Bud apparently missed 2 games ,, but has put up barely pedestrian stats, with one sack thus far.

Ola seems to be doing better.

Bud played himself out of affordability with the Steelers. Dude was BALLIN' OUT. Him and TJ made a GREAT pass rushing duo. Unfortunately for Bud he tore his ACL last December. Trying to make any type of comparison with him in a completely different defense and less than a year removed from major knee reconstruction surgery just isn't fair. It's not even about making the right choice. There was no choice. There is no scenario on the planet that would have kept us from paying TJ. I'll hold out judgement on Bud until next year, not everyone is a freak like Adrian Peterson, some take the entire year it's always been known to fully recover.

Highsmith will do just fine. He’s progressing nicely and will be a force to deal with in coming years.
Bud I always liked and was hoping the Steelers would draft him. After some growing pains he really came into his own and glad he got paid. There was no way we could pay him and fit him under the cap. Hell, you simply cannot pay everyone so it’s pick and choose. You pay Bud you’re not paying TJ and Minkah. So there you have it!
Happy for Bud and hope he has success in Tennessee except when he plays us,

That was the choice I was talking about.

Bud admitted he came back from injury too early. He played his first game in a little over 9 months from when he suffered the torn ACL, which is insane even for the best athletes. Between this and the Steelers being an ideal scheme fit, it's not surprising his numbers aren't great. Like most big money UFAs, he won't last his contract in Tennessee, but a healthy Dupree would've put up good numbers in Pittsburgh.

Randy Gregory finally putting up some stats in his 7th year. 5 sacks in 5 starts. Same draft class as Bud, but he had problems with the Bud...

Highsmith is leap years better than Ola, and is performing better than Bud this year.
I was going to coment the same thing.

Bud had a big injury but we would have been paying for that production for this year with the HIGH salary needed to keep him. We are getting a decent deal on highsith $$$$ and getting decent production for a second year rookie.

I don't regret Bud Dupree leaving. Our defense is still going strong and our OLBs are doing great.

Ola, I have not been keeping an eye on as he is NOT a STEELERS player anymore. I just don't have the time and I focus mainly STEELERS.

Serious injuries just take time for players to get back into a groove. I think Bush and Dupree both suffer in that manner to different degrees. When the Bush isn't what yinz remember you want the Bud to at least be effective. Cheech and Chong say high. Or is it stay high? Anywho

Anyone notice that Bud wasn’t really an issue until TJ came along.

Bud was a raw prospect coming in. On top of this, the Steelers played him on his weaker side and did not rush him much early in his career. After Watt's rookie year, they switched both defenders to their stronger sides and began to rush them significantly more, really to the point where they played more like 4-3 DEs than true OLBs in a 3-4 defense.

I don't care about Bud Dupree. He isn't on our team.

Me either until IF we play them, then I want him to fail worse than year two here (not injury).

Could be a chance we see him the POs if they make it that is.

Dupree is gone. Hope he does well (because I am not going to wish bad on someone because they made a business and personal decision not to stay in Pittsburgh) but don't really care either way. Except when we play him ... then I hope he is great and we still punch em in the mouth.

Not sure why some folks are down on Highsmith. He is only in his second year and has made significant contributions in both his first year and this year and looks to be maturating at a rate that you would gladly hit the "pick" button on if you knew it before you drafted. I mean, what was Jarvis Jones or Bud Dupree doing their first two years?

Well Jarvis is doing about the same now as he was then. Not much. He recently tried "if I am not on time get your pizza free delivery", driving. But got fired because he always arrived late.

Who's bitching about Highsith,........... Remember he was injured earlier this season. Bud Dupree didn't do **** till into season 3. He really burst in season 4 but I do think TJ WATT had an influence in that.

I think Highsith will exeed the BARR Dupree set.

I don’t think the decision was between Watt and Dupree ever. I think the decision was made when Bud hurt his knee and the Steelers knew any contract would be for 2022 play not 2021. Highsmith has played ok but not great. What’s he have 1 or 2 sacks. But he’s playing better and growing. I think he has potential but at this point a healthy Dupree was better.

LOL...like your confidence, but realistically it should be " If both of us make it."

Realistically speaking, you live in your world and I live in Mine. I stated the way I see it.

No, we bashed him regularly as a draft bust his first three years, calling him Durpee or Jarvis Dupree. He magically got much better after Coach Porter was fired.
