Bud Dupree

No, we bashed him regularly as a draft bust his first three years, calling him Durpee or Jarvis Dupree. He magically got much better after Coach Porter was fired.
This, yes he did benefit from having TJ with him, but the OLBers as a whole got better when Porter was fired. And I loved me some Peezy, he just didn't know how to coach different people different ways.

Highsmith will do just fine. He’s progressing nicely and will be a force to deal with in coming years.
Bud I always liked and was hoping the Steelers would draft him. After some growing pains he really came into his own and glad he got paid. There was no way we could pay him and fit him under the cap. Hell, you simply cannot pay everyone so it’s pick and choose. You pay Bud you’re not paying TJ and Minkah. So there you have it!
Happy for Bud and hope he has success in Tennessee except when he plays us,
Watching some film of highsmith being blocked by tight-ends and fullbacks… you will not make it as a rush end in this league if you can’t beat either… watt and Heyward draw all the blocking highsmith needs to get his sack total up, took bud 4 years to get it down I don’t think they will give highsmith that much time he needs to preform now. Not saying they should have paid bud but highsmith so far hasn’t been all that. we have de’s giving us better pass rush right now, this system isn’t designed that way but shows how much of the blocking watt and Heyward are drawing away. Highsmith should be finishing the year with 6 to 8 sacks he’s not near that.

Watched the game last night and he was practically invisible. The Titans D was impressive, but I didn't see Bud much.
Yeah, I was kinda rooting for him, but he didn't sniff the pocket all night.

Highsmith won't get 4 years because the team doesn't have as many years of control of him as they would have if he was a first round pick. That said, for the round he was picked in, and knowing he would need some development, he's doing pretty well. You mention him getting blocked by TEs and FBs. Do you also notice that he draws a fair amount of double teams also? Or that he's been getting decent pressure, just not getting the finish (sack)? Highsmith in year 2 is where Bud was in year 3 to 3 1/2.

Dupree was garbage here. People were fooled into thinking him getting unblocked sacks like Jarvis did in college meant he was finally good. He was still overrunning plays, missing tackles, and awful at edge contain, but had an easier time when Watt emerged.

Kinda like Woodley on the opposite side from Deebo

Woodley had 4 sacks rotating in as a rookie, which was a normal year's production from Dupree. He was immeasurably better than Dupree could ever dream of being, even when he got lazy and fat.

Dupree played 4 years across from Watt, Watt having at least 13 sacks in all but one season (7 as a rookie) and making 3 pro bowls and 2 1st team all pro. Woodley had like double the production while dropping into coverage in LeBeau's scheme 34% of the time.
