Billacheat denied 1st attempt @HOF by voters.

In the original “spy-gate”, as part of the discipline……. Billicheat was to be banned for life if he ever got caught cheating again.

Obviously that wasn’t enforced multitude of times…………

The spy-gate was the start of the end of football as we knew it. If any one is to be blamed for the fall of football, you could name the cheatriots franchise. Not just on one occasion, and add in the preferred treatment / integrity of the game / blatant home-field cheating / amongst many other aspects of cheating and let go by the Rog.

Tainted is no way to go through life, there are many of us that remember this and will remind of it.

Multiple sources told ESPN that Spygate and Deflategate, the twin cheating scandals during the Patriots' championship run, came up in deliberations among voters. A voter who spoke on condition of anonymity said that Polian, an ardent Kraft supporter and former general manager of the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts -- a chief Patriots rival during their dynasty -- told some voters he believed Belichick should "wait a year" before induction as penance for Spygate, the 2007 cheating scandal that cost the team a first-round draft pick. Commissioner Roger Goodell also fined the Patriots $500,000 and fined Belichick $250,000.

"The only explanation [for the outcome] was the cheating stuff," a veteran Hall voter told ESPN on Tuesday. "It really bothered some of the guys."

Penance of one year....??? He should never be allowed in.

Damning indictment and acknowledgment of repeated funny business taking place in NE while on his watch. I always questioned the time the Steelers communications just randomly went out in that one game. They were saying the headsets were filled with Patriots radio broadcast. Patriots communications were never disabled while the Steelers communications were down and somehow the NFL investigation revealed no wrongdoing.

"Oh come on, they were only doing what every other team does, they just got caught"-Every NE homer.
There is at least some truth to that I think, although I doubt anyone had the complex apparatus New England had. That **** was so high level the NFL didn't let anyone see any of it. It was that bad. That said, I would find it incredibly difficult to believe that absolutely no one else has ever tried to gain an edge through unsavory means. It's not to excuse what they did, I just can't believe they are the only ones ever.

I mean the Chiefs have been in 5 of the last 7 Super Bowls (including this year) and not a soul thinks they cheated. Are they clean, or did they just not get caught?

I haven't heard players come out saying, they knew what we were doing every time we audibled, Mahomes made alot of that happen by keeping plays alive and making crazy plays. Brady and NE seemed to know where to go with the ball every single play.
The 2004 AFCCG, we ran a play that we never ran before, a play they installed that week, and NE still jumped it, the Harrison return 6. Then you hear about them having guys dressing up as NFL workers, stadium workers, etc.

In the Pro Football Hall of Fame (NFL), coaches do not have to wait 5 years anymore. As of August 2024, the waiting period was reduced from five years to one year out of the game.
Interesting.
So coach Tomlin can sit out a year, get elected to the Hall of Fame, and then return to coach as a Hall of Fame football coach?

BB should never be in the hall. It's super lame to celebrate cheating. He not only cheated to have his team win, he cheated others out of their year. A rookie named Roethisburger comes to mind. Is there a hall of infamy?

He's scum, and I will never be OK with him there. But, no one cares what I think.

Penance for one year?!?!
That’s it?!?
I wish that guy was my priest!

PeterKing will come out of retirement to express his outrage and then drop to his knees.

I brought this up as an outcome years ago on this board. Some posters thought I was insane, but when you look at who the voters are, where they are from, and the voting process, only a hand full of no votes can stall an induction, like 5.

I wished we had Kashi way back then. Entirely predictable when you factor in where the votes were coming from. All the cities that got boned by Spygate/Deflate gate and were lectured and ignored at that time by the national media, are now showing off their middle finger.

When Ben retired the same year as Tom Brady, Peter King made the completely unnecessary point to say that 2 time Super Bowl winning QB Ben Rothelisberger is not necessarily a first ballot Hall Of Famer.

Why **** on Ben when he is walking away PK?

Because Peter King knew that if Big Ben and Tom Brady were on the Induction stage together for a HOF Ceremony you would not hear a word of Brady's speech as it would be drowned out by the boos of the city of Pittsburgh that would show up in Canton for Ben. Historical attendance data and logic proves this.

Pittsburgh showing off its middle finger. The NFL/Goodell getting their overdue comeuppance for sweeping it under the rug instead of addressing it.

