Browns trading former first-round CB Justin Gilbert to the Pittsburgh Steelers, per league source. Rare in-division trade. Adam Schefter

Wonder what we are giving up for him? Was the 8th pick 2 years ago.

I'd hope not more than a 4th with possibility to become 3rd based on starts/snaps.

Boy, I hope they didn't give up more than a 4th. Even that, I don't know about. Is he any good? Will he come in and start? If not, no reason for the trade unless it was a late round pick.

Talk about every reason to be motivated for the young man. Gets to play the Browns twice a year.

Just read an article from Cleveland and he wasn't guaranteed to even make the roster so this better be a late round pick (6 or 7). Doesn't sound like a good move at all.

Gilbert will hit the reboot button and restart his NFL career in earnest. Great opportunity for him in the Burgh. We may have our best set of starting CB's in Burns & Gilbert in years. Two young, high caliber CB's on the outside. Who would have thought? Now of course everything is tempered here in the beginning, he didn't show much with the Brownholes. But I love Colbert making this agressive move to shore up the weakest spot on the team. Rock and ******* roll.

They must have seen SOMETHING in him, who knows

ha ha - Browns fans already shivering in fear they made yet another mistake by trading him to a rival

Justin Gilbert - DB - Steelers

Steelers acquired CB Justin Gilbert from the Browns.
The return compensation is unclear, but should be a conditional pick based on how much time Gilbert spends on the 53-man roster. One of the biggest busts of the past five years, the No. 8 overall pick was supposedly having a solid summer before suffering a concussion. The Steelers need cornerback help as much as anyone in the league, but Gilbert is pure depth that will have to move up the depth chart with strong practices.

A little reminder what this kid is capable of...

We had Gilbert very high on our board the year he came out

Guess we just found out slot CB, big play Willie Gay!

This could help by moving a strength into the slot in Gay and keeping Davis out of the slot and focused on developing as a safety as well as giving us some size outside with Cockrell /Gilbert to match up with the bigger WRs. Has the potential to help our secondary on many levels, especially if he can live up to his draft status.

Starting a collection to help him with expenses for changing his last name because Gilbert is not nearly interesting enough to match with the Gay/**** combo

Justin Gilbert Draft Analysis:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/profiles/justin-gilbert?id=2543473

"Understand that (new head coach) Mike Pettine is a former defensive coordinator. He's used to having a shutdown cornerback. He's 6-foot, 202 pounds and ran a 4.37 (40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine). He's the prototype cornerback in today's NFL." -- Mike Mayock

Analysis

Strengths
Outstanding size-speed ratio and athletic ability. Fluid movement skills -- makes it look easy flipping his hips and reacting to the thrown ball. Very good transitional quickness and recovery speed. Superb feet and agility to pop out of his breaks and close on the ball -- explosively quick. Natural interceptor with very good hand-eye coordination, leaping ability and overall ball skills. Very good vision and traffic burst as a returner (six career kickoff-return TDs).

Weaknesses
Is a bit soft-tempered -- not as aggressive or physical in run support as you would expect for his size. Can do a better job shedding blockers. Too often lets teammates arrive first at the scene. Spent time in the doghouse as a young player. Has some growing up to do -- maintains a lockdown corner's ego, at times coasts on his natural talent and is not immune to mental errors.

Draft Projection Round 1 (top 15)

Bottom Line
The most talented cover corner in this year's draft class, Gilbert has size, speed and flexibility to blanket receivers at the next level. Also brings impact ability as a kick returner. Is capable of stepping into the starting lineup from Day 1 and playing at a high level if he adheres to a professional approach to the craft. Could stand to improve in run support.

The #Browns traded former first-round CB Justin Gilbert to the #Steelers for a 6th rounder in 2018, source said.

The Browns gave him chances to win a role throughout camp and the preseason, but he never really emerged and last week was placed in the league’s concussion protocol.

His departure means the Browns now have zero of the six players they drafted in the first round from 2011-14 on their roster.

The Steelers are willing to take a chance on Gilbert because they need secondary depth and Gilbert has some athleticism and potential. Gilbert can also return kicks.

Good God, Colbert should be arrested for highway robbery! Took the Browns to the cleaners. This will sting the Browns for years to come. Fantastic!!!!

I don't think he will play right away on defense but I would give him the KO return role right now

I hope he left his attitude and immaturity in Cleveland

Seriously! Change of scenery to a winning organization is going to do wonders for Gilbert, I think. He has the skills and measures, I think the staff will put him in the slot where he can succeed and it will pay dividends. He will make plays.

Hue Jackson was quoted saying he was sensational during the offseason. So there is definitely hope.

Looks like it cost Doran Grant his spot on the roster......

I find it hard to believe so many scouts were wrong on this guy. I was envious when the Pats stole Mingo.......Now we do it in a position of need.

Nice......

We heard he was in the league's concussion protocol and said, "Gotta get me some of that!"

100% playing contrarian there, think this is a very well played gamble for what we risk. Good job FO
