recruiter, particularly in western PA.

Not sure if Porter is the guy I want representing my program.

So you are implying that Tomlin is not a good talent evaluator? I'm shocked.

Pedigree is not something you are born with but it's the accumulation of Tomlinisms with in.

Salute the nation

In Tomlins defense he has hired more experienced assistants than a bunch of young guys. And 3 Lebeau, Munchak and Haley had already been head coaches.

You forgot Dom Capers, Ike. He has had a decent run. He didn't win any SBs but he had some decent seasons.

Hey Wig, yeah I started to put Dom on there but he really came from the Mora tree when he was an asst with him in the USFL AND at New Orleans. Chin pulled him away as his first DC (for three years). He was on the HC fast track because of it and got the expansion interview because of Mr. Rooney and Mr. Richardson’s connection.

He and Coach LeBeau were already aquatinted because of Ohio State as well. His experience was more Mora driven IMO. He also was a DC for a long time in Green Bay too. Have no idea where he is now. Don’t even know where is now after being let go last year.
