Boycott on again

I wonder if they'll start burning flags soon.. You may as well.
 
Well at least there is one ... Villanueva knows a lot more than his "teammates". I wonder how many NFL players will ever get so offended by this country that they would refuse to carry any of the money they earn because of the symbols of this country which appear on it....none for sure. Perhaps it is best that they did not take field and kneel, that would be a bad sight, but I can't help but feel that the league has become so wishy washy and PC that between head office "leadership" and the demands of the players union, football as it once was, is dead. The owners, union and NFL commissioner have made it clear that they will dictate to us all aspects of the game...well there are a few they can't, viewership, ticket sales, attendance and merchandising. Trump may be wrong on some things, but he knows that when those aspects of the game are hit, the response will be different, it it simple economics, and despite all the wonderful things they say publicly, in their boardrooms and locker rooms they would be feeling the pressure. Free speech...absolutely, but it is not a one way street. fans will have the right to express themselves as well, and there are a lot more of us.

The nfl is in between a social structure it didn't really ask for.
Aside from a few bad apple athletes turning nothing into something. The rest of the league is having to deal with the consequences.
Today and from here on out. Teams are in a critical situation:

You kneel. Feel the wrath of patriotism
You stand. Feel the wrath of the current social structure of the left.
There's no happiness/middle ground per se. Politics are destroying everything at the moment because of the tensions outside.

It's not just football. It's in other leagues and media outlets too.
The Penguins are catching heat for saying they will accept the white house invite.
Their statement was very neutral, angry sheep are just finding more ways to put down anything they can.

I always enjoy life, until someone forces their bullshit political agendas onto the Steelers.

We thankfully have owners now taking part.

They should all STFU and focus in on winning games.

honestly i don't give a damn about the national anthem but it seemed stupid for the whole team to remain in the locker room during it. this whole thing is stupid. they should be focused on beating ****** teams, not the national anthem

My son is a Bangles fan, I hate to say but I'll be routing for them this year for my son. 45 years of watching the Steelers till this year. Tomorrow I'll send a letter to the front office. Steelers did themselves no favors, in avoiding these topics. Out of all 32 teams they had to make the dipshit stance.

So, it's one thing to intentionally injure other NFL players (Burfect), punch a girl in the face and knock her out (Mixon) and commit other numerous offenses (Pacman Jones) just so long as they stand for the National Anthem?

You're right...it's a ******* political minefield everyfuckingday in this country. No matter what stance you take based on your principles or knowledge, somebody or some faction will try to cut your head over it.

I view the team's decision as an apolitical statement. Most of them don't want anything politically charged interfering with football. That's the way I interpret their actions.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Though they may have had them, the outcome is that they now look worse. The team unity thing did not work as AV came out by himself. Then Tomlin expressed his view that he didn't want AV to come out, which can be interpreted that he chose a side when originally he implied he was neutral. The Steelers got themselves in a limelight they didn't want.

A day after this debacle the team is taking the high road and focusing on football and WILL be on the field for the anthem. In my humble opinion, None of these concerns or grips are remotely linked to the flag or the national anthem, but rather in the communities where the real efforts and attention of these financially secure athletes can really effect change. This is where there activism should be focused. Again, my opinion.

The team made a poor decision IMO, but I am one who thinks that mistakes are a part of life. If you make one then I will judge you not on what you did, but rather what you do next. I am happy they are going to be on the field for future games and my judgement will be saved for how they handle the balance of sports and politics going forward.

I was strongly disappointed by the teams and coaches decision to not handle this better. Tomlin did not lead his locker room, but let it lead the organization. He is to be an organizational leader and put all personal decisions in the context of their impact to that organization. Again, it’s my opinion, but he failed miserably in that regard as well. He let the team, who represents the city of Pittsburgh speak on behalf of a fan base that is arguably the largest in the NFL. Their decision ostracized everyone who cheers for that team and connect themselves to the city of Pittsburgh in one facet or another. That is where the greater fail in this action lays.

I just want football without all the other stuff that distracts from it. Isn’t that what sports does for us “average joes”? Take our mind off the BS we experienced or heard throughout the week. Again, my opinions. Give me football and play it the Steeler way that I’ve grown up loving for over 40 years.

I don't see their intentions as good. I see the actions as a "leave us out of your bullshit" reaction to the political storm all around a sport...right or wrong.
