Cincy Redo with Hoot n Beer.

oh - they showed the boyd td from a different angle. Boyd pushed off. **** him.

33 illegal block on the Kickoff. legit. I saw it.

next play is the MR near safety where he throws it away. Cincy dialed up a good blitz and I think Jaysam actually missed the pickup. Not sure who called (or miscalled) the protection here, but that had to be the RB's pickup. I am sure Cincy wanted a grounding, but Jaysam is in direct line of ball trajectory.

Give MR credit and protection credit on next play. They find Tevon Jones on the drag and gives them room. MR gets the first on a keeper.

Next play - first and ten - deep to Washington. The protection is there and MR lets it loose. He overthrows Washington by a couple yards but I can't complain here. I like the deep shot try because we have to loosen defenses. It is under 2 minutes and we are behind. He overthrew and not under threw. protection was good. May have been MR's best "incompletion" of the game.

next play a short run...JSam gets oob but horsecollar.

MR checks down to Samuels but missed a wide open Holton over the middle. Don't know that Holton would have gotten further than JSam did but still worth noting MR missed the open guy right in front of him.

two minute offense (and defense) MR misses 18 on the out pattern. There is no pressure cuz defense is playing back. Gotta make this throw and move the chains and stop the clock.

third and three. He has Edmunds out of the backfield for the first. Not only does he have him...he stares him the whole way. I don't know why he doesn't let it rip here. Instead he ends up trying to scramble, tossing it i the dirt and taking the grounding penalty. This isn't a coaching or open reciever issue. This on MR.

punt. penalty.

Cincy passes - Barron on the Defensive holding.

Nelson and Minkah stand up Eifert on the next pass catch. Nothing amazing, just calling out people who do something.

Hargrave plays a little 3 tech (tuitt's spot) and I think a little 1 tech. couple of decent defensive plays overall including Nelson's open field tackle of Finely. We don't talk much about Nelson but he is my FA pickup of the year. Dude has quietly taken care of business.

putn. knee. half.

I just felt up the bird. Breast is still cold and firm. Not yet thawed. Might not have taken it out of the freezer in time for Thursday. Maybe doing a water bath on Wed.

Next play is a disaster. this is a nice design that gets Vance open and heading to the sidelines. He is wide open and MR seems to be looking that general direction. I do not know why he does not fire. Doesn't matter cuz Finney got owned and MR dropped. MR's response...late throw. could have been grounding but they said in the grasp. So, you know, 2cnd and 23. What a mess that play was.

Snell gets a few yards on the left side off tackle. DD pulled and got a decent kickout block and Vance set the inside block to give the lane. this what I want to see from OL in run game. good for 10 yards.

3rd and 13. He has both the RB and TE underneath and wide open. They won't likely get first downs though so I don't fault him looking downfield. He tries to force one between 3 defenders to 18. This is just the **** throw that fell short. This is the type of play that can be a defining moment...if he fires that in there for a strike, he is a damn hero. If not, he gets pulled next series. He did not fire the heater home.

Note for the future - Spillane is in on the stop on punt coverage for the second straight time. If he can play ST...welll, you know what they say.

So, here is an interesting contrast. Cincy comes out with 1 wide out...everyone else "in the box" as an offesensive set. A little different from our 2TE with WB formation, but close enough. QB under center with ace back. Steelers defensive response is still 7 guys in the box and 4 loosey goosey. When we did something similar with hats in the box, Natti responded with 9 guys in the box. One defneder wide in m2m and one deep safety. We run blitz hilton and he gets there to make the stop, but the contrast is interesting.

Down points and in 2rd and 9. We sit back this time in coverage rather than run the up front stunts and games. Coverage is good - kudos to both Barron and Nelson for their blankets this play.

third and long finely comes up short on throw. TJ and Bud pressure and force a bad throw. Haden in coverage. Barron tripped up in the wash near the line but got back up to drop to his zone.

punt.

Duck time.

Duck to Jsam for the first. Finey beat on the play though. Again, RT is a bit of an issue this game. 18 with a decent downfield block after the catch.

snell on an off tackle for a couple. DD gets a kick, but Vance didn't hold the inside guy like before so stuffed for only 2.

next play is thrown up deep for Wash, but PI. Of note, blitz came up the middle and 34 picked it up. Duck didn't flinch. Full trust in his blocker. Gotta love that.

interesting comment made by talking head...."Ike Taylor has been working the officials since that one play and now it is starting to pay off." Take that for what it is worth. I bet y'all missed it in game same as me cuz you were too busy watching some other **** go down. like a pass, catch, stiff arm, TD! **** yea! Can I get a witness? (if not, y'all suck)

just rewatched that play about 8 times. The protection was sweet. That was the best pass pro I have seen all game.

