I don't think ARII hurt our negotiating by saying what he did. If for some reason, only one was allowed to trade for AB then yes, he ****** it up, but there were 31 teams that could've traded for him, the Raiders call and offer a 3rd and a 5th, and not one other team called and made a better offer? Obviously no one else wanted that douche very bad, that had zero to do with ARII saying we are going to trade him. What he said didn't stop Arizona from offering a 3rd and 4th, then the Redskins offering a 2nd, etc. No one wanted him!

I was completely in favor of how they handled Bell. They didn't back down and he lost 14.5 million and a year of his career. That "saving wear and tear on his body ****"... ya, he's a year older. There's no changing that.
Brown - I don't know any reasonably intelligent people who are blaming any of Brown's **** on Ben. Now Tomlin let this boil fester until it exploded all over the place. He lacks the ability to reign in his superstars and this is where that gets you. I agree with Tom that the true anchor and backbone of the team is Roehtlisberger. And I have no doubt he can make due with whatever he has on offense. The Steelers have NEVER performed up to their papers on offense. I can only assume they will continue to play mediocre offensive ball given the talent they have. They just have less talent now. So one can assume instead of averaging 26 pts a game (their average over the last 3 years), they may average 20 to 21. I can totally see that.
The issue is, since the Steelers very likely can't be counted on to reliably score 24+, one has to hope the defense can continue to hold the other team in the ballpark of 21 (Their average points surrendered over 3 years). As you can see, that leaves a razor thin margin for victory. Tomlin's sacred 9-7 / 8-8 is starting to look a little harder to attain.
Ultimately, on paper the Steelers offense took a pretty big hit with this trade. It will be very interesting to see what they average per game next season. That will be the truest measure of Brown's contribution. Yards won't matter. T.O.P. may matter slightly if it helps the defense surrender fewer points but at the end of the day, it will be up to the Steelers to average 26 points or better if they want to demonstrate that the loss of Brown wasn't significant. I doubt they do that without another receiving threat that can take pressure of JuJu. But we'll see.
Ultimately, the only way to salvage this debacle is to somehow get significantly better on defense. Which, of course, is Tomlin's specialty.

I have to agree, this is clearly an ownership decision on how they want to run their team and what is important to them. I don’t really blame Colbert, he was just doing what ARII wanted him to do.
I will disagree, as soon as it became known that the Steelers HAD to move Brown (per AR2's comments), time became the Steelers enemy. Every week that past and got closer to training camp the more everyone knew the Steelers would have to make a move. Everyone was willing to wait it out and let the value continue to drop. Can you imagine what we would have gotten had we had to make a trade the week before TC? We'd be lucky to get a 7th round pick. It was a no-win situation for the Steelers and Colbert to get a good return.
I agree it may have hurt our starting price, but what stopped any other teams from offering more than Oakland? If AB is such a good player like everyone says, why didn't any other teams offer more to try to get him?
Time, all they had to do was wait and his value would go down with each week. Unlike most situations, his value was not going to go up it was going to go down as it became more desperate that a move had to be made.
It doesn't matter. With Tomlin in charge we likely won't see the playoffs. Munchak is gone. That will hurt this team more than anything. Art II looks like he just wants the business to run, collect his cash, and just be a middle of the pack, ho hum team. We are the Pittsburgh Bengals.

Because nothing says WIN more than going from a first ballot HOFer to a never-won-**** QB on a perennial 4-12 team who hasn't won **** in decades.

You are assuming that AB cares about winning. AB would rather have 15 catches for 200 yards and 2TD and lose a game than go 5 catches for 60 yards and win a game. That is who he is.
Oh I understand, 'AB winning' is much different then what the actual term is meant to mean.

Seems odd that the Raiders would be willing to risk $30 million guaranteed on AB, but nothing higher than a 3rd and 5th round pick.

Bell played in the passing era, Sanders, Smith, Walter, etc did not. Teams do not line up to stop the run anymore, and it's much easier to throw the ball. DeAngelo Williams and James Connor came in and produced just like Bell did.
AB hasn't done **** in games without Ben.
Look at your username, he's a huge reason they put up those numbers.
Conner is our #1 RB. Plus, we seem to be able to find WR talent in the draft.

WR and OL drafting is OK, at least we have still have that, so draft 3 more WRs to be on the safe side, theres a Limas Sweed in every bunch

One of the pettiest moves we could make, and one I thought we should. Ranks up there with the Spurs sending Kawhi Leonard to Toronto and their high taxes. In fact, this whole thing is like the Spurs sending Kawhi to Toronto. Kawhi, like AB, is a star in his league. Now each ****** is in tax exile. Yeah, A ***** is going to get paid, but A ***** is also going to be writing a fat check to the state of Commiefornia for being employed in that state.

1st- The organization did fine handling the Bell situation. Let the dumbass sit and not make his $14.5 million. Now he's an older RB looking to become the highest paid RB by a mile while his replacement actually played better in his 2nd year than Bell did in his last season. **** Bell.
2nd- AB was a disaster. A clusterfuck of epic proportions. Even if coming out and saying they had to move him didn't hurt anything it sure as hell didn't help. Rooney should know as a lawyer to keep your stupid ******* mouth shut. He should have never said a word about any of this. Business as usual should have been the moto. If he had to run his trap he should have said "We expect AB to play for us for the foreseeable future." And leave it at that. Allowing AB to control the situation was a disaster for the Steelers. It makes them look weak and pathetic.

4th- Ben is the only reason this team wins game. Period. Ben will win 8 games a year even with bad play from other positions. This team goes as Ben goes unless the defense gets so bad that even Ben can't score enough points to win.

Even if they get some players they aren't going deep into the playoffs because of a rookie, especially with this defense. They also have ABs $21 million cap hit. It costs them no real money but it still counts against the cap. So don't expect big time FAs to line up either. This could be a difficult few years for the Steelers.

Because clown and his agent made it abundantly clear they wanted a new deal with lots of guaranteed money. Oakland was willing to do that but it pretty much scared everyone else off.

Brown and Rosenhaus tampered a deal with Oakland before any of this ever happened. Brown ensured he got his trade TO Oakland because Gruden and Mayock told Rosenhaus that they'd go ahead and make him the highest paid receiver in the NFL. That is precisely how it went down and Brown got exactly what he finagled himself into.
Unfortunately the Steelers can't hope to replace his production. They can cover some of the deficit, but the reality is they'll lose points per game and the Steeler defense already can barely hold on to a lead.
