A free agent next season, he'll likely get an offer from another team. I don't think he will be quite as good as a starter on another team, as he will be without coach Munchak and DeCastro playing next to him.

However give the man props, he has for the most part filled in nicely for Gilbert. A nice 3rd tackle, the type that you can win with if a frontline player goes down. I used to worry a bit when he had to play. Not so much anymore.

And Hawkins is there to step in so we don't have to lose our minds about a backup RT...

Hubbard seemed to have a rough start, but leveled out some. It could be that the plays have been called/designed to hide some of his deficiencies, too.

Definitely a good player to have as a back up. I don't know that he has shown enough to get starter money somewhere.

We got lucky sometimes when you got to the cupboard we find out there is none. Be he is good

Duplicate and it wasn't funny the 1st time

He's a walk free agent. Hawkins moves up the depth chart and we draft more depth in the mid-rounds.

Hawkins is MIA this season. Has he even taken a snap? Hawkins did not have a good cam either. If Hubbard leaves in free agency, the Steelers will be either drafting a tackle in the mid rounds, or signing a veteran free agent.

I noticed that Hawkins has seen some more playing time with Gilbert out. I think he is filling Hubbard's TE/xtra T slot,... pretty quietly I might add
I need to check that out,

No less authority than Pro Football Focus ranks Hubbard the 38th best tackle in the NFL. Assuming they are close to the mark, this means Hubbard is one of the best backs up in the game. That's how I see it.

However he is 26 years old, and playing well enough where some foolish team might make him an offer that exceeds the Steelers.

He was active and received snaps vs Green Bay. Looks like he finally passed Fieler on the depth chart:

Chris Hubbard also had a great game:

I don't watch enough tackle play to judge, but, maybe, recent play puts him up to 38. Season's start wasn't that high, I don't think.

It is true that there is always someone willing to overpay.

Hubbard seems coachable and knows his limitations. He's got a great coach in MM. Playing next to DeCastro helps too. By no means will he ever beat out Gilbert, but he fits the next man up, capable of doing the job without hamstring the offense. If you watch him he's good enough to get in the way, but he's a power blocker or good enough in pass protection to be left alone vs the better ends.

I could see a team with a good, but sometimes injured staring tackle overpaying a bit for his services.
