Chuck Noll On NFL Network Friday 9:00 pm

I disagree with that slightly. The OL was starting to leak oil in 2006. Injuries and age. It is definitely better now. Took a while, but it is better.

Otherwise that is a valid argument. Why haven't they been drafting well or developing talent well? Valid. To not give him credit for winning a Super Bowl, not valid.

But that had more to do with a new O-line coach IMO...........

Must see TV for the younginz. Attention to details, grown up approach to life. Chuck would have no time for the idiots on this team.

In many ways, Noll was the antithesis of Cool Shades: Not a lot of words spoken, action instead of fluff, no need to be buddies with the players and major attention to detail and accountability across the board. He was one of the best of all time.

In Nolls time players were different as well as society in general. There was not all this political correctness and worrying about hurt feelings and what not. Also players are so pampered now a days they are like giant kids. It is almost impossible to compare coaches from different eras.
.

Not true. Hoodie would kick *** in any era.

As for tomlin i do not think he helps this team. He seems to follow the modern liberal trend. I think the team needs a coach more like cowher. This team lacks real leadership and needs a more hands on in your face coach. A few players seem to be stepping up and speaking out which is both good and bad because certain things could cause locker room drama. It would be better coming from the coach or staying behind closed doors.
The team has been more physical lately, but we have gone against two of the worst olines. Hopefully it will at least give them some confidence.

At that time all but a handful of top superstars had off-season jobs or were otherwise working on other careers because you didn't make enough money to live on the rest of your life when you retired from football.

And that's fine. I have no argument to that. Cowher deserves all of the credit for what he accomplished from the minute he became head coach, as did Noll and as does Tomlin.

What I don't understand about the venom towards Tomlin in this regard is he deserves credit for not being a huge ego and having to put his stamp on the team like so many coaches do. He could have come in and turned the team over. How stupid would have that been? Which is even more reason the whole argument is just asinine.

this is a fair point, and i've always tried to make it clear that i personally felt a sincere sense of appreciation to tomlin for at least his first 2-3 years, because yes, he could've been on a power trip from day 1 and decided that he was gonna re-stock immediately in his own way, but he didn't (and thank GOD for that). he understood what he had before him, and even he knew not to mess too much with it, and of course, we were rewarded with 2 more superbowl appearances, winning one. That said, time moves forward, and what he's put before us since the prior core left, is absolutely nothing to write home about. But I want him desperately to prove me wrong; i want to see him get HIS team locked in to go on a major run at the end of this season, and WELL into the playoffs (don't give me this 1 game wildcard bullshit where the other team has to melt down for you to win). believe me, i'm no fan of having a coaching carousel, it's a foolish way to run an enterprise, but 10 years is a 10 years, and if we don't see an upswing soon, how could you blame the ownership if they stand up and say "enough is enough"?

Not a fan of fake **** or cheating fuckwads either. ******* guy did jack **** in Cleveland. Noll is twice the coach that he will ever be. He didn't need some clandestine operation going on either.

That is very true,.........PROVIDED Ernie was there and Video cameras had been invented. Imagine Noll kicking HOODIE'S @SS JUST FOR INTEGRITY. Noll would definately win as hoodie has NONE, Zilch, fat zero, nottA, NilcH, <0........Kapish!!!!

**** you for bringing the hoodie into a classic coache's thread. Convicted cheater and should be BANNED for life.......wake up

OOoooopppps, PooP got me off track.

I watched the show too. Chuck had class all the way around. He wanted to let Glanville know of his dirty tactics and he did just that on a very public stage. He tried to prepare his players for their life's work. He was brutally honest and held accountable all players, even his STARS.!!! Just enough good can not be said about Chuck Noll, individual / coach / Integritty.

Salute the nation and CHUCK. NOLL

Terry can pout or frown or what ever the hell he wants. Chuck made Terry Bradshaw, not the other way around. Deep down I think Terry just wanted to hear Chuck say I love you like a son. Ultimately that is what it was. The era Noll gre w up is the same as my DAD. They just didn't express their love as we do today. PEACE

Kinda similar to Cowher's situation in 2006. Chuck Noll and his staff knew how to develop talent

I thought it was interesting that Mrs. Noll said, in that piece, that after 1980, he told her, "We are old, we don't have high draft picks, and it's going to be pretty rough here for a while." He was fully aware that, after the glory of the 1970's, that they were not going to be very good for a while, and he was right. But as I pointed out previously, the 80's were bad compared to the 70's, but overall, they still had a better decade than many teams do, continuously. They had four playoff seasons, and won two playoff games. Can the Browns make this claim since the late 80's? No, they cannot.

Cowher followed up with 6 straight playoff seasons to start his career, 6 in a row. Not to beat a dead horse, but by the time Noll hung it up, he did re-build the team for Cowher to coach. Among those players Cowher inherited were:

Woodson
Lloyd
Lake
NOD
Foster
Hoge
John Jackson
Love
Dirt
Haselrig
Tunch
Gerald Williams
Hardy Nickerson
Little
DJ
Perry

Not exactly chopped liver.

He did leave Cowher something to work with, no doubt. Perry though was a '92 draft pick (Cowher's first draft, 8th round) and Love was a FA signing that year. Other guys I can think of are Justin Strelzyck, Ernie Mills, Jerrol Williams, and D.J. Johnson. The cupboard wasn't bare.
