Please tell me one time that we were able to stop a pass to Gates over the middle? I just don't understand how you don't run that play every play until the Steelers stop it. I just don't see how Pittsburgh would stop it. Just how the Steelers run the counter out of all those different formations. Gates had a first down on almost all of his receptions.

For the most part Rivers through short passes or hit the check down receiver. He had some down field plays but most of them appeared to be short passes. We definitely struggled covering the TE. Lucky for us Gates didn't totally kill us.

I honestly thought I was about to have an aneurysm from all those short middle tight end throws

That was an easy ' read ' for them, they just saw how pathetic some of our db's were at tackling and decided the short pass was the way to go.

There were some guys running wide open down the field. Glad the pressure caused some bad throws or it might've been a different game.

TEs constantly kill us. It has happened for several years. You would think they would do something to fix it. Most times or seems the TE is just left uncovered. Should have a spy at all times. It was good to see decent pressure, but their oline is terrible. If Rivers had just a bit more time, i think we would have got destroyed. I do like the fact the D is being agressive at least.

Yea, I think Keenan Allen a TD (or close to it) on the drag route late but Timmons either batted the ball down or Rivers hit him with it due to pressure. Gruden showed the replay and Allen was wide open and had running room. There is no pass defense better than constant quarterback pressure to give him the yips.

It is over simplified to say "why can't we cover that. You have an experienced QB and TE who have worked together for years and they are making sight adjustments at the line of scrimage. Why can't a defense stop Ben and AB.

Party pooper!

Look, the Te is the easiest position to get a favorable matchup with a LB covering them, its also one that gets left open on blitzes often. most defensive coverages built for them are meant for short distances with pressure getting to the QB before they can get too far down the field... a pass catching TE presents tons off coverage issues.. its why miller is frequently open, despite the fact he is the last read most every play. freak mismatch guys like Gates and Gronk are just downright uncoverable by everyone...

Shazier is supposed to stop that - when healthy.

Well I don't really know about that. The ILB have to cut off the slant to the slot/ wr. and the deep hook to both. If they left too early they would vacate that zone. That is how zone defense works.

You would have thought one of the linebackers would have caught on and jumped the route when it was done over and over, had to have been the play that gained the most yards for the Chargers.

He ran out 5-6 yds and turned around. You're tellin me Butler couldn't make some kind of adjustment toward that?

It was thw same with Danny Woodhead. Little bugger was averaging 13 yards a catch. Terrible.
