Blow it up

Losing Dupree essentially ended the season. If the defense is intact we could stay in every game. No pass rush means bums light us up. It is what it is.

I was going on the accounting. Okay 21 Million is already spent if you are correct...even if he retires.

you can look on Over The Cap

he has 21M prorated signing bonus left to account for. Whne a player retires, any remaining bonus money like that accelerates to the year he retires. Next year is the last year of his contract so that 21M hits the cap no matter what.

He is projected to make 4M in base Sal next year and 15M roster bonus. That is the 19M savings the team gets - does not matter if it is cut or retirement.

I would take a QB next year if the one I want is available. Whatever happens next years draft needs to be toward rebuild. Not a plug and play guy but a cornerstone for the future. They will likely be the lowest pick of teams out in round one. So what is that around 23-24. Not a great place for a qb but they will have so many needs they should still get a good player.

I gave him the link. He cant read .

No, he didn’t want to because he had himself convinced he was right. You can tell with the condescending “a-okay now” comment. Even just now he said “if you are correct.” He still thinks he might be right.

I think it is a grasping issue. He comprehends very little to what people explain to him.

At the start of the year, looking at the potential UFAs it seemed like the Steelers would be in a lot of trouble. Now, I'm not sure how many they will (or should) even make an offer to.

The offensive line needs rebuilt. I'm fine letting Feiler and Villanueva walk.

The once promising draft class of Watt, JuJu, Conner, Sutton still has a lot of talent, but not guys they can't get by without. I love JuJu, but he's clearly a complementary piece and is best served with a good No. 1 opposite of him. Again, Conner is a guy you want to see as a long-term piece, but with so many injuries it's hard to justify keeping him.

Alualu would be a nice keep on a short term and low cost. I'd also make a strong play to keep Sutton and Hilton. In fact, I'd consider cutting Haden to keep the two young guys. Haden feels like he's been a life-long Steeler, but at some point his play is going to fall off. I'd rather not lose two young players to keep an aging veteran. Hopefully they can find room to keep all four CBs as both Haden and Nelson are UFAs after 2021.

I want to live in fantasyland where the Steelers can find a way to keep Dupree.

The biggest question is Ben. As I said in the other thread, my head is telling me he is done after this season. If he is, they need to either acquire a competent QB or just go into the season with the idea of tanking with Mason. The other option is to get aggressive and move up to get one of the falling QBs.

We need to lock in Watt, Minkah, Bush, Claypool and rebuild around the Defense. Draft a Big back and bring in a serviceable vet for a few years while we rebuild and wait for the right young QB.

Yinz watching the BYU bowl game? I would trade the farm for this QB. Turn this game on and tell me you don’t see the same thing

I’m really high on Wilson too. I fear by the time the draft rolls around, he’ll be a top 5-10 pick.

I also really like how bowl games start right after the regular college football season ends this year. Should be a permanent change. Screw the month long layoff ****!

Wilson is already arguably the No. 2 QB in this draft. His stock is sky high and Justin Fields seems to be dropping. Trey Lance will be key because he's got all of the physical tools but has some accuracy concerns and only played one game this year.

Jones and Trask are the interesting ones. They're all over the place on draft boards.

You don't speak for me or know what think. If that is the rule, so be it. Okay he gets 21 million even it he retires. I don't still think I might be right. Moving on, the focus was on the off season and the draft. The Cap is a huge issue, I agree there.

Then read the link provided for you above and you'll learn that indeed you are wrong. Again.

No dumb dick. We dont.

What a big man you are. You didn't know this, the person who wrote the article did. Ir appears the Steelers CAN go after his final year of the signing bonus so more that 19 million can be saved. I'm not a capologist.

You remain a bleeding vag.

Roethlisberger Retires – Should Roethlisberger decide to retire after the 2020 season, odds are good such a decision would be made prior to his $15 million roster bonus being due on the third day of the new league year in March. If Roethlisberger were to retire before his roster bonus is due, the Steelers would save $19 million in 2021 salary cap space and be on the hook for $22.25 million in dead money next season. While the Steelers could probably go after Roethlisberger’s final year of signing bonus proration money being as he didn’t play out his contract, it is very, very doubtful they would do so out of respect for his long career in Pittsburgh.

Have you ever known the Steelers to go after the prorated portion of a signing bonus when they have effectively forced a player to retire? Ever? NO. And you know it wouldn't happen with Ben. So, the they are only REALISTICALLY going to save the $19 Million if he retires or they show him the door. Try to go after the rest and see how many players are willing to extend contracts, come to Pittsburgh as free agents, etc. smh

Okay he gets 21 million even it he retires

He doesn't get 21M if even if he retires. He was ALREADY PAID the 21M and more when he signed his last extension. the signing bonus is prorated across the term of the deal. He got paid that money the day he inked the deal but the team spreads the "hit" across multiple years. The 21M is the last bit of showing that money on the books. That is what I said when I said "accounting".

If Ben wants to come back, he's coming back. They won't cut him. They may not resign him, but the Rooneys would never cut him. Whats the point any ways? The oline sucks and it's not going to be fixed in one off-season, there are no full time NFL caliber backs on this team, or TE.
It's all up to Ben.

actually, this is an interesting scenario. I did a little digging and it seems there is the "Barry Sanders Rule" that protects teams from a guy signing a deal, getting a bonus for it, then retiring. What I gather from the articles I just read are that if the Steelers chose to go this route and recoup the 21, they would have to go to arbitration. What I gather is the Steelers would likely lose given the time he has played. I don't understand the legalities. I did not search for a copy of the CBA nor am I an attorney. Perhaps one of the attorneys around here could add some commentary. I also suspect there are other terms in Ben's contract that supersede the CBA. No way to know.

Dumb Dick, anyone with half a brain would look up this info to support his/her argument. In 10 seconds i found this information. Go lick the windows that slash has you pegged for. The steelers wont go after his signing bonus. If you believe that , You may as well go for the helment and a harness and an ashtray for your mum.

I am with coach... I really like trask but he needs an oline... he isnt mobile at all... but he is fine in the pocket... I have no doubts about his ability to read the defenses, and his arm is great.... he was expected to fall to the second due to his lack of running, which seems silly to me... there are probably going to be five or six first round worthy guys and there wont be five or six guys taking qbs high this year... so someone will fall low... Im just worried the Pats will snag whomever we want... though it really helps that the Jets wont go QB now...

I mean in as much as of the qbs I like trask falling to us.... I think Ben will be back for a couple more seasons actually....

meh it doesnt really hold up well when guys are quitting with a season left... the lions negotiated a deal with calvin johnson to recoup 10% of the bonus rather than try to fight a potentially tricky legal battle with him... the colts didnt even do that with luck... there is a zero percent chance the steelers try to get anything from ben... they never have done that in the past....
