Who will be this year's camp phenom? The young player who breaks out.

I'm leaving Martavis off the list because he seems like the pretty obvious choice. I'm also going to leave off Tuitt, Shazier, and Dupree because they were pretty high picks who are supposed to be good. I will put Jarvis on there because he has struggled so much. I'm going to include Golson as well because he was a controversial pick.

Which underdog or disappointing vet will breakout?

I voted Chickillo for two reasons:

1. He is a talented pass rusher drafted in the lower rounds. Those guys do well in camp.
2. He will be battling the Steelers RT in camp, and that position is not a strong one for the team.

Shazier had flashes last year that made me think with a offseason with some added strength, etc. he could be the camp phenom that carries that into a solid season of play. For him to be worthy of that lofty draft status he needs to be...................

I don't have that kind of foresight to spot a potential breakout player but I know who I'd like to see burst onto the scene..... Alejandro Villanueva, he's got the prototypical size for a Tackle and we could sure use a backup plan at LT

My choice here would be Shamarko, I'd love to see him turn into a seek and destroy safety. He may not be an underdog but there have been a lot of questions about his future.

I voted for Uncle Jarvis. I know he's in his third camp but I think this could be the year all the lights come on for him. I would not be a bit surprised to see him have a huge camp. He has to know this is a make or break season for him and that the team could be losing patience since they can only go so far with a player before its time to move on. I think the talent is there he just has to stay healthy and show it.

Hard to say. According to Kim Wexell, Kevin Fogg has looked better than Golson or Grant so far. I would have voted for Coates as he has blown by some Steeler DB's already, but he's not listed.

I'm going with Bud Dupree

Shazier was my original choice when I saw the thread, but since you left him off, I'm going with Shawn Lemon

I went with Holliman because if they can teach him to wrap up at all and take better angles while tackling he could be a breakout star. He obviously has the hands and coverage skills so lets see what Lake can do with him.

I'm going with Golson. He is a ball hawk and has great hips. He struggles against big (6'4 or taller) WRs but he is prefect for the Steelers zone defense maybe playing the slot WR. Yes, I'm a bite of a homer but the kid can play. If he were taller he would have been a much higher pick.

I think any of the rookies, including Walton, who seems to be the forgotten pick, can be the camp phenom. But, for the purposes of this poll, I'm going with James. I think he'll be given every opportunity to show that he can/will be Heath's heir apparent. I think he has the talent and willingness to take coaching that will solidify him in as exactly that.

It seems sir we are in 100% agreement on this one, I can not say it better than you did.

Watched Gholson play his whole career at Ole Miss. He will be a good player...

I have a hard time taking anyone with more than two years of experience or drafted higher than the fourth round for camp phenom, so I went with Shawn Lemon. He steadily improved over his four years at Akron and has professional experience, just not in the NFL. He was productive last season with 13 sacks and eight forced fumbles. I know it isn't the NFL, but it is a step above college football and that should have him better prepared than some of the younger guys.

Gives them additional experience sure. I am ok with the statement as long as you aren't including talent level in comparison. I don't think you meant talent level whatsoever.

I would love Shawn to be a camp surprise as that would be a nice problem to have.

On the inside Jordan Zumwalt will be fighting long odds in a crowded position. But I heard some good things about him. So he will be a interesting watch as well.

You are correct, just talking about a professional level above the college game.

I'm the same way and look at guys drafted later or undrafted as possible camp phenoms.

i probably should have left Golson off the list. High picks aren't really the point of camp phenom. I only included him because he seemed like the most controversial draft pick. I guess he was only controversial to drafkniks.

I'm surprised bu the Chickillo love. I like him but he's probably a project. He may have to make the team on special teams. I hope so because i'd hate to lose him like Josh Mauro last year.

This still pisses me off because we kept Cam Thomas last year and are entering this year with Thomas still on the roster and ZERO depth at defensive end.

Might want to do a little checking into Chikillo. His splits at the combine were incredible, Jevon Kearse like and that was with 20 or more pounds, he is now down to 254. His great initial step and motor will be glaring next to the sloooow Jarvis Jones bust.
