Browns trading Justin Gilbert to Steelers!

It's the epitome of a very low risk/high reward type move, but I cannot help but chuckle at some of the fireworks setting and champagne popping going on here.

The Browns' do not currently have the greatest credibility when it comes to personnel moves; however, they were willing not only to give up on the kid so quickly, but trade him within the division for a mere 6th round pick for a reason.

They seemed rather convinced that he will not amount to anything of consequence in the league.

I also do not think one can say, "it's just because he was drafted by the Browns," as Joe Hayden was an equally high draft pick that has been a multiple Allpro in the league.

The Browns gave him chances to win a role throughout camp and the preseason, but he never really emerged and last week was placed in the league’s concussion protocol.

His departure means the Browns now have zero of the six players they drafted in the first round from 2011-14 on their roster.

The Steelers are willing to take a chance on Gilbert because they need secondary depth and Gilbert has some athleticism and potential. Gilbert can also return kicks.

Only thing, if you're not good enough to make the Browns then how good are you?

He was supposed and still can be a shutdown starter his career got off to a very rocky start as he was torched by us in that 38-35 win by both Wheaton @ brown, it looks he should of started his career in the slot b/c of where he was drafted that Pettine just threw him in to early and from how he played in 2 years in that regime they never tried to polish him up or correct his error, I hope Lake as of Tomorrow has extensive film sessions and if Burns has no set backs from the camp injury he @ Gilbert duke it out hard to who starts in the slot.

There is no need to throw him in early. Let him and Burns earn it in practice.

OK, I can deal with a 6th rounder in 2018 but there is no guarantee this dude will play this year or even make the team next year. I sure hope he does. Hopefully our coaches and players can kick him in his *** and coach him up. He's been a bust for Cleveland so far.

And I'm not going to blame the Browns for his failures either. They developed Haden just fine. Gilbert has to change and mature..being late to everything is on him..he has to want to turn his career around.

Sorry for my initial exuberance, but I've been dying for the Steelers to get some help in the secondary. ;) I also love the fact Gilbert is still such a young player, I truly think this move will help him restart his career and he can now go about things the right way. He has ALL the tools you'd look for in a shutdown CB. I'm stoked we got him for a friggin 6th round pick, two years from now.

Very smart move. A young guy who has great potential but has so far massively underachieved. He's worth the risk. New franchise=new start.......hopefully.

This is the equivalent of a low seventh rounder traded for him... the Browns seem to be totally cutting ties with the old regime players... thats the kind of move that tends to land steals...

Yeah, definitely worth the risk, but I just would not get my hopes up, as the Browns were willingly to basically throw him in the trash before his 3rd season, which is typically when most defenders enter their primes.

The kid has all the physical and athletic tools, but there's a lot more to it at the NFL level.

He has the talent Gilbert destiny will come down to his maturity. Does he want to be good? Hopefully a chance to play for a winner sparks him

I understand what you're saying, but the Browns need all the talent they can get.

I sincerely doubt that the Browns' new management/coaches would allow biases to cloud their judgement of players, especially those drafted in the top 10 just two drafts ago.

I have ZERO confidence in anything the Browns do, thus I will absolutely keep my hopes up we got a steal in Gilbert.

He's a piece of **** ******* who will ruin team chemistry. A horrible trade. Browns are laughing at us. You should be banned from the board for being so imbecilic.

I see what you did there Pop.

I personally hope he plays on the edge, we have enough undersized corners on this team, and need some size on the edge.

Nice job Colbert.

low risk, potential high reward. To only get a 6th for him does raise a red flag of how bad he really is/was in Cleveland, esp in the AFCN.

I also read somewhere that he had 6 Kickoff TD returns his senior year. If he can be a efficient KO returner alone that would be worth a 6th imo.

Gibert for a 6th round pick is a damn good deal. Under performed as a Brownie, but could reach his NFL potential with us. Good move....at this point.

Were was all this potential with the Browns? The guy is a first round bust that was going to be cut by the Browns. LOL at the excitement over this move.
