Burns vs Brown

The Steelers came back to the Oklahoma blocking drill for wide receivers/cornerbacks for the first time in a while. Tomlin made sure to get a close look at Burns. Tomlin liked a couple and didn’t like a couple. At one point, he was heard yelling, “Get rid of his (butt).” The next rep, he did just that to Coates.

• Coates had some trouble in the Oklahoma drill as he got tossed to the side by both Burns and Brian Allen.

• I keep harping on this, but Burns is one of the more physical corners the Steelers have had in some time. He’s not afraid to jam people at the line and bump them all over the field. I’m not saying he’s Mel Blount kind of physical, but he can thump with the best of them.

• And if Burns wants to be physical, Brown is the one to do it with. The second part of the Oklahoma drill featured press man coverage — the receiver beating it and the corner jamming. Burns jammed Brown hard, but during coverage down the field, Brown tends to yank the jersey of defenders to create separation. He did that to Burns on this play and Burns wasn’t happy. “That’s all he wants to do, that’s all he wants to do.”

BURNS is the real deal and I want him to do better than well. Coates is being tossed like a rag doll..................... but still probably makes the team.

And we need Burns to be great, great enough to roll the coverage to the other CB, who isn't so great.

I want to say that D could benefit from a better ball-hawking FS and a better corner opposite Burns.

Don't get me wrong Ross can do a solid job, but we know he is somewhat limited.

Hopefully next year one if not both positions mentioned are addressed high in the draft.

I think that D will be a better version, but I know Burns is a key component to that.

We will need to see growth from him in his second year, and I think we will.

Good points slash and the comment about " D could benefit from a better ball-hawking FS", is spot on IMO. We haven't had a thief back there since the early Troy days. Team history is replete with ball hawking safety's but recently we have been stuck with late arriving thumpers.
