Biggest Surprise this season thus far.

My biggest surprise is Artie Burns. I thought the game was going to be too big for him as he (for a track guy) didn't blow up the combine. And his stats in college seemed to come against lower competition and not vs the elite college teams. I like him in the slot this season and next year I feel if he continues to develop the way he has so far he should push hard for a starting spot. Who knows maybe Golson stays healthy next year and becomes the stud slot guy we wanted to draft and we have a plethora of CB's to choose from with Cockrell and Gay.

yes, the rookies positevely contributing should be the biggest surprise. Cockrell and Jesse had shown enough last season to expect a leap on their play level, same goes for Vince Williams.

Jessie James yes.

Coates is on the border of being a threat but still has mental mistakes. Grimble is another surprise. So just like the majority of this thread. The TE position is doing fine

I agree

More importantly - they SCORE TD's!

As long as Ben gets his 30+ points a game the bit players on defense only have to contribute a little to get off the field for this to work.

I can't say I was surprised by James, I thought he'd do great. Cockrell was kinda quiet last year but came on strong at a position where the team seems to have a hard time finding decent players

Coates is running routes other than just going deep. He is at about the same point Bryant was at this point in his career. People seem to forget Bryant drops a lot of balls too. I'd put him slightly ahead of Coates at this point. If it came down to keeping one of the 2, I keep Coates because he isn't at risk of being ****-canned for another full year plus for his weed addiction.

Yep! Heath was Ben's checkdown and Ben will hit his TE's often. Both James and Grimble are capable of not just moving the chains, but scoring TD's. This team does need 30+ points in today's nfl. James and Grimble will contribute a lot to that strategy

Shazier and Golson both being on the injury report again this year...

If Green ever sees the field, I ease him in at WR. Kinda like Shannon Sharpe type role.

Brown, Coates, Green, James, Bell. Move them around, **** with the D's mind

I believe the guys we have at tight end are good enough. I suspect Green will not see the field from anywhere but the sidelines during a game. The outlaw is doing very well and getting better quickly. If he keeps up at this pace he may become the guy people say is as good as Heath. Notice I said he has a ways to go and may become that guy not that he is there yet. The Kid is big and seems to be focused on getting better.

As to Green I really suspect his headaches are a long term concussion issue and that might have career ending implications for him. We will not be seeing his medical reports but we are into week six and he is still on the PUP list. This guy might not be a roster ready player again.

Like Ike, **** isn't the best at catching. I thought he did a good job on Marshall. That td catch by Marshall went through ****'s hands. The kid is doing decent

So what yinz saying is **** has a hard time holding onto balls.

You do realize that players have to sit for 6 weeks before they can return to practice, right? That's what happens when you are placed on the PUP. FYI, he returned to working out with full weights last week.

Since he has just been medically cleared to work out with full weights, it lends more credence that he had an ankle setback as opposed to headaches.

With the return of Nix soon David Johnson will see less playing time. Nix can do everything Johnson does plus he is one our best special teams player. Green will play if healthy. He is a different type of TE them James and Grimble. He will give us a different dimension. Someone who will have to be accounted for. I understand the frustration but not the he can sit when healthy stuff.

I too am excited for Green's return. Jesse James has been a very pleasant development, but speed isn't coachable. James won't be left out but will be competing for his targets, just as everyone else on the field.

Salute the nation

I suggest he may be more open because the other guys will draw even more attention

Biggest surprise? I'd say the 5 - 0 Vikings.

Overcame a ****-ton of injuries and haven''t missed a beat. And that is against some of the better teams.

Up against the cap now, so they can't afford much more of that bug.

Tight End Position Getting It Done In The End Zone

BY MATTHEW MARCZI OCTOBER 12, 2016 AT 09:00 AM
The Pittsburgh Steelers may not have their ideal circumstances surrounding the tight end position right now, but it could certainly be a lot worse than it has shown itself to be, whether we are talking about blocking or receiving. Ladarius Green will certainly be an asset once he gets here, but one thing cannot be denied, and that is that through the first four weeks, the tight end position has produced in the end zone.

The Steelers have thrown 15 touchdown passes over the course of the first five games, and four of those passes have gone to the tight ends. Second-year tight end, and current starter, Jesse James added his third touchdown of the season on Sunday against the Jets, and first-year tight end Xavier Grimble added one of his own during the second game of the season.

James is certainly not pumping out the yardage—in fact, he is averaging a pretty pitiful 7.1 yards per reception—but he has a touchdown in each of the las three games in which the team has actually scored a touchdown.

His six receptions for 43 yards on Sunday represented career highs in both categories. He previously caught five passes for 31 yards in the season opener, but was limited to two or three receptions for under 30 yards—in two cases under 20 yards—in the three games in between.

But what he has done this year as a receiver that has been very impressive, and certainly commendable, is that he has done an excellent job of holding on to the football after contact. He has made some tough catches over the course of the first five games that were made tough due to the fact that he simply had to try to maintain control of the ball after taking a big hit.

And Grimble has been contributing as well. He has five receptions thus far on the season for 58 yards, including two receptions for 13 yards—one of them for 11 yards—against the Jets. He made a very impressive catch and dove for the score from five yards out to complete a 20-yard play against the Bengals in the second week of the season.

Even David Johnson has had a couple of receptions, including a 24-yard catch and run effort last week against the Chiefs. Johnson has been the team’s best and most consistent blocker, but all three have had their moments in that regard, though James’ sheer snap count is probably doing him no favors.

Green reportedly looked pretty decent warming up for the game on Sunday, but he is still at least one more game away from even being able to return. When he does get on the field, at least after he gets himself up and running, he will add a new dynamic to this offense. But in the meantime, those who have been filling the void have been solid in their contributions, and excellent in the end zone.

No surprises. The standard is the standard. The team is playing with high quality above the neck capabilities. I'm still disappointed in our failed attempt to complete the task at hand in Philly. The record is suffering a contusion of lose column. On to the all-pro, full of 1st round talent and hall of fame roster Miami Dolphins.

Beautiful cool shades post
