Considering Dobbs was up against the Buccaneers' first team defense that included high draft pick defenders like*Vernon Hargreaves*and White, his composure and execution with both his arm and his legs in just two drives were a good start to his preseason.*

He looked like a poor man's slash out there. Some good, some bad. He can bring you splash plays, and splash accuracy issues as well.

With Hodges playing well and Rudolph IMO showing year 2 improvement. That trade Dobbs idea flashed into my head.

Only one preseason game so I will cool my jets and wait and see.

Dobbs didn’t lead the offense to touchdowns. I still think he’s too inconsistent and turnover prone.

Rudolph looked more solid. I still see a lack of zip in his arm and that bothers me a bit.

Hodges is sort of a mix between the two. The rookie intrigued me.

A while back I suggested to trade Dobbs for something. Slash, are you on board with that idea now :). I’d take a fifth round pick for Dobbs right now. Agreed?

I’d sit Ben for game 2 in the pre-season start him in game 3 and play him for 2 series with the first string OL in game 4.

Little early. Like to see more from all three backups. I am leaning towards Rudolph as the primary backup.............

The last thing we need is a running QB. The backup to Ben needs to be able to run the same offense that Ben runs. To me, keeping Dobbs is a mistake. I think the other 2 guys behind him looked better.

I don't like running QBs. Never have because of two issues. First, they usually run before they wait to see if a big play comes open. This stifles their QBing skills. They always know they can take off and get a few yards. Second, injury issues. Qbs in the NFL aren't going to last long running around and I can't think of one pure running QB that has ever won anything. Kordell Stewart got to the AFCC game but he ran into a defense that wouldn't let him run and he threw 3 ints. Game over. So players like Kordell, Tebow, Vick etc... can't pass well enough to win when it counts.

One more thing. Watching the game Friday night you could clearly see the difference between Ben and everyone else. Nobody on this team has the arm of Ben... and it isn't close. The back shoulder throw in the EZ by Rudy took 5 minutes to get there. You can't do that against most starting CBs or DBs. Dobbs long pass looked like a punt. He leads the guy and it's 6. Ben is a gunslinger. Few starters in the NFL have his arm. None of these backups have anywhere close to it. If Ben plays 3 more seasons then Dobbs will be here 5 years and Rudy 4. I don't see that happening. So Dobbs maybe traded at some point.

I agree w/ Vader; but I don't see Dobbs getting traded - IIRC, when he's behind the 1's on the OL, he looks waay better than Landry Jones and we kept him for 5 years...

With jones, though, we didn't have a decent guy who could take over as #2. And i doubt anyone would give us squat for him.

From my reading of TC stuff, dobbs have come on later in TC and they are pretty even.

We should see Rudolph get time with better guys next game

Ark is right. They kept Jones because they didn't have anyone else.

IMHO the Steelers next starting QB isn't on today's roster.

I have to tend to agree with yaz Vader. Dobbs should never have been drafted as he is a runner. Rudolph is closer but like said, week arm. I'm amazed at how strong Roethlisberger's arm is even at his age and more than likely NOT drinking TB12. Mahomes has a pretty strong arm as proof they an be found in this younger generation, after all it is a PASSING / points league.

PS...... RUDOLPH may surprise us and become a starter for us. He old do pretty well as we are a "built" team that is emerging.
