Chiefs Release Eric Berry

He’s worth kicking the tires on. Would look great in black and gold. Could provide defensive leadership in the secondary along with Haden.

I honestly don't pay much attention outside of the Steelers anymore; why was he released? Injury, contract, performance?

injury history.

torn ACL
achilles
heel

Chiefs are gutting their defense - Berry, Ford, Nelson, Houston gone. Not that the defense was good last season, but they seem to be dumping the best players from that part of their team.

Depends on who you believe. But supposedly his year long injury didn't warrant surgery. Was reported something he could have played through, but didn't.

I am just going to go out on a limb and say, pass.

Injuries had him hobbled last couple of years

This was an expected move after the Chiefs signed Tyrann Mathieu to a record-breaking contract earlier in the week. It just made no sense to commit close to $30 million in cap charges to a pair of safeties.

The Chiefs, however, will have to eat the money somehow. They decided to do it with a post-June 1 designation, clearing over $9.5 million in cap space while taking on $6.95 million in dead money this year and $8 million in 2020.

The Chiefs are expected to move away from Sutton’s 3-4 scheme in favor of a new 4-3 base system under new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo .

I'd personally kick the tires.
I still feel the young pups on defense need another "leader" on the defensive side.

But isn't berry a true FS? Who would play close to the LoS? Edmunds? We need more of a Mathieu than a Berry.

Berry is more effective near the LOS. Good run supporter as well. Can make a splash play but has also shown to be a liability at times in coverage. When he's healthy, he's one of the best S in the game imo.

At this point, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him aboard. Any kind of reinforcements would be welcome lol

I take Berry and his leadership over Burnett any day.
One does everything in his power to make it back to play in the NFL and is humble as hell the other just wants out of town.

I'm on this boat but ONLY if Berry isn't a high cost investment as HIS play / injury needs a little improvement and maybe the change of scenery would be the spark needed.
