BREAKING: DL Stephon Tuitt OUT FOR THE SEASON with Torn Pectoral

Really. So TJ Watt and Devin Bush don't look more promising to you. I think some of you need to go to the stats on this. He has two more interceptions and less than 10 more pass defenses them Edmunds. Tackles are pretty close and he played an extra year. I'm hearing bust grumblings about Edmunds.

If you can't immediately see the difference in the play of Minkah and the play of Edmunds, you need to quit wasting your time looking at stats and more time looking at the actual games.

Fitzpatrick has had a hand in three turnovers since joining the Steelers, and it would have been four had he held on to that INT Sunday night.

Edmunds hasn't done much of anything.

I think Edmunds has had some good moments in coverage to go with some not so good moments. I think we have to be patient with him as a player as he is still developing at the position. As is Fitz for that matter.

Another quick related comment...

Buggs addition to the rotation is going to be a plus. Absolute monster up front at DL or DE.

It's also silly to say that Edmunds is a bust. He's looked more than solid with the addition of Minkah back there. The boys have only been together 4 weeks and some expect more production than you've seen this far. Ridiculous.

The defense is holding teams, on average, to 23 points a game. That number should continue to go down as they gel...

Have a great day,
Bermuda

Alualu played very well in this last game. Very disruptive. And, he's the one that batted the ball up for Bush to intercept. It sucks because Tuitt was finally having what appeared to be a true breakout year. This will probably mean Buggs will get a jersey each week now and maybe see some snaps.

That pectoral thing ended Aaron Smith’s career. Couldn’t stay healthy after he tore it. Of course he was like 32 when it happened. With Heywards, Alualu age and Tuitts health problems might be wise to resign Hargrave and draft a couple of 34 DE’s.

Dont even bother re watching the game. Rewatch the highlights. Every single play that was made was over the linebackers in front of the SAFETIES. Plural. Not singular. There are two of them. And same with the week before that. Nothing goes to the outsides. Every single successful play is in the same area of the field. And sorry but stats over the long haul tell you everything you need to know. Almost two and a half seasons and three interceptions. Not a ball hawk. Sorry. We will see in the long run. But a top ten pick is simply not supposed to be a solid player. They really need at least 6 wins this season and I would feel a hell of a lot better if it was 7.
Oh and to your comment about watching the games. Well that really tips that you are seeing what you want to see. Cause unless you were in LA or Pitt the week before you saw what I saw. They aren't even in the picture. Either of them except when they have tackled a guy who has caught the ball in front of them.

The current strategic deployment of the safeties is basically going to nullify their playmaking and usefulness... they are playing tampa two.... edmunds play near the line is completly useless if he is being used as a centerfielder/ last line of defense... likewise with fitzpatrick... his cover abilities are minimized by cover 2... basically they both are watching deep zone...

On one of these threads i posted a pretty in depth breakdown of cover 2, cover 3, and tampa 2... it doesn’t specifically go over our modified tampa 2, but its the same weaknesses and strengths... that seam up the middle is 100% the weakness... if you religiously fall into that coverage and a qb has any time they will devastate you... you have to disguise better and change things up...

Right now i have no faith that if we play anyone with a halfway decent line, we will hold up...

if you can't tell that the defense has played MUCH, MUCH better since adding Minkah, you may not be watching the same game the rest of us are.
6Lombardis simply stated that we'd traded a first round pick for a first round talent who already has experience at this level ... and is just as young as almost any guy we would have drafted. That's not a far-fetched statement, but some people like to ***** because that's what they're used to doing.

oh. now i get it. you want to have the guys in the screen at all time. all 11 guys swarming at the ball, no matter where it is on the field. with our guys also swatting down passes in their zone, no matter the play, and returning those for pick 6 every time. oh, and sacks. and forced fumbles. and fumble recoveries for TDs. why, hell, maybe even do away with the offense. I mean, you have such realistic standards.

you got to scrap or vasty afjust the nickel without you cant have 2 interior DL you have to change it to 3 DE Watt DT Heyward DT Hargrave OLB Dupree MLB Bush MLB Barron OLB Williams

you have to blitz Williams more not only is a great run Blitzer but he can blast on the cross blitz would be nice to see a overload with him and Dupree as with watt on the other side and Heyward and Tyson/hargrave pushing in the interior and Dupree bulrush it will lead to coverage sacks. ESP vs the 2 upcoming QB's we have upcoming the bum fitz and although brisket is mobile with the speed and pressure I think we can unravel him.

