Cam gets in. Especially if he has still another good to great year.
So I have read a metric ton of stuff from various hall of fame voters.. while there arent any universal rules on what the criteria is to get in, there are some general criteria they follow
There are seven general components with a lot of nuances;
1. Statistical. This is measured both in all time standing and era specific standings, because season length, rules and strategy changes frequently, and some stats havent been tracked through all eras...
its important to note that stats arent everything here though. Guys get in with subpar stats for a lot of reasons.. some guys with hall worthy stats dont get in at all...
2. Winning. This probably plays a smaller piece than one thinks, but it does play a role. Its most evident in QBs, but there a non insignificant amount of guys with Hall worthy stat lines who aren't in but also have bad records..
football is often viewed as a team sport, and some voters don't take regular season records or championships into account, but not being a difference maker in wins and losses is a huge red flag to other hall voters.. if a guy doesn't have exceptional credentials in other categories, being a perennial loser can tip the scales away while being a winner can get them in..
3. Playoff production. This is sort of the first two merged together, but it absolutely matters. Lynn Swann is in because of what he did in playoffs and super bowls... Marty Schottenhiemer is out because in the playoffs, his teams wilted...
4. Lasting Legacy in the game. This encompasses everything an individual did that changed the NFL going forwards.. it could be a coaching strategy, a player changing the way a position is played, or even being the body prototype the league would shift to going forward.. so, for instance, Dermontti Dawson eradicated the idea that bigger centers couldnt be agile enough to play the position him playing Center and pulling like he did at 290 ish was the transition player to the modern 300 lb center.
5. iconic moments. The immaculate reception, the Drive,Even special highlight reel plays... these can get a player or coach over the top. Ask Joe Namath... he isnt in the Hall without his iconic super bowl win...
6. Accolades and Awards. pro bowls, All pros, All decade teams, player of the year awards, MVPs.. these show how the player was viewed during their career.. more importantly it shows how they were viewed BY THE MEDIA, who are the very voters that elect HOF members.
.. I think there is only 1 eligible six time all pro not in the Hall... 4 or 5 all pros and you likely get in...
7. The Narrative.
This is the entire story around the player... challenges overcome in life like injuries, life hardships, or even as simple as going undrafted. It includes themes like a player being " the most feared" or best at "insert skill here"... it also encompasses other stuff related to football but not from on field play, like disciplinary measures, legal issues, locker room stuff...
So in a couple years the Narrative factor for Antonio Brown will be huge... that same stuff kept Terrell Owens out of the hall for an excessively long time despite having amazing stats for his position...
On the flip side, Kurt Warner got a gold jacket because of his Narrative and being part of the iconic " Greatest show on Turf " teams... he only had like six great years, 3 with St louis and 3 in Arizona, with a bunch of injury years that werent good between them... but hey he was signed to a tryout while bagging groceries at 27 years old and went on to win a super bowl