Spillane again on the ST tackle. Take a note. I said in the 4th preseason game that he was just a guy. Well, that was the 4th preseason game but in real games, looks like he might have some ST game. I'm good with that.

Cincy gets one to Mixon. He reverses field and gets out to the left. Nelson tries to shoulder him rather than wrap up. Mixon doesn't go far, but that is the biggest mistake I think I have seen on Neslon this year. Gotta get those arms out and wrap up kid.

next run is intereseting. reminds me of an old i formation 24 Iso. Except, the lead blocker is lined up more as a Wing Back. Barron meets the lead blocker like he should...like an old Oklahoma drill for those of you iron heads that remember that **** (I loved that drill). Trouble is, Barron doesn't meet the lead in the hole but a yard upfield. The result is RB cuts to the side away from Edmunds who is now caught in the wash and cant make the tackle. Result is a solid run for Cincy.

Next play is back to Mixon but Edmunds wrangles him down. good open field tackle.

Eifert beats Edmunds twice on the next play. First on the route, he fakes the inside move which Edmunds bites on. That gets Eiffert open then on the catch, Tyler changes direction hard and TE overplays the tackle which gets Eiferet free for the first. Edmunds got beat, but it was a darn nice pair of direction changes by Eifert. I'd tip my hat to Tyler but **** him. He's a Bunghole.

This is our worst defensive series of the game. They go back to Mixon who powers into Barron a little bit. You can't help but think that the defense needs a breather. I am not giving back the TD for ****, but the O didn't take much time off the clock. Of course, this issue goes back to the first half...I dont' know what TOP is at this point of the game, but I gotta believe the D has been on the field a lot.

Haden called for the PI on the next play. I am on the condensed replay so I don't get the slo mo rewwind. The hold took place off camera for this review so I have no comment. they did blitz Hilton on the play so that left Hayden in 1:1 with Boyd. Not sure this is a good idea. Take their best receiver away and that is Boyd with Green on the sidelines nursing that ankle.

next play - little game with Bud and Barron again. Guess who makes the play in the backfield...Barron. Too bad Bush had the illegal hands to face. yes, he did it.

couple of runs follow. first one Barron correctly sets the edge and turns RB back into the "off tackle" lane which becomes what I call the anchor and the LB's job to clean up. Alahu is in there and I think Bush. Makes sense. Next run we show blitz up the middle with Barron. Cincy goes right at it. Barron, Chick and Alahu al in there fore the stop. Holding Cincy.

next couple we play coverage and not pressure. Probably because TJ is out. It works - hold them to a FG. Win for the defense.

Hoot, haven't really checked the thread yet, but I thought Javon Hargrave had one of his best games to date (and he's had a few really good ones). Tyson Alualu is playing well as well IMO. Just my eye catching it and not breaking it down. Oh, and Cam Heyward is a beast.

oy. next play is a bit ugly. Just a four man rush here. Al tries to cut block the DE and I am not sure why. First, I hate the cut block as it targets the knees. Second, he just misses so he is now on the ground but the defender is not. Moreover, 71 gets whipped again. Duck dumps to Vance who has nowhere to go.

Note to Me: I gotta look at other tape, but for all the bitching about bad OL play the worst I see in this game is RT. Al has issues, but he is also tasked with likely the best pass rusher from game to game.

run for no gain takes us to a third and long. 71 just gets whipped though the RB (edmunds) made a nice backside chip. Duck does what MR could not, give a little shift outside the rush over top of Fieler and get outside to try to make a play. Nobody open. PUnt.

Well go get fisted for not reading everything I write and hanging on every word. I am dissapointed. LOL. Seriously, you right, digger had a fine game from what I saw live and from what I see in slomo rewatch. Alahu held his own, but he is not Cam or Digger. That is clear.

I tend not to watch punts too close, but left my "slow" button pushed by accident...33 had a really nice block on the punt protect. I have noted a few times this game his chip blocks. Y'all file that away for when you call for his head to be cut later. I don't see a game break runner, but guy is doing little things that go unseen by fans. Important things. Secret things.

awww HELL NO!

Noticed something...Spillane not in on that punt coverage (or I just dont' see him) but chick was. chick pushed out of the return. I'm gwine to start a hashtag campaign for Spillane on Special Team. It will go like this.... Hashtag...you have to say the hashtag outloud...say it...#CutChick

Next play from LOS chic is in for Bud. He and Edmunds make the tackle but, you know, #GiveSpillaneAChance LOL

Couple of plays - Bud is getting a rest and so is Cam. Chic and Alahu in. Not sure that is a combo I like, but there it is. It works. TJ still pushing upfield but a lot less from Digger. No games up front tho so this is a hockey style "line change" series. we gettin' some rest. Oh, and Neslon with good coverage again. Quietly, this guy is the snitz.

