I guess it's an ankle this time. How frustrated do you think Houston fans are with this guy? At least our perpetually injured first round defensive player does seem to actually be a good player when he does play. Clowney has zero sacks and 12 tackles in 3 games this year. Can't really feel too bad for the Texans when you consider the one red flag on this guy was his motivation and a tendency to take plays off. He was good in college, but the hype machine on him really kicked in after he made that big hit in the bowl game against Michigan. When you think about it, that hit made him millions more than he probably deserved. Wouldn't label him a bust yet, but it ain't lookin good.

In basketball, the micro fracture surgery can really kill a career. I imagine this is going to be a year where he shows some flashes when he plays, but I just can't see him doing much till next one. And I say this still thinking he was the best option at #1. But his career may have been forever altered by his knee injury last year.

What confounds me about the Texans is that they didn't trade up for Bridgewater as he was dropping into the 20s.

This will probably be the reason O'Brien will be out of a job in a year. Unless he can somehow grab Jared Goff.

clowney was a physical freak but not a good football player. SC just set him after the QB and he didn't do much else. Can't blame them for that. From what i've seen Houston has him really learning the position of 3-4 OLB. He's dropping in coverage, setting the edge, etc. We know it takes time for college DEs to transition to 3-4 OLB.

Clowney has the reputation of not being the hardest worker so it's no surprise he's struggling. He should be a beast when he knows what he's doing. Anybody on the opposite side of Watt, doesn't have to be great to make an impact.

The bigger question is why is their secondary so bad?

O'Brien had the beginning of a legacy at Penn State. Why a successful college coach would want to test the NFL waters is beyond me.;

Courtney Brown had the same injury after being taken number one by the Browns in 2000 and was never the same. He showed a lot of promise as a rookie prior to it.

Clowney was/is is an amazing talent, probably the best since Julius Peppers came out in 2002, but I never thought he would come close to living up to the hype, as his heart just isn't in it enough.

Wasted talent

they should of went with bortles in the first place and grabbed support for watt later, rather than instantly.
Thank God we did not go after Kareem jackson, he looks like the worst version of K. Lewis the one that was always playing the wr and not the wr and was always called for pass intc as he would be too late to turn and be in place to play the wr. The amount kareem jacksot was ludacris, I was hoping we would of just retained B. mccain and had him cortez paired and rotated with gay when we went nickel or dime.
