none of his salary for the next three seasons is guaranteed?
may be why he wants his **** redone.

I'm good with it. He needs to be a Steelers reciever for the rest of his career.

Sets a bad precedent though.

He definitely earned it. Being top WR the last 2 seasons. I say its time to make sure the structure of the contract is on par. Things are going to get real interesting if Big Ben keeps up with these $100 million deals... I see pay days for Bell, Bryant, Tuitt, Boykin, in the next 1-3 years

would be interesting to see how this could be done if our resident capologist were still here.

TY Hilton just got extended for 5 years, 65 millions making it the 3rd biggest contract behind Dez and Demarius.
The guy is good, but that good? I don't think so. AB will be asking for the moon if he uses his stats compared to Hilton

I'm all for it. In fact, every player who ******* about their contract half way through should get a raise too. If we're going to bust the cap let's do it right.

That's my issue...they signed the contract. If they ***** about it, say tough. You signed it. Maybe you guarantee some of it, which I would do.

the guarantee part (some of it) makes sense. the guy deserves it, will make him feel more secure, and is not like we are going to cut him mid season

Depends. If they give him some bonus money, extend him, then give him incentives for the next three years I'd be fine with it. Like give him 6 million bonus, drop his salary to min, ad 1 million dollars for 1,200+ yards each of the next three years, and 1 million for 100+ grabs each of the next three years then when he is in year 4 have his base go to 12+ million so we can either extend at that point, pay him, or release him. I think it's a win win. He gets money up front plus incentives that he can easily earn and the team has him locked up.

Edit.

Heck, put a million more every year for getting 2 or more return TD's, 10+ receiving TD's, and a million more for every pro bowl he makes. If he says he's under paid fine but right now the Steelers hold the cards with three years left so lets keep him motivated.

Don't know if they will do anything for AB this year. He signed his contract in good faith and has outperformed it more than anyone in recent memory. We still have other guys like DeCastro, Beachum and I think Foster is also UFA after this year who will merit new deals.

The only issues with regard to reworking contracts and giving everyone a few more million because some team over payed is we will run out of money before we field a team of 53 players. The other issue is the career ending injury. The dead money issue becomes huge as well. Just think how good these guys would be if they went to Cleveland or some other team to get paid. There are few teams with good qbs. Many of those teams out there were spending below the minimum on cap and had to start paying big money for players so contracts became inflated. You also need to take into account what it costs to build a complete team, if you are interested in ever winning a championship.

He signed a contract WILLINGLY, now be a man and HONOR IT.

I just don't see anything being done this year. According to some guy from NFL network the Steelers aren't interested in negotiating.

He's not sitting out. He's not screwing around at camp. He's performing the same as he has in the past; if not better. I'd say he's honoring his contract. Now, if his agent is doing his job, of course he's going to test the waters and see if the Steelers are willing to renegotiate at this time. It's what I'd expect any agent to do; attempt to further the interests of their client. Also, it takes two sides to set up a meeting. So obviously the Steelers are willing to hold some type of discussion.

Same guy that said Ben was leaving?

There's been nothing stated by the Steelers about setting up a meeting or even inviting Brown's agent to Jacksonville.

He's in camp, so the precedent it sets isn't that bad. The Steelers have all the leverage, if Brown wants the moon and the stars, the Steelers can say "Sorry we couldn't come to a deal" and Brown is stuck with his current contract.

Can you REALLY call it a contract when the guaranteed money runs out? I get that it legally is a contract and but when one party can cut you for any reason but you cannot leave without their permission.......I would hold out when I out performed my existing deal.

If he thinks he is worth the money and can get the money, he should hold out.

I would not let it get to that with AB and I would "extend" him lock in more of the existing money and adding a couple of years.

Years ago a player wanting to renegotiate with this much time left on their deal would've pissed me off. However, if the owners can cut guys with 3 years remaining, why can't a guy like Brown ask for a renegotiation? The owners have opened themselves up to this.

They need to get rid of the salary cap. I don't fear that like some do. We have all seen when it has been tried to put a superstar team together, and it doesn't work. Look at Washington and the Eagles a few years ago. I just think if the cap went away, you could be more flexible in negotiating.
