Cincy Redo with Hoot n Beer.

Yup. On vacation. Got a pile of cheap beer. Got the Cincy game queued up on NFL Rewind. Can't seem to get the coaches film to work for some reason, but the condensed broadcast loads. I am not going to record and slow mo a bunch of ****...just rewatching with my eye on some things:

- MR, of course.
- OL play
- Mark Barron
- Gravedigger.


If y'all got something you want me to look for, ask. Or, if you want to mess with me while I drink, ask whatever. Cope isn't here, so why not.
 
First play Watt blew up the run int he backfield, but Digger was 2 yards deep in the backfield.

Second play, Digger was pass rushing against 2 OL. Steelers playin' coverage. Barron sat down in his zone on the inside shoulder of Boyd taking away any slants. Boyd runs a little out and catches but T. Edmunds has the outside and gets the tackle. Barron played that correct even though you might see him "trailing" the coverage. He wasn't in M2M

Thrid down - Barron picks up Bernard on the motion and seems to have him 1:1. If GB is supposed to get this ball, its only as a dump. Ball was completed for a first over the top of Haden. Digger is Defensive left 3-tech (outside OG shoulder). He draws two blockers.
 
First and 10. Gut run to Mixon. Both Barron and Bush on the field. Bush gets upfield quick through is gap, but run is one gap down. He had his guy beat and darn near gets around - 60 holds him but he still gets the ankles (hold is called). Barron fills the other gap and in on the stop for no gain along with Edmunds. That is good ball by all 3.

first down 15 - mixon on a 24 dive from Black set (shotgun Back Left). Barron, Bush, and Williams in on the stop. (Chick is in for TJ. Only one down lineman...Cam...with Cick and Dupree on edge...7techs basically....so basically 5 LB's on the field.
 
When I first read the title I thought you were getting a new hairdo in Cincinnatti !!!

One question is, has WATT been used in coverage nearly as much as in the past?


Two question, would have you brought in ELI and cut Horton knowing you lose the outside speed?

scond and long and they are in that - everyobdy in a 2 point stance defense. Cam is on his feet but over center. Plays a little game with Vince which was nice to watch. Haden tips the pass. Baron drops to his zone spot.

third and long - digger on the field and is tight on the Dl beside Cam. Games over the top of Cam and gets some pressure. Barron drops to zone. G. Bernard sits underneath the zone and gets the pass then drags across the field. Barron in pursuit, but the guy who has the best shot at him is Edmunds. TE's angle is cut off by the wash of another Cincy reciievr before he can get around and get GB out of bounds. Was a nice catch and run by GB.

I buzz my head because maintenance is a fuckload easier. I save a ton on hair products...just some soap and a towel. cold rain and sunburn sucks but they make hats. I hate hats. I used to shave to baldie...love the feel but it grows back too fast. I might go get me one of them brazilian wax jobs on my head one day.

I'll watch TJ. Honestly, I don't see him cover much. Mostly he has played DE (especially with the one and 2 "big" sets they like to use).


I would have brought in Eli a while back. I like Eli and thought he was better than Switz. But, I knew Switz would get the roster spot ahead of Eli. Sucks that.
 
punt to the 2.snell gut run. nothing. Snell off tackle right, nothing. third and long with MR's feet in his own EZ.
not good protection across the board. RT gets owned...when MR tries to step up, Foster is in the way cuz he got beat. MR pass high to Snell. Scary pass.

Mixon on first. Digger makes the play along with others...including Barron and Bush.

second - digger loses his feet and put down by the OL. Bush and Barron in coverage. TJ blew it up and caused Finley to fumble.

Third and long - digger and cam running the same game as before (digger over the top). They draw 3 blockers but still push 'em back. Watt and Dupree getting outside pressure so Finely dumps to Bernard underneath the zone. Barron is there to make the stop.



So, we will see where this goes, but Barron played pretty good the first two series despite the meme about him.
 
First and ten - four man rush and MR gets time. He makes a pass to DJ on the outside but MR just stared him down the whole way. I can't see all the routes but Vance, Washington and I can't see the other numbers are all underneath the LB's and covered tight. Back releases away and looks to be open for the dump, but MR never looked off DJ.

Ok then I will just say it. I drank 5 rye to get through that thing. Any Steelers win is good, but that game sucked balls to watch.
 
2cnd and short - no huddle, shotgun. Immediate pass to trips on the right. Pass is high, but Wash pulls it down. Looked like DE nearly got a hand on it.

Next play was the first Whyte sighting. Kid juked a DL in the gap. Freakin' nice move. That Dl was unblocked so that big play was all on the scat back.

Snell Gut run. Nothing special but got four yards.
Snell again, this time off tackle the other way. three yards but he just doesn't have the speed to be outside.
falst start - 38. This is the kinda **** that drives coaches nuts. Just made third and three a third and 8.

MR looks right on the next play then back left. Dj comes back to get the ball and a first down. WHile the pass is behind DJ, I think that was expected. DJ was coming back to the ball before the throw and got tangled a bit iwth the DB.

Next play MR goes deep. He ignores a couple open underneath guys, but I have no issue taking a shot downfield. Problem is nobody was there. MR and WR not on the same page about where the route was to go. I don't know who.

