According to Rapoport‏, Heyward’s previously scheduled 2017 salary cap charge has dropped from $10.4 million to create more than $3 million in salary cap space.

Seems like we aren't done making moves?

We have to make sure there is extra space after Tuitt is signed, just in case there is an injury or two..

TEAM player that Cam is..... I've always admired the unselfish players whom have taken cuts for the betterment of their team. That is all except t*mmy b*y as he gets "health & nutrician" benefits shoved his way under the radar. Now on to signing Mr. Tuit.

well to be fair it does benefit them too with money/signing bonus thrown in their face

they aren't having to wait until Tuesday for a hambugah today

That's one reason why Heyward is the team Captain on Defense.

I think Tuitt is a good player, but I worry the Steelers might pay him like a very good to great player.

His stats dropped in tackles and sacks by a noticeable margin from 2015 to 2016.

If Heyward is worth about 10.4 million a year, maybe Tuiit is worth about 7 million a year.

To see what the players are getting these days, I recommend over the cap.

Coach, Tuitt is coming into his own as a GREAT player. The reason his stats were down is because he didn't have Heyward on the line with him. With both of them healthy, along with a more experienced Grave Digger, this line is going to be fantastic.

Agreed, need both of them healthy for either to be great. It's not a coincidence Heyward's sack numbers went up once Tuitt entered the picture in 2014.

I hear you we have a very good DL player in Heyward and two good ones in Hargrave and Tuitt. I just do not want to see Tuitt getting 10 million a year as he's not worth it. I would not call Tuitt a great player, and I read the DL coach rides him hard.

7 million a year would be fair, this way we can afford to spend money elsewhere. If his agent is asking for 10 million a year or more he'll be over paid and you do not want to have many of those types ( I think Mitchell is way over paid ) as it limits what you can do with the salary cap.

The Steelers finally have their salary cap under control and it allowed us to add quality veteran free agents like Haden and McDonald, plus Alalu.

You are all over the place with this comment.?You seem to under value Heyward and Tuitt but over value Chickillo.

Coach Mitch is a Bear Bryant disciple, and pushes all of his players hard. Expects the best out of them because he knows how good they can be...see Seals, Steed, Roye, Smith and Hamp Hoke, Kimo as examples. Cam is one of the dominant 5T in the game, and some evaluators think Tuitt will be better.

What you THINK you know about cap and worth for players is like everyone else. Pure guess work. You say the FO has finally got their cap under control (they have for a couple years now) while drumming them at the same time for other moves, yet...they have done all this WITH Tuitt's current cap hit.

There really is no sacrifice on the players part when they restructure like this. They get paid bonus today rather than waiting for paychecks on a later date.

What in the world are you talking about? I think Chickillo is a decent backup, okay on special team, Better than Jarvis Jones as a starter, and very cap friendly. That's what I think. Hardly over valuing. Please think again before brining up your mistake.

I also think until recently the Steelers had very little cap space to sign other teams veteran free agents or high profile cut players. Example: Haden. Do you want to debate that? Cap under control meaning what? Under the cap, yes, well planned, see dead money on Woodley, Scobee, and others plus giving a player like Timmons who is very good 15 million a year likely making him perhaps the highest paid player on defense for that season!

I think Heyward is a very good player, good enough to play in a pro bowl or two, but far from ALL PRO Status. And he's the team captain.

I think Tuitt is a good starting DL player, but not as good as Heyward and worry the Steelers might offer him 10+ million a year. He's not that good! Some think he will be better than Hayward? List the names please.

Here we go.....

The mistake is your ramblings of opinions and no factual data. The response was in reference to your historical assumptions of various players.

You have previously opined Chickillo was inline to be a starter and beat out everyone, Jones, Harrison, etc, ad nauseam. Refute that. He never once beat out Jones, regardless of how bad he was. 92 replaced him, not 56. Since he has been more or less a role player you have since cooled on your value of him as of late. So there was no mistake in my statement.

Until recently about cap space? FO always has spent close to the cap. If we at go back to the uncapped year FO has always followed the practice of pay their own players first and then dabble in FA. Obviously, they missed on Green, but the contract was cap friendly and only guaranteed the first year. Debate on Haden? You have nothing to debate with. He was cut, Steelers signed him to basically a one guaranteed contract. Scobee? Give me a break you are talking about a kicker. His DM was peanuts. Woodley? That's part of the business, when they signed him he was ascending. Unfortunately, conditioning wasn't. Who thought he would decline so fast.

Timmons? He was on his final year. Nowhere else to go except cut him and not have your starter ILB. So have no idea why you bring him up.

Agree to disagree with you on your view of both Cam and Tuitt. Their scheme doesn't make them as attractive as other DL you THINK are better. In this scheme they are superior.

As well as what you think a players worth is. FO has been more successful than you so if you have proof, submit it.

To be fair, Chick should have had more starts than Jarvis, and he is still on the team, so we have that going for him as well.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly. In fact had FO dropped Jarvis a year sooner I think 56 would have more involvement in this defense. He has gradually improved with the opportunities given. He has a higher ceiling than Moats in my opinion, but the opportunities haven't been there for him. Had he exploded subbing for 48 last year, doubt TJ would have been drafted.

Like to think it is done tonight or tomorrow at latest but if all the negotations are in place I guess there is no stress for Tuitt.

Tuitt was the best defensive player on the field this preseason and it really wasn't close.

I'm ' hoping it gets done so full focus can be on team and play.. As for who is the better of the two, watch real close and see who is schemed against. Which one is being doubled & chipped more....??? As the season progresses it's going to be hard for teams to scheme both. I hope they both are injury free so we can see a whole season of play with both on the field as that gives both them better shots at doing what they do.

Everyone already acknowledges Tuitt will get the same, if not more, than Heyward. That is the market for one of the best at his position and he is and he is getting better. They damn well better sign him today or tomorrow.