Who says it is only for one year.......what if another shoe drops in the interim?

The NFL learned yesterday, this **** ain't over.

There is a lot of outrage. They’re demanding the votes get released and calling the HOF a sham. Again, baseball would’ve shunned BB for a LONG time and no one would question it.

This is a huge surprise to me. If you don't give much weight to the cheating as the league did, then he is by far a 1st ballot HOFer. Most consider him the best coach to ever do it. Apparently, the voters are making him wait for a year or two before he gets in. I'm surprised they had the balls not to vote him in.

Expect a push by the national media to change the HOF voting rules for the cheating scumbags that they never had the courage to confront.

They might have lost their access, their comfy hotel rooms and press box seats.........and PK's favorite, the GameDay buffet.

Does this mean Tommy boy won't get in as a first ballot pick. never mind I know the answer to that.

That would be so ghhreat for that to happen, except get him banned.

the fair weather fans are convinced he is the best ever, take the cheat out and what do you have left//

Until someone can expose the “HONEST ABE” percentage and the cheating bast-*** presents he, then I could respect proportionately that balance.

Many don’t understand how much difference it makes with a deflators football, in both catching and not fumbling. How many games may have ended differently had there been a turn-over?

He will have his own wing .......... dedicated to never a losing season status

movie rolls will flood in ........possibly cast in Expendables 19 ...... where he will play Cool Shades Tool ...replacing Mickey Dork Rourke

He gets in next time but I love the statement as it makes millions either remember who he really is or if they were too young, do research to see that it was all a phony dynasty.

Nope, but it does mean that if they wait a year, Belichick goes in next year with Ben. That is also unacceptable.

I'd wager those punks bugged the hell out of that stadium and around the field. You only need audio to match with the regular game film. ?Magic half time adjustments my ***.
Have a defense always in the right place at the right time. And that's with drafting damn near last for over a decade.

They make it all about Brady, but that defense made just as much impact if not more.

I also blame our coaches for not changing anything and adapting to someone who knows everything you're going to do. Nope, they just let themselves be made fools of.
Not to mention horrible drafts...........His drafts were almost laughable.

Add in the cheatriots had defensive line men mic'ed up as well.

The league with "parity" set up mainly through the salary cap in 92 or 93 was designed to not allow a 70s Steelers or an 80s 49ers to happen again. The changing of the rules to benefit offenses more came to play right during Brady/Bellichicks run. Combine that with the cheating and they did what was not supposed to happen. The only other team who has pulled off something close is the Chiefs and the Chiefs run is done, but they have Mahomes...Brady was not ever Mahomes. The Pats* won as a team...a team of cheaters.

When they could they benefited their offense by jamming headsets and deflating balls. At other times their defense saved them by having the play calls before the play was run. As you said it was a high level operation.

Teams like the Steelers were at a complete disadvantage as their defenses were predicated on stopping the run and being brutal to offenses. Now you have rules to benefit your offense and stifling hard hitting defenses while you stop communications on your opponent defense as you march down the field with a scripted offense. NFL headsets were not sending encrypted communications till 2009 if you can believe that.

1994: The NFL re-emphasized the 5-yard rule on jamming receivers and banned defensive backs from pushing receivers out of bounds while running routes. This further protected receivers and encouraged more downfield passing.

2004: The illegal cut block rule was changed—cutting a receiver below the waist became a 15-yard penalty instead of 5, discouraging dangerous blocks and protecting receivers running routes over the middle.

2007: The defenseless player rule was expanded to include receivers attempting to catch a pass. Any contact to the head or neck during a catch attempt is now a 15-yard penalty, enhancing protection for receivers in vulnerable moments.

2009: The "Brady rule" was clarified—low hits on quarterbacks, even when being tackled, became illegal if avoidable. This was a direct response to a hit that caused Tom Brady’s ACL tear and aimed to protect QBs during and after passing plays.

2010s–Present: Ongoing emphasis on illegal contact, pass interference, and defenseless player rules has continued to open up the field, reduce physical intimidation, and increase offensive production. Combined with the 2025 season’s permanent dynamic kickoff and touchbacks moving to the 35-yard line, offenses now benefit from better field position and reduced risk on returns.
