By: Michael Stiffler, @Stiffeezy_ on Twitter SteelerNation.com   This is not the type of news Steeler Nation needed heading into the weekend. Reported first by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Cam Heyward doesn’t feel confident where he and the Pittsburgh Steelers stand on a contract extension.*   Heyward’s agent Michael Perrett explained “I thought we’d be further […]

I feel pretty comfy a contract will get done. There is still time to accomplish it.....

I feel the Steelers have backed themselves into a corner with dodging the salary cap by pushing off wages. Now once those chickens are coming home to roost, the World Wide Pandemic will most likely end the last best hope season and for sure put the team in a much worse Salary Cap situation. Big sacrifices will have to be made including most likely Juju and Heyward to keep TJ and Fitzpatrick. With the only relief coming from moving to a much cheaper QB, be it a low priced second contract on Rudolph or a cap friendly first round pick. Rebuild is in the air and I don't believe Tombert should lead it.

have heard mar may be the next gm, that Colbert might be kept,
Perhaps to keep juju restructure vince or cut him if gilbert shows he can be the guy. in the pt he gets. also would have to let av go replace with a rookie and a short term plug in like Soldier or a vet that can be a patch up.

I know CAM is very important to this DEFENSE overall. He is to the front line as Minka is to the secondary. His contract will get done but I'm thinking last minute time frame. This Pandemic is definately causing problems along with the STEELERS being all inj and maxed out on everything. This is SBWHCMVLT's dream team and anything short of NON-pandemic caused super bowl should be considered a failure.

If it gets done it gets done. If not let him sign where he gets more money. Apparently that is the sticking point. Steelers always offer fair contracts to their core guys. Whether they accept the offer is a different story all together.

If they sign Heyward, I don't see them signing Vila, Connor, or JuJu next year. Connor and Vila were probably gone anyway. And, it will be difficult to sign Watt, who is going to get well over $20 million per but Watt is by far the No. 1 priority. We can't afford to pay more than one with the cap dropping so much for next year. Ben is taking up over $40 million of the $175 million cap. Do you keep a 32 year old Heyward (once his current contract is up) at probably $15 million per? I don't think they will have the cap to do it. They may have to wait until next year to sign him to see what shakes out this year.

The whole salary cap issue comes down to Ben. They took out second and third mortgages on his contract. It pushes him to 41 million ****** dollars next year. So the choice is to Play him at 41 million and be done with it. cut him and pay 22 and be done with it. Or remortgage again and be on the hook for another 22 the year after. That is just **** planning. This team is just going to have to take its medicine for all the times some of you said "The Steelers always find away to get under the cap". hope you all don't finance your life that way.

And yet they would've been fine if the pandemic didn't happen...

I wouldn't spend too many cycles worrying on it. The pandemic is going to change things but it is going to change things for everyone. If the cap goes down next year as projected due to Covid, really good players will get cut and their market value will be very low since teams won't be able to sign them. Teams don't want to gut themselves and leave that kind of talent on the open market. My guess is the agreement they came to on the CBA this year is just that - this year. Once the season is over and they all know the impact to revenue, some sort of deal will get hammered out to protect both teams and player salaries. Both sides have powerful motivators to come back to the table when this season is done.

I am not very fast, strong or athletic. But I am willing to play for the vet minimum.

I thought Cam was concerned about humor on this site.....but really, he is thinking about money, his money?

I'm shocked, like Cap. Renault in Casablanca.

hmmm give me the money and I will figure it out.

there are going to 5-7 good OT to choose from that have top 10- mid rnd 2 we can draft someone and sign a vet like Solidior as insurance and let AV go, to keep Cam, give tj the max. And a shot a trying to keep juju and perhaps conner.

Conner will have to be low dallar because Snell can do near as much at lot less cost (still rookie contract) and seems to be more durable.

Conner may be a cap casualty regardless of season performance. ONLY so much peanut butter in the jar
