Blow it up

I have to disagree, losing him is a reason we give up more points. When Shazier went out, the defense clearly took a turn for the worst. Shazier got the defense off the field by making big plays and limiting them. He " won " some game with key turnovers, something this defense can't get.

We have plenty of ILB's can blitz. Williams, Bostic, etc... A sack isn't worth an interception. Heck I'd take 2 PD's over a sack in most cases as its two downs lost vs. one.

We agree on the CB's. We need better and IMO to replace Davis.

Which games did he "win". I'd like to see those. Also in 2016 the team was 11-5. Shazier only started 12 games and played in 13 they were 9-4 with him. In 2015 the steelers go 10-6. With him starting they go 7-5. Last year they are 13-3 and with Shazier they are 10-2. With one of those wins against the bungles in the game he gets hurt in. He played less than 5 minutes in that game before the horrible injury.

So please don't tell me about how great he is and how he is so important they can't win without him. The numbers say differently.

I recall Shazier coming up with some big interceptions.

Two in the playoffs. Read below:

Did you see what happened to the defense once he was out last year? Vader, your mistaken. Shazier was a huge loss magnified because the next man is a part time player.

**** do you even read what you post? That article said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about Shazier winning two playoff games. It talks about how he got an int against the rats when the Steelers were leading by 10 ******* points with 11 minutes to go. He hardly won that game for them.

You are mistaken and can't answer my previous post with facts. Just made up **** from your head and an article that doesn't say what you said it said.

Also Please tell me why the Steelers have a better record when he is out than they do when he is on the field? You can't. You just make up ****. So please just stop.

This team is in dire need of high draft picks. They can get to the playoffs but we know something always goes wrong. Need high picks to get over the top. Can’t build through the draft anymore in today’s nfl. League is passing the Rooney’s by.

Yeah, and while you’re at it - take out a tape recorder and record yourself so you can hear how stupid you sound

I’m telling y’all. Blow it up. Cut people now and lose out to draft higher.

Not here to say I told you so but.………

And the odds of the FO "blowing it up" is?

Whatever ever they were at 4:00PM Eastern Standard Time, they likelihood of it happening increased.

Blow it up.

TOMLIN, and Butler O-U-T. Porter can help them pack and hitch a ride out of town.

Colbert can stay.

Out = Tomlin, Butler, Porter, Danny Smith, Bradley, Jerry O.

Retained and considered for HC = Munchack. Keep Fitchner too.

Colbert, I don’t care one way or the other. Still think Cowher was the brains behind the players drafted and not Colbert.

Tomlin isn't going anywhere so you should come up with realistic scenarios.

Still ok with Fitch become the HC and calling the plays and bringing in a new DC.

Fire Tomlin, Fire Danny Smith, Fire Butler.

**** I’d fire the person in charge of cleats too.

This team is consistently out coached in all facets of the game.

The Steelers HAVE to do better in the first round.

Here's how I'd rank the first-round picks under Tomlin and Colbert.

1. DeCastro-Arguably the best guard of this generation.
2. Pouncey-Even though PFF hates him, very good center and team leader.
3. Shazier-Special playmaker.
4. Heyward-Good to very good every year and defensive leader.
5. Timmons-Key piece of the defense for nearly a decade.
6. Watt-The closest thing we have to a playmaker on defense. Good all-around defender.
7. Mendenhall-Two seasons over 1,000 yards. Disappointing overall.
8. Dupree-After being invisible last year, making some plays this year. Still not enough.
9. Hood-Not a bust, but miscast into the defense. Bad pick.
10. Burns-Got worse since his rookie year. Close to a bust.
11. Jones-Bust.

Ungraded: Edmunds

Edmunds is to be determined, but that's only six guys in 12 years that have been a foundation for the roster. Compare that to the previous 12 years, which help build a championship team:

2006-Holmes-Super Bowl MVP
2005-Miller-Greatest TE in team history.
2004-Roethlisberger-Hall of Fame quarterback.
2003-Polamalu-Hall of Fame Safety
2002-Simmons-Ok player, health got the best of him.
2001-Hampton-Centerpiece for the dominating defense of the 2000s.
2000-Burress-Good receiver who had success after he left as well.
Donahoe Years
1999-Edwards-Decent rookie year and then bust.
1998-Faneca-Future Hall of Famer.
1997-Scott-Better than Burns.

CharlesDavenport - Massive props for posting classic John Candy and (Pittsburgh's own) Joe Flaherty. I loved that show.

I'll say this about Tomlin: I've avoided being a critic, but the thought of BR ending his career with a different coach is intriguing. Might give him - and the team - a boost.

Near the end of Cowher's tenure, I'd venture that many, if not most, Steeler fans were ready to see him mov on.

I think Tomlin's now at that point.

Yes, they are. Every time the defense does something wrong it's "Well if Shazier were in there that wouldn't happen." It's bullshit. Shazier never started more than 12 games.. NEVER. He also struggled covering TEs. I forget the game but one game a TE ate him alive and most on here bitched for weeks about it. They didn't have a pulse because of Shazier.... he isn't NFL Jesus.

This defence was a house of cards for a few years. Shazier being injured just happened to trigger the collapse.

Ug. This game was tough. Win, you think you are SB contenders. Lose out of playoffs. Pretty much sums up the roller coaster year.

No need to blow it up IMO.
We need talent at CB, ILB and OLB.
The Steelers have cap space and will more than likely pick 20 in the draft.
Will Colbert be aggressive like every other team in the NFL on occasion (some more than others)?
There is NO reason we shouldn't be able to fill CB or ILB in FA with an above average starter...NO reason.
In the draft, take which ever position you didn't get in FA and be AGGRESSIVE about getting an IMPACT guy.
If you have to trade up, DO IT.
We aren't far off. The offense is pretty much set with the exception of LG.

I just hope we don't start handing out contracts to guys that will prevent us from signing a guy that can truly help.

We desperately need a reliable FS too. Sean Davis gives up way too many big plays

I wasn’t ready for Cowher to go. He just won a SB the year prior. Cowher May have 5 SBs if he would have stayed on and coached through out Ben’s career... wasted years.

Flaherty used to work in Burgh references - I think he was a detective in this skit where he was checking the guy's wallet - "Fox Chapel Hill Road? Must be loaded."
