Bills War Room

Exactly right. Bush is Shazier II. He and the organization thought that their plan was working until Shazier got hurt. Don't expect those 2 DL sets to stop anytime soon. If everything goes as planned 1 DL sets aren't far behind!!!

Still for the LIFE of me, how can anyone think the 2DL is or has ever been effective at stopping anything. I'd have to stretch hard to even Remeber a single time they got off the field when in that 2DL set, unless a TD was scored by the opponents. The NFL hasn't gotten that far away from the run to abandon all thought of defending it.

I'd like to see a break down of plays in the season where we were in the 3/4 or 4/3 and then compare it to the 2DL set. In terms of how many yards either gave up and into the game did we get lead with which one and which one gave up the points/yards to get opponents back into the game.

The point I'm making is it doesn't work and which ******* is to blind to see that?????????? Our ELITE coach or the DC who's hands are tied by the ELITE coach??????? Inquiring minds want to know........................

I thought Tomlin was the DC now?

I believe that 2 DL set came in from Tomlin while LeBeau was still here. I don't remember it being ran before Tomlin.

They do get off the field pretty quick. Usually it just takes one good run to score on it so they can't be too tired out. I'd love to see a breakdown of the 2 DL sets against the 3 DL sets. If you find it let me know.

Thanks for the artickle Corpus and it is a good read.

That was a good read. I enjoyed that.

What are the Steelers running now?

When a team is in "base" the front 7 is made up of DL and LB, either 3-4 or 4-3. When they go nickel, it means sitting one of those guys for an extra DB. The question shouldn't be about formation, it should be about getting your best players on the field. In other words, you should sit your weakest player vs passing situations.

For the steelers, it used to make sense that the guy to sit would be their run stuffing NT because he's not much of a pass rusher, and it allows you to keep all your athletic LBs on the field and still add that extra DB.

The problem with that has been that the LB staying on the field has not been getting the job done. Jarvis Jones was terrible. Bud Dupree has been pretty mediocre.

This says it all in the article
Without access to the kind of elite pass-rushers that can attack the edge and overcome an offense's best efforts at pass protection, the 2-4-5 is not a superior nickel package. It can also struggle against the run if defensive tackles aren't sturdy or the linebackers are deficient. However, it is the simplest and best way to allow big, fast, and powerful athletes to impact the game and attack the quarterback.

The Steelers LBs have been subpar. They haven't had a legit pair of outside pass rushers since Harrison and Woodley. And then when Shazier got hurt, the ILBs fell apart too.