15 forced turnovers this year. If the offense could score more this team isn't 2-4. At the bare minimum we should be 4-2 right now riding this much improved defense.

do you not understand? all 11 guys are not swatting down the ball, and returning every pass for a pick 6.
30 passes per game, 11 guys returning the ball for a pick 6 every time and ... 30 x 11 x 6 ... where's ark?

Probably sitting in his draws creaming himself whilst running math in his head.

That is not what I said. But if you can tell me that one guy is playing great and another sucks balls when their stats are exactly the same except for one great game and you are not at the game. Well then your eyes extend beyond the left and right side of your television set. And if you cannot see the difference between a top ten player like Devin Bush and Minkah Fitzpatrick's career to this point. Well I really do not know what to say.
Here is the bottom line. The Steelers have not been to the top ten without trading since they got Roethlisberger. When they lost Ben the season ended in everyone's mind with the exception of Tomlin and a few of you. In my mind I thought this. Well on the positive side if Rudolph is starter we will know. If he is not, you will know and you have a top ten pick if there is a QB worthy at that spot. Best possible time for that with Ben winding down. If Mason looks like a legit starter or there simply isn't a QB worthy of the pick, then I should be getting a pro bowl to all pro player at another position. I haven't really seen anything other than the 49ers game and certainly with his career numbers that tells me Fitzpatrick is pro bowl much less all pro material. He looks very solid which I would say is in the 15 to 30 range. Plus by the time you draft that ten or better you have two more years control of that players contract.

you're rambling back and forth.
you're also comparing Fitzpatrick to Bush. One plays Safety, the other plays Linebacker.
If you're unable to see that our defense is playing much better since the acquisition of Fitzpatrick, then ... go look at the stats. First 3 games of the season, we were giving up 28 ppg. Last three games, we're giving up 14.3 ppg. We've given up 43 points over our last 3 games. But, you know that since you've poured yourself into the stats to build your argument that our defense is not any better since adding Fitzpatrick.

It sucks to lose Tuitt but looking on the bright side, Alualu is having his best season yet & I'm excited to see Buggs get some action. Dude was a terror in college against top shelf teams.

I do like Buggs, he had to play behind some top talent in Bama. I think he could end up being a gem.

I thought it was biceps for Aaron Smith??? I could be wrong...

He could just play Madden...LOL

I know SD has a bad OL, but Alualu had probably his best game as a Steeler and they've all looked good, I'm thinking Karl Dunbar has been an upgrade at DL coach.

Who said anyone "sucked balls"???

Again, the comment is---"the defense has vastly improved since the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick". Nothing more.

Hines57 shows that we've have 15 forced turnovers in 6 games. How many did we have last year collectively??? I'll answer it for you - we were at -11 after the ENTIRE SEASON. Minkah has one interception and 2 force fumbles.

I will ask, again, name one safety coming out of college, this year, who will give this impact??? The answer is - we DO NOT KNOW because there isn't one. I will eat the crow, if I'm proven wrong next year, but I stand by the decision on improving the team by trading for Minkah.

I've said straight up that 1) Fitz is better than any DB Tombert would have drafted and developed and 2) probably better than anyone Tombert would have drafted in the first round. You can't prove a hypothetical but I'll stand by that, history is on my side. Could potentially be the second-best trade the Steelers ever made. Trading Buddy Ryan's warm six-pack for Jerome Bettis being #1.