Whyte has a couple nice runs before an MR scramble then the INT. I don't have the all22's just yet, but I can see enough. Three routes are converging on the middle which is right into the middle and underneath the defensive shell. The MLB is still shallow so this is a terrible play design in my eyes. DD's man gets his hand up and deflects the ball.

yes it did. I watched but live I just watch. On replay, I watch individuals a lot closer. I know the rewatch will suck but since I know we win and the beer is cold, its good.
 
next defensive snap is interesting. Barron and Dupree play a little game. Dupree crashes the B gap and Barron over the top to set the edge. Barron meets a wall in the cincy LT. This leaves the C gap the only running lane and that is where it is going. This is what I would call the "anchor" man's job and in this case anchor appears to be LB or S. Problem is backside OG is pulling and leading. Someone has to give himself up to take out the lead blocker. Any guesses who? Minah submarines the OG to make a train wreck. This is textbook **** and the type of stuff a lot of fans don't see. Bush gets caught up in the wash with Barron but they clog up enough for Digger to come down the line and make the play from the other side of the field. This was a good team run stuff right here.

*just noticed Minah not only took out the pulling lineman, he bounced up and got into the tackle as well. that is gold right there.
 
next play is a godo run stuff. Alahu is in so I assume Cam getting a breather. Bush and Digger in near the stopp as is Tuitt. Interestingly enough, backside edge is set by Barron. His role here is to deal with any misdirection such as a reverse. He sets up fine but I suspect some would say he was "being lazy" and just watching. He was honoring his responsibility of backside contain here.
 
next play is the PI on Hilton. Intersting game up front - TJ collapses down the line and Digger games over the top of him. Digger is in Finley's face on the throw. I don't liek the PI call but I am old school. I am okay with a little hand jivin.

Next play Mixon finds a wall of defense and cuts back. Barron is there honoring his backside responsibility again. He didn't make the play, but he sticks his head in at the end. He was where he was supposed to be.

next play dupree gets held. not called but no matter. Finely tosses it into the ground on the bs screen. Watt is all over this play. Barron got held down field but no call either.

Next play TJ is just as disruptive and Cam gets the sack. Bugs is fighting in there as well. I like the spit and vinegar.
 
our ball - run stuffed. nobody accounted for the LB shooting the C gap. Not sure I understand the play design. Vance pulls like he is going to lead the play right, but the handoff is on the left side. If Vance was supposed to draw an LB across the top as a fake, it didn't work.

next play finds MR under immediate pressure on the play action. Feiler is not good on this one. Al isn't either, but Feiler gets whipped worse. I can't see the routes to see if anyone is open.

Kinnard blitzes on the blind side on 3rd and 8. MR got it out to the bunch set on the right to Samuels underneath - the only open guy. I give MR credit here for getting it out but he stared the bunch set down the entire way.

Barron unblocked - Safety! oh yea. nevermind. ****. Still, damn nice defense. Barron showed coverage and blitzed. Good call, good execution.

it dawns on me, I gotta figure a way to share video with you nuts and get some of yinz in a voice channel on Discord or something.
 
couple of basic plays up next. Cincy just runnign to make rooom to punt. TJ is out. Haden gets a nice run stop. Strategy to rest TJ works and nearly got us 2. On the punt, DJ fields it. I know he nearly put 2 on the deck before, but this guy looks like a return man. he didn't go anywhere, but not for lack of trying. I assume the Switz experiment is over? Can we cut Switz and bring back Eli now?

over to offense.

First down, We have a pretty old school formation. 2TE with basically a Wing Back. One wideout off the line and an Ace back. MR under center. Not suprisingly, Cincy counters with 9 in the box. In short, there is one more defender in the box than we have blockers. Snell tries to get outside but Decastro gets submarined and Snell hurdles him meaning Snell has no chance to make the extra hat miss. Even if he doesn't have to hurdle, he isn't going anywhere. This is just a play Snell doesn't have the speed to make to the outside. I put this one on Fitch. Round peg, square hole. Maybe Whyte can do it, but he has been to, what, 2 practices?
 
There was a hold on the play so Randy goes to a run with Whyte. Dropped for a loss putting us in 2cnd and 21. MR finds Cain. WHO THE **** IS THAT? I know some called that a 'body' catch but that was hands first. That was nice. I know, one play, but I'd like to see more of this kid.

Fieler is concerning me the more I watch replay.

a few hard runs by edmunds and snell. then a stuff then a nice little move by Bennie on an off tackle to the left and back inside. Kid played hard. He isn't fast, but if he plays within himself you can work with him. Runs like a truck. I like trucks.

terrible pass by MR to the endzone. He had room to throw and time. He was behind 14. Should have been 6 so instead its Boz money time.
 
TJ and Bud flush Finely next play. He scrables a bit but big Cam had a nice angle. I always love seein' the big guys run. looks like Edmunds and Nelson on the touchup when QB slides. Digger also had some pressure on his stunt. Play was just away from him.

next play is boyd's one handed catch. We did not get pressure up front for the first time. Edmund's coverage isn't bad. Boyd just made a sick ******* catch. I don't tip my hat to any Bungles playesr, but if I did I might have there. I don't, so **** him and his one handed catch.

next one is the TD. No pressure. Alahu is in - not calling him out, just noting it. the pass is an absolutle duck (no offense to our duck). Hadens coverage isn't bad. If that pass is thrown correctly he is in position I think. Alas, it really is a short, wobbly throw which the reciver adjusts to (he can see it) but I don't think Haden can.

this series really is 2 freakishly good plays by Boyd. Hat tip? No, **** him.
 
Dawns on me while I was downstairs...I am not counting MR's steps on his drop. Wondering if he takes too many on the shotgun. something to watch for.
