It appears that the Los Angeles Chargers will be moving on from longtime quarterback Philip Rivers in 2020. After 17 seasons with the franchise, the team will reportedly move in a new direction as far as the quarterback position is concerned, per FOX’s Jay Glazer.

The writing was on the wall for Rivers’ departure and it became even more clear when the 38-year-old announced that he was moving from his longtime home in San Diego to Florida.

Rivers has spent all 16 seasons of his career with the Chargers franchise and has totaled 59,000 yards and 397 touchdowns during his career.

So if ben doesnt come back......

what if we just sign him and then trade both he and Ben for like two number one picks, a second and a lifetime supply of Dairy Queen shakes?

That or J-ville. He just bought a home in Florida so I have a sneaky suspicion that it will be one of the two....

Sent from my moto g(7) power using Steeler Nation mobile app

I lean towards Tampa because they have to make the decision about extending and increasing the pay of a young QB that is boom or bust from game to game in J Winston.
Consistency at QB in Tampa could make them a serious contender. Rivers would probably accept a lower price tag for a shot to continue his career close to home and play with that receiving corps.

I just find it difficult to imagine Jaxs in the mix because of the Nick Foles commitment last year and the progression of G. Minshew..... I just think they are more than a QB away from being competitive again
But stranger things have happened.

So if ben doesnt come back......

I take a bowl of hot oatmeal and Philip Rivers and you what, at the end of the day/............ I still have Philip and he's one day older

Salute the nation

PS. If he would sign a 5mil 1 year deal then .............

Salute the nation

Chicago could be a spot for him. Chicago’s coach and GM are on the hot seat. Trubisky has shown glimpses but has mostly underperformed. You bring in Rivers and give Trubisky 1 more shot early then bench him for Rivers like the Titans benched Mariota. With the Bears defense, they could be a factor with a good QB.

What about the Pats? Rivers certainly fits what they do.

Washington could be a good fit. The new staff did not draft Haskins.

Also, what a classless organization. This man has given everything to help you win, playing with major injures giving his heart and soul. If this is how they let him go out...”he’s no longer part of us” that’s ****** up. Sure you can move on, ie see Giants and Eli.

I saw someone posted it on Twitter and many probably are thinking the same thing, but we can all see why Eli didn't want to play there.

I think this is mutual. Rivers refused to move his family to LA. He was commuting every day to LA from San Diego. It was known that was a short term situation.

It's hard to say where he will land because we don't know if he will be a backup. Eli could have easily played a few more years as a backup. You have Brady, Rivers and Cam Newton all making that same decision. You figure Brady is absolutely in the camp or starter or nothing. What about Cam and Rivers? Hard to say.

Carolina and Denver both drafted QBs last year and will likely start them in 2020. Probably looking for a veteran backup, not a starter.

Washington drafted Haskins but the new staff is not tied to him.

Are the Jags happy with Foles and Minshew?

Miami likely drafting Tua and starting Fitzpatrick short term until Tua is ready.

Cinci is drafting Burrow. Will they keep Dalton as a backup? Would Rivers like to be a teacher to Burrow? Rivers would probably like the idea of living in Kentucky.

What do the Pats do? If Brady leaves then maybe they want Rivers to make 1 more run at a Super Bowl. Here's another theory. What if they look at what the Ravens did and the Pats try to go option with Jared Stidham and Cam Newton, and maybe Mariota too. They have a good run blocking OL and some good RBs and defense. I don't think that would be a terrible idea for NE in the short term.

The Chargers need a big name. They have no LA fanbase at all and need somebody to sell tickets. Tom Brady seems a no brainer if he's agreeable. Cam Newton would also sell some tickets.

The Colts are not sold on Brissett. Rivers would make a good starter while they develop a drafted QB, maybe Jordan Love or Justin Herbert.

What about Derek Carr and the Raiders? Gruden seemed awfully interested in Kyler Murray last year. What if the Raiders put Carr on the trade block? They have already made some bold moves. Trading Carr and drafting a young QB would not shock me.

This was telegraphed from a mile away... midseason they ejected Whiz, who was clearly Rivers’s guy on that staff... they were not even trying to keep him around....

If Ben couldn't play, I would take him in a heartbeat and it would be a good fit for both sides. The Steelers are in a much better position to contend than the chargers were. That said, there is no way he would fit in the cap unless he was simply playing to try to win a championship.

Guys on NFL radio a while back said Chargers aren't putting butts in seats at the stadium and that putting a new young QB (and other players) would help draw fans in their new place. I call bs..the way you put butts in seats is to win games, but what do I know.

brady is going to LA will take josh to be oc until the hc gets canned and is replaced by josh. I say 2022

I'm here in Los Angeles....We only needed one team. No one here really cares about the Chargers....Not sure if the Stadium will change that. They need a draw...That is why Brady makes sense...
Brady to LA....It's a done deal....

That was the point of what the guys on radio were saying...they need a big name to sell tickets and jerseys, but to be fair, they were pedaling the idea of a sexy new toy in the draft and not a vet. I doubt Brady goes there unless it suits the wife's schedule better and/or the NFL kinda pushes for the reason you state.