Haden gets beat, but QB misses the throw. WHEW! the "line change" series worked.

So now we gonna tell the stats folks to STFU for a second. I know the narrative is that Duck had one play. I get it, that is correct. But this next 1st down, he comes out and hits a slant to DJ with authority and confidence. Ball had zip and gave DJ a chance (and he made a first with it). Duck slung it like a pro. MR just has not done that in similar circumstances.

WR screen - DJ just drops it. That isn't on Duck.

Couple plays later....3rd and a bit...Duck doesn't get much time but the announcers says, "Hodges eludes the rush"....he did with a nice little move. He scramble and can't get the first, but at no time have I heard "Rudolph eludes the rush". Sorry MR fans...I don't hate MR, I just don't, but for this game Duck did Pro QB stuff with the same line, the same receivers, and the same OC that MR had. alas, duck no get first so punt.

next cincy play on O is a pass....Hilton adn Bush on the pressure to force a bad pass but bracketed coverage by Minkah and Haden. 4th Q

Beer run.

next play is a bit interesting. at least to me but probably not to coolie but **** that guy right? Its an off tackle run to the right by Mixon. TJ is lined up like he is gonna set the edge and leave anchor to DT with Barron the prime tackler in the tunnel created. Barron comes up behind TJ and comes up field to set the edge. I think TJ is supposed to hold the lane but he gets washed out. That is the first time I have seen that happen to him. Not a criticism you *****...that is a compliment. dude never gets caught like that but he should. I am just suprised to see he is actually human after all. Yes, I said that Coolie but I didn't mean it. Just seeing if you are awake and modding.

dupree forces a fast throw. boyd can't hang on with 28 on good coverage. punt forced.

run for nothing up the middle.

Duck pass to Wash. bad pass. BUT! he had a fairly clean pocket...more than MR. The only pressure was from the right...yes, RT again...but Duck sees it and stands tall. Kudos for that.

3rd and 8. Hodges gets a long time in the pocket but doesn't throw. I assume nobody open but no all22's to validate. I can say this...the pressure ulitmately comes from the RT side. This is not a good game for Finney. We got the PI so good for us.

Next play is another PI on Webb. It is PI, no doubt. I would like to point to a nice backside block by Jsam in Pass Pro. I think it is Jsam. could be Edmunds, but I think it is 38 not 33.

Whyte for nothing.
Hodges kicks out on the scramble as nothing is open. No complaints on pass protection...this is a coverage scramble.

Lawson jumps so we almost in FG range. What is funny is the ref calls "false start'...a few fans cheer....then "correction, nuetral zone infraction" and a lot of fans cheer. Stay classy Cincy fans. Oh, wait, I forgot...the big conspiracy and refs and stuff screwed you.

Duck tries a side arm pass that fails. Not much else there. But the point I note is that he had the awareness to change his arm slot to try to make a play. If he he doesn't change slot, DE eats that up. Again, Fieler not looking good.

Boz comes in for the money. Glad we didn't give up and cut the guy on the knee jerk last year. Sometimes you have to stand by your guy and believe.

So, second half defense...been thinking this for a bit...we stopped gaming (stunting) as much and got a lot more vanilla up front. I dont' like it. Still, guys balling. This first play is all about Cam. Digger and bush play clean up, but its all Cam.

next play - vanilla up front. no stunts, no games. playing coverage, not pressure. Hilton gets a nice play on ball. But next play, ericson gets a good play up the sidelines. Not sure why the shift from pressure to coverage but definitely a change in scheme.

next play the Right Tackle is a yard into our side of the field. False start, but I am sure the refs are conspiraning against Cincy.

Mixon gets a solid run up the middle next play. Cam comes back and makes a nasty tackle whcih I love. But we have gone to some conservative **** and you know who is not on the field...Barron. Not that I can see anyway.

Mixon makes something out of busted play next. TJ had him dead for a 7 yard loss but missed the tackle. Bud missed next and Mixon wiggles free for a first. Bush makes the tackle. Again. we have gone to a softer defense scheme.

next is the boyd catch, fumble and minkah recovery. Lets just get this out of the way...

- Yes, it is a catch and a fumble. Sorry Cincy trolls, it is.
- No, Minkah never stepped out of bounds. He just didn't. Sorry apologists who think he did, but he didn't. I can see the shiny ******* steel on his cleats as well as I can see the grass between them and the sideline on all three steps. If you don't like it, deal with Coolie. He is a bad *** even if he doesn't like me. I blame the gubberment.
