Might want to do a little checking into Chikillo. His splits at the combine were incredible, Jevon Kearse like and that was with 20 or more pounds, he is now down to 254. His great initial step and motor will be glaring next to the sloooow Jarvis Jones bust.

and he still has an uphill battle to make the 53. His workout numbers are good but 3-4 OLB takes time to learn. The roster numbers are against him. Mauro looked great last year and they couldn't keep him.

Jarvis, Harrison, Moats, Dupree, Timmons, Shazier, Vince WIlliams,

That's 7 locks at LB. Spence is likely safe as #8. If the Steelers are going to keep Chickillo or Lemon or Howard Jones as a 5th OLB then they had better be a special teams demon. Or they better impress so much that they keep him over Harrison or Moatsas the 4th OLB. That seems unlikely.

All good points I just think he is going to be too good to try and stash

I wished Jarvis, but i won't lat any bets on it.

Im going with Howard Jones... had his college been anything but Shepard or if that draft wasn't absolutely chock full of defensive talent he is a mid round pick and got a bigger look last year. I think as a pure pass rusher he has serious talent and if he has developed at all elsewhere is going to make some noise. I think he has camp phenom written all over him.. right down to playing a sort of stacked position that some bum with a better pedigree will probably beat out

Sometimes learning the position is not the deal, Jarvis has been in it long enough to learn it but that seems to make no difference. He has no strength speed or moves but other than that he seems like a project, Why not keep a project that has speed and moves and strength vs one that does not. At this point one could only make ones self look dumber by keeping a first round pick longer than he should and at the expense of better talent. Jarvis had nothing to do with where he was picked, it was not his fault he was picked earlier than he should have been. Do you think that if he was a 6th round pick and produced exactly what he has to this date he would still be on the team?

No, he would have been cut if he was a 6th rounder because he showed nothing as a rookie.

I'm not saying it's right. It's just the way it is. He's a first rounder. Maybe. Maybe if he had not been injured and played 2 full bad seasons and then had a 3rd mediocre preseason, then i could see him being cut if a young guy looked good. But he missed a lot of time and that means they are still probably looking at him as a 2nd year guy.

If you ever watch Hard Knocks, you will see that every year, no matter what team, the last few roster spots are determined by the special teams coach. Each time, a position coach is pissed to lose a guy he likes in favor of a less talented player who can run down on kicks.

It's always a double edged sword with late draft picks. You want them to look good but not too good. If they look too good and you don't have a roster spot for them, then you have to practice squad them and lose them. Exactly what happened with Mauro.

I like Chickillo. That is why i am rooting for him to look good on special teams.
