By: G.Stryker,*Twitter @SNStryker and Instagram @SNStryker SteelerNation.com We have all seen the maturation of Bud Dupree over the past five seasons as a football player. Each year he has increased his tackles, quarterback hits, and playmaking. Dupree has been a polarizing player for Steeler Nation to debate over his career, but one thing is undeniable; […]

I wouldn't bet my house on it but I'm thinking this is BUD's last year as a STEELERS player. He will go to some other team for the BIG paycheck and then fade as a distance memory never to surpass his play here.

Keep in mind that I don't hold any ill will towards any player who leaves for greener pastures and by that I mean Mo-money.!! These guys ONLY have a small windo of earning power and they must do what they've gotta do after all there is no loyalty in the NFL anymore.

NICE to wittness the humor. !!

Thanks "G" for the insight

The second we franchised him meant it was going to be his last season here.

Decisions have to be made around the salary cap. Giving a guy who seemed somewhere between bust and starter a big longterm deal didn't make sense. The fact that Bud and even Bell never got long term deals with the Steelers had something more to do with circumstances than anything else.

Well they did offer Bell more than he got with the Jets.

That's why I said when they tagged Bud, there wasn't going to be a long term deal, I don't think there was ever really a chance of him getting a long term deal.

I don't think he had a chance either. He wasn't consistent enough early in his career and they have one of the best defenders in the league playing on the other side. There are also too many other good UFAs coming up at the same time. Finally, they took Highsmith in the third with the intention of him starting in 2021.

It's hard for me to get my head around wanting to leave for greener pastures.

Giving anyone almost 16 million should set them for life, but I'd bet he walks next year as well. They may only have a small earnings window, but how big does that window really need to be?

Depends if someone offered you a job that you would be making twice as much and all you would need to do is relocate.... that might be a very tempting offer.

Bell would have never gotten to the point where it did if he hadn't been in the drug policy program. They would have signed him long term on the same schedule as all their star players and he likely takes because at year three-four they look for long term security. They took a cautious wait and see in year three- four which became the tag in 5 and gone in 6. Its worked the same for Bud but the issue was performance.

Remember. most of these guys don't have that college education they went to school for. They also may have come from poverty growing up, so having that kind of cash and wanting the finer things in life, could get you broke real quick. I would love to know the percentage of players that have some type of investment portfolio and a financial plan for when they retire at the ripe old age of in their 30's!
