Browns trying to trade Haden

Tell me again,, why is Cleveland Cutting Him?

Injuries and contract?

Steelers emerge as favorite to sign veteran CB Joe Haden

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the favorites to sign veteran cornerback Joe Haden, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Haden, 28, was released Wednesday morning by the Cleveland Browns. He is not subject to waivers and is free to sign with another team after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Other teams expressing interest in Haden are the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Josina Anderson.

The Dallas Cowboys also have some interest in Haden, but there is concern over the price it will take to sign him and his health, according to ESPN's Todd Archer and Anderson.

"Tons of interest in him," Haden's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter. "He will have a new deal with another team by tomorrow afternoon."

Haden was due to be paid $11.1 million this season. The Browns approached Haden about taking a pay cut but he did not agree to it, a source told ESPN's Pat McManamon. The Browns then sought a trade but ultimately released Haden when they found no partner, a source said.

Haden, who was Cleveland's first-round pick in 2010, has fought through injuries the past two seasons. He missed 11 games in 2015 with a finger injury and a concussion. In 2016, he missed three games and played through two groin issues that required postseason surgery.

In a statement posted on his Instagram account on Wednesday morning after his release, Haden expressed optimism about his future.

Haden, who last went to the Pro Bowl in 2014, was also set to make $11.2 million and $10.4 million in 2018 and '19.

Releasing Haden will cost the Browns $3.2 million in cap space this season and $3.2 million next season. He signed a five-year contract extension in May 2014.

"We want to thank Joe for all he has done for this organization both on and off the field," Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said in a statement. "He has been a great teammate and a true asset to the Cleveland community. These are very difficult decisions, we have the utmost respect for Joe and in my eyes, he will always be a Cleveland Brown."

because they have baseball analytics guys running their team and they believe the only way to build a team is with a shitload of draft picks. That's why they keep trading back in the draft giving up quality for quantity.

They are tanking this year, trying to cut salary and load up on picks. It's also why the rush to start Kizer, who despite reports, did not have a good preseason. They want to try him out to see if they need a QB next year. There are 3 potential top 5 QBs next year.

The browns have done the easy part of rebuilding so far. Stock up on picks and invest in OL and DL. Those tend to be the easiest positions to grade. Much safer picks.

Now they are at the point that they have to start getting playmakers. So far they passed on Wentz and Trubisky.

Haden is not what he was 2 years ago. I would not over pay him but would bring him in work him out and see if a 1 year deal could be reached with a lot on incentives.

So Cleveland spent all their money on a $15M QB. Real freaking smart.

Doubt he will take 1 year deal. Not sure what it would take, maybe 24 mill over 3 years. 7 mil signing bonus, salaries of 4 mil 2017, 6 mil 2018, 7 mil 2019.
Cap hit this year would be 6.33 mil and he would still earn his 11 million. Steelers could actually move to #1 power ranking if he is signed.

He could easily commute from Cleveland, less moving hassle with Steelers.

Yea, I don't think a 1-year deal would get it done. He is in demand and knows he is coveted, so he will want some coin and stability for 3 or 4 years.

Then I pass. No way I give him 11 million up front. He is not what he was plain and simple.

I think the Browns would be paying part of that. $4 mill for this season .

I'm sure the FO has a number and years in mind, and if he doesn't agree to, he will find his number in KC, Indy, Oak or Dallas. MT and KC has to be good salesmen to make it work for them and him.

He isn't going to get a big contract. It will be a one year deal to see what he has left. Then he can break the bank one last time after this season. Bet on himself like Pryor, Jeffery and those guys. A lot of people want him because he should be relatively cheap.

I think we still have around $9M in cap space - anybody is better than the junk we have at CB - sign him!

Joe Haden likely refused to restructure Browns contract. Knew that was his ticket out of town & on to playoff contender.

I hope this story of our Steelers signing him a true! Our DB's are just awful! In an NFL where the emphasis is on the passing game it bothers me how awful our secondary truly is!

Please sign this kid!

Unfortunately, our history of being in bidding wars in not a good one

Joe Haden is entertaining 1year and multi-year offers. Expected to pick a team w/in 24hrs. PIT, MIA, NO, PHI, KC, SF very much in mix

WE are the only true contender! Tell him!

I'll believe what Schefter says, La Canfora is the worst. He is rarely correct with his information.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports free agent CB Joe Haden will visit the Steelers on Wednesday night.

Pittsburgh is first up in the Haden sweepstakes. The Steelers are one of 12-13 teams that have already expressed interest, and it's been reported they're the "favorite" to land Haden. He should have a home in next 24 hours.

All I want to hear is "Welcome to the B&G, Joe Haden!" tonight.

So we either sign him tonight or he's gone. It's going to be tough. I have to think he's going to want to see what several teams have to offer but we'll see.

Steelers scheduled to land in Charlotte in a few hours. Both @RapSheet and I are told Joe Haden expected to meet them there.

The fact that they are meeting him tonight is a great sign plus Steelers reps are flying to Charlotte to meet him. That speaks volumes too. How often do Steelers FO fly somewhere to meet a FA that is released the same day? They definitely are interested. Good stuff. What else are we going to do? It's the best gamble left on the market that we can fit in our cap. Hands down best development of the season!!!!!!!!! God can you imagine if they sign him and he returns to his old self??? We have no excuses whatsoever then. SB or bust and F New England!!!

the Steelers are playing in Charlotte. He is meeting them when they land. Still, it's a good sign we are first up in the Haden Sweepstakes!

If this happens, Brown fans will go nuts! (wah wah wahhh)

Browns paying him $4mil, pay him an additional $4mil this year. 2 year deal, make year 2 payable up to another $8mil with signing bonuses, incentives etc. Maybe throw another 2 million at him as a signing bonus?

On NFL radio, I think they've talked about how good a fit Haden is for every team but the Steelers. Also, they think he won't be very good and aren't too high on him. If he was potentially signing with the Pats, you know damn well they would be saying how good he is and how great they're going to be.
