BJ Finney to the Seahawks

I don't think that is accurate. As they signed Watt because of cleared cap space...

They had to cut quite a few players to keep above water. Over the cap is pretty accurate. We see what they say at the end of the week.

The Steelers put 2nd round tenders on Feiler and Hilton. NFL teams know we can't match higher offers. Losing either man would hurt.

FInney was a good 6th man who could start and hold his own for a few games. Okay, with Foster out, and Finney out, we have little depth. Moving Fieler to guard is risky as I'm not sure if Chucks can hold down the Right Tackle spot. There was an open competition for RT last camp between Fieler and Chucks and it wasn't close. I'd rather keep Feiler where he is and pick a guard in rounds 2-4.

I have no issue with going guard early however, we have needs at TE and RB behind those starters and need to look at NT as well. There will be some 2nd or 3rd tier vets brought in when more cuts are made and prices go down some.

Depth at those positions is our biggest question mark, besides the right elbow of you know who.

I liked him. I liked Finney a lot.

Ok trying to understand why they couldn't outbid the Seahawks they might have the following line of thinking:

- do we have a starting LG in the roster? Is it Finley or Finney? If the latter is seen as a better option then the former will stay only as a backup.

- If Finley starts at LG is because we see Chuck and Banner ready to compete for the starting RT spot.

- Finney is a great backup worth 3 to 3,5M as he can spot duty play two positions in the Oline but he isn't a true C so it lowers a bit his value.

- Finney won't be our starting LG or C this season, can we spend 4M on a backup Oline player? Probably not.

- So we get outbid for our backup interior Oline man, how is our depth looking? Villanueva, Finley, Pouncey, DeCastro have a spot secured and are proven starters, some are even pro bowl material. Then you have Chuck and Banner fighting for the RT spot, the loser is our swing tackle, Gray is much like Banner, a big, slow RT that could move to G and I think is being groomed for that. Only Chuck could backup LT as Banner is too slow. At C we have Zero depth

- going to the draft if we pick a high profile C like Ruiz then that backup spot is secured plus he could also help at G, depth is much better now. Of course ideally you still pick a G later on (4th/6th round) if there's a good one available, moving Feiler back to RT and the depth is complete once again.

- Getting an OT early in the draft doesn't seem like the way to go, we already have 4 players for RT, 2 for LT.

- If one of the top C isn't available at 2.49 then a top G would be an immediate starter at LG, moving Finley to RT, etc, etc as already said above. The C spot would be the only shallow spot in the Oline.

So I kind of understand why Finney couldn't be kept for that price, still they better secure a top C or G with the first pick (2.49) or we will be really screwed when injuries hit the team. This probably is the plan, they are sold on going interior Oline from the get go as they see a lot of value probably available there, Biadasz, Ruiz, Cush'n'berries, Hennesy. All cool names by the way

The guy is a backup, you don't waste that kind of money on a backup.

Has to be how they viewed him. Other wise they would have matched...........

Our online play was horrendous last year. I hope the go online in the 2nd and even the 3rd or 4th. Gotta build the trenches, particularly for the ground game. I want nasty *** road graders who love to destroy and pound their guy into the ground!

Big Al has not been playing well for a while. Last year teams stacked three **** out of the box because we couldn't throw. The line just got overwhelmed. We definitely need help there though. Finneys value was his flexibility i just hope they know what they are doing

We have $10.8M in cap space after restructures, tenders, franchise tagging Bud and signing Watt. The sky is clearly falling. And, when was the last time they tendered someone with a first round tender rather than resigning them long term? Second round tender is their norm. But, don't let that stop the narrative.

I liked finney. He was serviceable. And he wanted to be here.

This move has pretty much convinced me they are moving Feiler to LG, and will let Banner and okorafor compete for Right Tackle. I also think they will draft an Offensive lineman, Tackle if a good one is available. Otherwise a guard.

For whatever reason, Villanueva's play fell last year also. Going into year 3 with Chuks, I'm hoping the plan is for him to challenge at both tackle spots.

The sad thing is we had a cheap replacement for Foster who is now a Bengal and will be a very good player for them. We cut him to keep some bum and exposed h to the waiver wire. Athletic huge guards are not found every day and the Bengals scooped him up.

Also the reason for round tendering vs 2nd round tendering is their worth. Hilton is worth a 2nd, since he's a subpackage starter. Feiler is a starting LT. We get a 2nd if he leaves too. There is a lot of depth at LT so if Feiler is "stolen" for a 2nd rounder, the Steelers still have a starter in waiting.

Somebody better let Big Al know ;)
