Can Pittsburgh Still Land Rashaan Evans in the First Round?

Like LVE isn't a possible train crash. Small school, competition question marks. Injury question marks. 1 year wonder.

Yeah if he doesn't scream choo choo on a collision course of high risk. Nothing does.

He isn't any less of a question mark than Evans. In fact he presents with more concerns.

He could be. But you can’t teach someone to be 6-4+ 256lbs and still run a 4.65, 40 vert, 10” hands, 34” arms, 124” broad jump etc. I get it he comes from a small school and because of an injury his sophomore year only had one year of production. That’s a risk. But he also didn’t have three draftable (1 top 15 pick) in front of him keeping him clean.

The ol combine stud is a future star theory.

I prefer the ol tape against top competition resulted in multiple years of production against top competition.

Alabama has produced solid NFL LBers. And the D-line doesn't help Lbers get off blocks. Evans showed a decent amount of that ability.

Combine also doesn't measure instincts + heart.

But when the Steelers are checking off boxes they prefer the bigger schools in 1.

Their choo choo travels down that railroad track, more than LVE's railroad track.

Thing is Evans had the groin issue and played with it in the Nat’l championship. He was still recovering from it leading up to the combine. I don’t know what type of grade it was but I would assume it’s the major kind if it’s the reason for not running (Cope can you clarify?) or doing drills. It could be this new mindset that’s starting to emerge about doing private workouts instead of the combine (a agent tactic) so as to control the results. I personally don’t like the tactic, I’d say perform against your peers to solidify your tape. Him passing on the pro days is also curious. I am supposing Evans and his agent has spoken, sidebar, with the teams about his injury. The was also some speculation that Evans re aggravated it prepping for the combine

Sorry Ike, I'm not very versed on LBs. I only do WRs, and sometimes TEs/RBs, and secondary.

I was more or less talking about the groin injury. I recalled you having background in physical therapy or healthcare treatment.

I just find it odd, there is no questioning from any the talking heads about Evans not running. Other than him maybe re aggravating it, no discussion about it at all.

Evans did put up solid numbers run stuffing and even got a few sacks. I said before he’s an ideal buck backer. He runs downhill and fills voids to get the ball carrier. But the need for run stuffing linebackers is limited. We need a Mack backer who can flip his hips and run with a TE. That’s just not Evans game.

LVE has the physical ability to do it in the NFL. He might not be mentally ready but I have not read anything about him not being coach able.

So I guess what I’m saying is I’m never going to teach Evans to be an elite athlete. But I might be able to teach an elite athlete to be an elite LB.

Oh, Gotcha. Soft tissue injuries are a *****. Mitchell had one last year, I don't think he ever recovered, since he kept reaggravating it each week it seemed. For groins, they need rest. It's the only way you heal. Usually 6-8 weeks. I pulled mine once playing hockey, and that is how long it took before I could play again. If Evans went back before that window was over, he probably re injured it. Timing wise it makes sense. If he's been resting since the National Championship game, the combine is too close to be fully recovered. Running the 40 would be out, but I'm surprised he did any COD drills. I see he didn't do the 60yd shuttle, but he did the 3 cone and 20yd. Those would be tough on the groin, so I really don't know the extent of his injury, since I'm seeing conflicting results in his combine performance.

Thanks Cope. Yeah that’s what I can’t wrap my head against. He did SOME drills. What agent would allow a player to do this knowing it could hurt his stock, plus the fact there is an absenteeism of any media report about it....I can only fathom that his agent has spoken to all the teams evaluators about him.
